Abstract

Disclosed is a simple and easy to operate footrest assembly (100) for motor cycle. The assembly (100) comprising at least one lever (10) connected to at least one stopper device (40) through at least one cable (30), at least one footrest rod (20) pivoted to move between an open position and a closed position, and at least one spring (50). The stopper device (40) is connected to the cable (30) and is adapted to keep the footrest rod (20) in closed position under normal conditions. The lever (10) is mounted on a handle (60) of the motor cycle in such a way that the driver can apply pressure thereon. The cable (30) transmits the pressure experienced thereon to the stopper device (40), releases the stopper device (40), such that the footrest rod (20) disengages with the stopper device (40) and set to open position.

Description

FOOT REST ASSEMBLY FOR MOTORCYCLE
CROSS-REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATIONS AND PRIORITY The present application claims priority from Indian Patent Application no. 202021016359 filed on 15th April 2020, the details of which are incorporated herein by a reference.
Field of the invention
The present invention relates to automobiles and more particularly relates to a footrest assembly for motorcycle that can be operated manually.
Background of the invention
In general the motor cycle’s footrests are the rigid rod mounted at the side brackets of the motor cycle. These rigid extension rods are coupled to the brackets and are found to be extended beyond the edge of the brackets. Normally, the footrest comprises a rod attached with a footrest surface, allowing the footrest rod member to be pivoted between bend opened and closed positions.
Currently available footrests in motor cycles like scooters and motor bikes are manually operated. In most of the cases, the back seat rider recognizes that the footrest is closed after sitting. Then, they try to pull it open by using legs but many times they find it difficult. Then the next step is to bend in waist and try to pull the footrest by hands. But this will be a difficult task for the people with disabilities and aged fellows. Also, it would be really difficult and unhygienic to touch and open the footrest every time by hands. It might also become the cause of accidents.
Accordingly, there exists need to provide an easy to operate footrest assembly that can overcome the drawbacks in the prior art.
Summary of the invention
The footrest assembly for motorcycle comprising at least one lever connected to at least one stopper device through at least one cable, at least one footrest rod having an elongated broad surface and at least one spring. The footrest rod is pivoted to move between opened and closed positions. The stopper device is disposed at the footrest rod, wherein the stopper device is adapted for keeping the footrest rod in closed position. The cable is connected to the lever at one end and the stopper device at the other end. The spring is adapted to be mounted at the footrest rod, thereby keeping the footrest rod in open position by applying spring force thereon. The cable transmits the pressure applied on the lever to the stopper device, such that stopper device releases the footrest rod to open position and the spring retains the footrest rod in the open position until the footrest rod experienced with a force to push back to the closed position.
Objects of the invention An object of the present invention is to open and close the footrest rod of a motor cycle in simple and easy way.
Another object of the present invention is to operate the footrest rod of motor cycles without touching it manually.
Yet another object of the present invention is to provide safe and quick footrest activity to start ride of motor cycle.
Various objects and advantages of this invention will become apparent to those skilled in the art from the following detailed description of the different embodiments, when read in light of the accompanying drawings.

Figure 1 shows a schematic view of a footrest assembly for motor cycle in accordance with the present invention;
Figure 2 shows a schematic view of the footrest assembly for motor cycle in open position in accordance with the present invention; and
Figure 3 shows a schematic view of the footrest assembly for motor cycle in closed position in accordance with the present invention.
Figure 4 shows a schematic view of an alternate embodiment of the footrest assembly for motor cycle in closed position in accordance with the present invention.
Detailed description of the embodiments
The foregoing objects of the present invention are accomplished by the present invention as described below in the preferred embodiments.
The invention provides a footrest assembly for motor cycle that can be opened by the driver without having any direct physical contact therewith. The opening of the footrest is done by applying a pressure on a lever and closing can be done by simply pushing the footrest towards opposite side.
The present invention is illustrated with reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein numbers indicated in the bracket represent the components of the invention throughout the description and the table given below.

