Definitions
- the support elements preferably form mutually identical support modules, wherein the photovoltaic panels can protrude relative to the support modules.
- the connecting elements likewise preferably form mutually identical modules, wherein the connecting elements need not necessarily be arranged in line between the support elements, but can instead also be arranged offset between the support elements.

- the connecting elements are embodied as floaters in order to give the installation sufficient buoyancy.
- the length of the connecting element is then for instance such that, in assembled state of the installation with photovoltaic panels, support elements and connecting elements, the support elements are held sufficiently far apart to prevent collision between the protruding panels and are held sufficiently close together for an effective use of water surface for photovoltaic energy conversion.
- the length of a connecting element can for instance be greater than the length of a support element. Larger panels can thus be supported, wherein use can be made of standard dimensions of the support elements.

- Such floating elements with plants can for instance be placed around a floating photovoltaic installation, wherein the floating elements moreover contribute to the buoyancy of the installation.
- a floating element or a plurality of floating elements can also serve to protect the photovoltaic panels in the floating installation from for instance birds, who prefer the floating elements with plants over the photovoltaic panels or the support or connecting elements. By keeping birds away from the panels a greater generation of electric power by the photovoltaic installation can be realized. Maintenance costs of the installation can further be saved.

- the connecting element can further comprise at least one opening for cooling of for instance cables above the water surface.
- Such an opening extends between an upper and a lower surface of the connecting element, for instance from a surface of the connecting element which is directed toward the water surface, toward an opposite surface of the connecting element.
- the opening can also extend from a surface of the connecting element which is directed away from the water surface, and toward a surface of the connecting element lying opposite thereto.
