Therefore, the container 1 is securely auto-closed by the flap 8 to protect the cigarettes stored inside it. As the flap 8 extends much further from the access opening 6, the cigarettes are better protected.
  • the lid left and right side walls 3b, 3c are substantially trapezoidal in shape, having an inclined edge that slopes downwards from the lid back wall 3d to the flap 8 when the box 2 is held in an upright, operative position with the access opening 6 at the top of the box 2.

  • the front wall of the box 2 also comprises a locking tab 9 projecting away from the main body of the box 2.

  • the locking tab 9 is trapezoidal-shaped and is formed substantially at the center of the free edge 2a.

  • the recess 10 is formed as a substantially trapezoid-shaped segment with a cut or incision in the long parallel side 10c in the outer layer of the flap 8.
  • the angled sides 10a, 10b, and the short parallel side 10d are uncut and the area containing the trapezoid in the outer layer of the flap 8 is embossed.
  • the locking tab 9 can be securely contained inside the recess 10 when the lid 3 is closed, and the cigarettes stored in the container 1 are further well protected from accidental opening.
  • the tab 9 automatically engages with recess 10 to lock the lid 3 to the box 2.

  • the recess 10 is formed in the same way as in the first embodiment but is positioned in the flap 8 so that it can contain the tab 9 when the lid 3 is closed onto the front wall of the box 2. By moving the tab below the free edge 2a of the box, it is possible to minimize the chances of accidentally damaging the tab 9 by the user when drawing out cigarettes from the access opening.
  • the flap 8 may be provided with indicia such as health warnings, on its outer surface, which is the side that is visible when the lid 3 is closed.
  • the indicia may be provided at multiple locations on the flap 8.
  • the indicia are provided on the front face of the flap 8 and on one or both sides of the box 2. As the flap 8 covers at least the half of the front face of the box 2 from the top, visual impact of the indicia is more prominent.
  • the indicia are text. However, any other type or combination of indication or marking could be provided including numerals, logos and images. Indicia can also be provided on other parts of the flap 8, such as on the inside surface of the flap 8 or the front surface of the outer frame 4a. Indicia on such surfaces are selected such that they can be viewed effectively by the consumer when the container 1 is opened. Indicia could be in the form of any branding or promotional messages.
  • the indicia can be provided by one or more of an ink, a varnish, a lacquer, embossing, debossing, and hot foil stamping. Where the indicia are provided by an ink they can be separated from the consumer goods in order to prevent any potential migration of compounds to the consumer goods. This may be achieved by providing the indicia at a position on the flap 8 that is offset from the access opening 6 when the lid 3 is in the closed position. Alternatively, or in addition, a coating (not shown) may be provided on the flap 8 in the vicinity of the indicia to prevent egression of compounds therefrom and into the consumer goods. In one arrangement a frame (not shown) can be provided on the flap 8 around the portion of the flap 8 that overlies the access opening 6 when the lid 3 is in the closed position.

Abstract

La présente invention concerne un contenant destinés à des biens de consommation comprenant un étui ayant une paroi avant, une paroi arrière, une paroi inférieure, des parois latérales et une ouverture d'accès ; un couvercle fixé pivotant à la paroi arrière de l'étui et mobile entre une position ouverte et une position fermée, le couvercle comprenant un rabat qui s'étend au-delà de l'ouverture d'accès et qui chevauche un bord libre de la paroi avant de l'étui lorsque le couvercle est en position fermée ; une languette en saillie formée sur la paroi avant de l'étui ; et un évidement formé dans le rabat du couvercle de sorte que la languette en saillie vienne en prise avec l'évidement lorsque le couvercle est déplacé vers la position fermée.
