Definitions

  • the present invention relates to an optical transmission system, a wavelength dispersion compensation method, a first optical communication device, and a second optical communication device.
  • Waveform distortion occurs due to the wavelength dispersion effect of the optical fiber.
  • Wavelength dispersion is a phenomenon in which the propagation velocity in an optical fiber differs depending on the wavelength, and the longer the optical fiber, the greater this effect.
  • Waveform distortion due to wavelength dispersion can be compensated by performing signal processing based on information on the amount of wavelength dispersion received by the signal (see, for example, Non-Patent Document 1).
  • a dedicated measuring device is used to measure the wavelength dispersion amount of an optical transmission line composed of an optical fiber, and such a dedicated measuring device can measure the wavelength dispersion amount of any wavelength. Although it is versatile, it is expensive. On the other hand, the transmission rate of the main signal of the optical communication device used in actual operation and the center wavelength of the optical signal of the main signal are specified in advance. Therefore, it suffices if the amount of wavelength dispersion can be measured within the range of the spread of the spectrum of the optical signal generated from the main signal, and there is a demand for a means for such measurement at low cost.

  • the maintenance operation cost required for installation and the like can be suppressed, and the wavelength dispersion amount can be measured without temporarily stopping the operation of the communication service.
  • the transmission rate when transmitting the main signal is generally a high transmission rate, and since the frequency spectrum of the optical signal generated from the main signal is greatly widened, it is easily affected by waveform distortion due to the wavelength dispersion effect of the optical fiber. Therefore, even if the optical signal of the main signal is transmitted without performing wavelength dispersion compensation, synchronization cannot be established on the receiving side, and there is a problem that the wavelength dispersion amount cannot be measured using the main signal.

Description

Jin Wang and J. M. Kahn, "Performance of Electrical Equalizers in Optically Amplified OOK and DPSK Systems", IEEE Photonics Technology Letters, May 2004, Vol.16, No.5, pp.1397-1399, doi: 10.1109/LPT.2004.826222

 D=|τ1-τ2|/|λ1-λ2|・・・(2)
