Definitions

  • Modem roofs are popularly composed of concrete tiles made from durable but heavy cement materials. However, these roofs are heavy and require a strong support structure. In addition, fiber cement roof tiles are strong but fragile and are heavy but lighter than concrete tiles. Currently, fiber cement or double-ridged tiles are highly popular. Another type of roof tiles beginning to be used is 100- percent ceramic roof tiles with no other components. These tiles have rough or glossy surfaces, light weight and good protection against heat. Another group of tiles is metal sheets, which are loud when rain falls. Metal sheets have the advantages of strength and durability while having disadvantages from heavy weight and high expenses.
  • Corrugated plastic or polypropylene is a hard plastic sheet made from polypropylene, which is similar to corrugated paper.
  • Corrugated plastic sheets are plastic sheets on two sides with the middle spaced with ridges and holes also known as feature boards.
  • Feature boards are lightweight materials that can be cut for multiple uses including packaging boxes, artwork, hobbies and temporary signs, etc. Feature boards have the advantages of being light in weight and inexpensive as well as disadvantages due to a short usage life and lack of durability.
  • corrugated plastic is known by trade names such as Coroplast in America, Correx in Europe, Fluteboard in Australia and Pladan in Japan. In Thailand, corrugated plastic is known as “future board”.
  • Smartboards are light fiber cement board wall materials combining strength and flexibility without asbestos components.
  • Smartboard components are Portland cement, cellulose fiber, silica and water.
  • Smartboards are produced with autoclaves through steaming processes at high temperatures and pressure for ceiling tile work, walls and internal and external material support sheets. Smartboards have the advantages of being resistant to water, moisture, termites and bendability. Furthermore, smartboards are strong, durable and good at receiving impact. Smartboard materials combine strength and flexibility in the same material while having disadvantages due to inability to support heavy weight or severe impacts and are popularly used in light decorative work. Most of the abovementioned materials were created for specific use with different intentions and materials. Polypropylene sheets or smartboards cannot be used interchangeably.
  • Polypropylene sheets or smartboards cannot be made into waves and cannot make patterns to create attractiveness and value.
