Definitions
- the invention relates to a device for determining the hydrogen concentration of an exhaust gas in an exhaust pipe of a fuel cell system, having the features of the preamble of patent claim 1.
- the invention relates to a fuel cell system with the features of the preamble of patent claim 9.
- Hydrogen-based fuel cells are considered to be the mobility concept of the future because they only emit water as exhaust gas and enable fast refueling times. Fuel cells are usually assembled into a fuel cell stack. The fuel cell stacks need oxygen, mostly obtained from the surrounding air, and fuel, mostly hydrogen, for the chemical reaction.
- nitrogen reaches the cathode side of the fuel cell stack via the air mass flow which is supplied to the fuel cell stack via the air path. Part of this nitrogen diffuses across the membrane of the fuel cell stack to the anode side and displaces the hydrogen on the anode side, so that the normal reactions are inhibited.
- a valve with a flushing line can be used to flush the anode side or from the circulation line to the exhaust gas line of the fuel cell in order to conduct the anode gas with a high proportion of nitrogen into the environment via the exhaust gas line.
- a hydrogen sensor is arranged in the exhaust line.
- the device according to the invention for determining the hydrogen concentration of an exhaust gas in an exhaust pipe of a fuel cell system and the fuel cell system with the features according to the independent claims have the advantage that the hydrogen content in the exhaust pipe can be determined with greater accuracy. This is important so that measures can be taken if necessary to avoid an excessive concentration of hydrogen and thus an explosive mixture.
- the mixing element according to the invention mixes a fluid which flows through the inflow opening by changing the flow conditions, so that different components within the exhaust gas have a homogeneous distribution.
- the sensor will detect too low or too high a concentration of hydrogen in the exhaust gas, since the purge gas has not been distributed evenly in the exhaust gas line and possibly too low or too high a concentration locally at the position of the sensor of hydrogen, which does not correspond to the mean concentration value.
- the devices according to the invention result in advantages with regard to installation space, since a shorter line section is required until the hydrogen and the other exhaust gases are evenly mixed in the exhaust line. Consequently, the exhaust pipe can be made shorter.
- the device has a connection for a purge line, with a purge gas from the purge line being fed into the pipe section via the connection.
- a defined inflow point for the purge gas allows the shape and position of the mixing element to be selected so that the purge gas from the purge gas line and the exhaust gas from the exhaust line are mixed as homogeneously as possible at the sensor.
- connection for the purge line is arranged between the inflow opening and the mixing element.
- the inflow opening it is also possible for the inflow opening to be placed at the height of the mixing element, so that the flow behavior of the exhaust gas from the exhaust gas line has already changed when the purge gas enters.
- An advantageous structure for a mixing element can be formed by a spiral structure, a lattice structure or a cascade of baffles.
- a particular advantage results if the purge gas does not flow into the pipe section at a single point via the connection, but rather at several points of introduction, since in this way an initial distribution of the purge gas is already ensured.
- a radial distribution of the points of introduction over an outer wall of the pipe section is advantageous here.
- the points of introduction are on the mixing element are arranged so that purge gas flows in the axial and / or radial direction in the pipe section.
- the built-in element makes it possible to fasten the sensor to an outer wall of the pipe section or to the built-in element, as required.

Titel