Referring now to the drawings there is illustrated from Figures 1 to 4, a footrest assembly for motor cycle (100) [herein after referred to as “the assembly (100)”] in accordance with the present invention is shown. The assembly (100) comprises at least one lever (10), at least one footrest rod (20), at least one cable (30), at least one stopper device (40) and at least one spring (50).
The lever (10) is connected to the stopper device (40) through the cable (30). The lever (10) is mounted at any suitable location on the motor cycles in such a way that the driver can apply pressure thereon. In a specific embodiment, the lever (10) is mounted on a handle (60) of the motor cycle. In alternative embodiments, the lever (10) is mounted in a position selected from front panel, under seat, back side of the vehicle and like. The cable (30) is an automotive control cable capable of transmitting the pressure applied on the lever (10) to the stopper device (40). The cable (30) is fixed on a motor cycle bracket with the help of clip fitting. The cable (30) is connected to the lever (10) at one end and the stopper device (40) at the other end. The stopper device (40) is further attached to the footrest rod (20) such that the footrest rod (20) can be pushed to closed position under normal conditions.
In an embodiment, the cable (30) is fixed on a motor cycle bracket with the help of welding, screwing, clipping or bolting and alike. In a specific embodiment, the cable (30) is made of a plurality of stainless steel wires bundled in a twisted manner, wherein one end of the cable (30) is butted and dipped in molten zinc to avoid opening up of the ends and at the other end of the cable is fitted with a zinc stopper of required size/design and is fixed by a process known as die casting.
The footrest rod (20) is an elongated extension rod mounted at the lower part of a motor cycle bracket. The footrest rod (20) having an elongated broad surface, which can be opened when in use and can be closed in normal conditions. In a specific embodiment, foot rest rod (20) is pivoted to move in horizontal axis, where, the open position of the footrest rod (20) is the elongated state in horizontal axis and the closed position is a folded state about perpendicular to the open position. In an alternative embodiment, the foot rest rod (20) is capable of moving pivotally in vertical direction, wherein the foot rest rod (20) is in the elongated state towards horizontal axis in open position and in lowered and folded state in vertical axis in the closed position. Thus footrest rod (20) is pivoted between opened and closed position in horizontal axis. In an embodiment, the footrest rod (20) is also connected to the spring (50) that applies spring force thereon and keeps the rod (20) in opened position upon release of the stopper device (40). The spring (50) is a torsion spring that applies spring force on the footrest rod (20) to retain in opened position.
In an alternative embodiment, as shown in figure 4, the cable (30) consists of three ends, wherein a single end connected to the lever (10) and the double ends fitted to two different stopper devices (40A, 40B) individually. The cable (30) is adapted to transmit a pulling force experienced on the lever (10) towards the opposite ends thereof and correspondingly to the respective stopper devices (40A, 40B).
In another alternative embodiment, the assembly (100) comprises a plurality of cables (30) organized as a cable bundle capable of delivering the driving force experienced at one end to the opposite end. The plurality of cable (30) consists of a single end connected to a lever (10) and a plurality of stopper devices (40) at the opposite ends individually, such that each stopper device (30) can be released and bring the corresponding foot rest rod (20) in to open position upon actuation. Further, the assembly (100) comprises a plurality of lever (10) arranged at different points of the vehicle and are connected to at least one stopper device (40) through the cable (30). The stopper device (30) is associated with the foot rest rod (20) mounted at the motor cycle bracket.
Again referring to the drawings from Figures 1 to 3, an operation of the assembly (100) in accordance with the invention is described. The operation is described in conjunction with the drawings.
The footrest rod (20) is pivoted in open and closed positions. Upon the actuation of the lever (10), the cable (30) acts on the stopper device (40) and release the stopper (40) from the footrest rod (20). Immediately, the footrest rod (20) gets pushed to open position and remain in that state due to the spring action. Further, the footrest rod (20) can be pushed back to its normal state/closed position after use. This is done by pushing the footrest rod (20) manually towards the back side thereof.
Advantages of the invention
1. The assembly (100) can be operated with lesser manual efforts thereby making its operation easy.
2. The footrest rod (20) of the assembly (100) can be opened by applying a pressure on the lever (10). This gives hygienic, safe, quick and comfortable experience to user/riders to open the footrest.

Claims

We Claim:
1. A footrest assembly for motor cycle (100), the footrest assembly comprising:
• at least one lever (10) mounted on a handle (60) of the motor cycle;
• at least one footrest rod (20) having an elongated broad surface, the footrest rod (20) mounted on a lower part of a bracket of the motor cycle, wherein the footrest rod (20) is capable of moving pivotally between an open and a closed position;
• at least one stopper device (40) disposed at the footrest rod (20), wherein the stopper device (40) is adapted for keeping the footrest rod (20) in closed position;
• at least one cable (30) connected to the lever (10) at one end and the stopper device (40) at the other end; and
• at least one spring (50) adapted to be mounted at the footrest rod (20), the spring keeps the footrest rod (20) in an open position by applying spring force thereon; wherein the cable (30) transmits the pressure applied on the lever (10) to the stopper device (40), such that stopper device (40) releases the footrest rod (20) to open position and the spring (50) retains the footrest rod (20) in the open position until the footrest rod (20) being experienced with a force to be pushed back to the closed position.
2. The assembly (100) as claimed in claim 1, wherein the cable (30) is an automotive control cable.
3. The assembly (100) as claimed in claim 1, wherein the spring (50) is a torsion spring.
4. The assembly (100) as claimed in claim 1, wherein the footrest rod (20) is elongated in opened position and folded in closed position.
5. The assembly (100) as claimed in claim 1, wherein the footrest rod (20) is capable of moving pivotally in horizontal direction.
6. The assembly (100) as claimed in claim 1, wherein the footrest rod (20) is capable of moving pivotally in vertical direction.
7. The assembly (100) as claimed in claim 1, wherein the cable (30) consists of three ends, having one end connected to the lever (10) and two opposite ends operatively connected to two stopper devices (40) individually.
