Description
MECHANICAL CONTROLLER OF SIGHT ANGLE FOR RED DOT SIGHTS
Field of the invention
This invention relates to the structure of a manual mechanical controller of sight angle for red dot sights (in other words reflex sights, or collimator sights) of hunting, sporting and army firearms. In addition, such controllers can be used as attachments to red dot sights for long-range arbalests.
Background Art
Sometimes the red dot sights regard as species of riflescopes. At present these sights use widely for equipment of various small firearms because they allow to see a target by two eyes, to change position of a shooter’s head and eyes keeping in view a sighting mark and a target, and to see distinctly target ambient space without limitations and distortions.
These advantages result from their well-known typical structure that includes - a tubular casing, an ocular and an object glass arranged respectively at proximal (i.e. the nearest to a shooter’s eye) and at distal (i.e. remote from said eye) ends of the tubular casing. a point light source (for example a light-emitting diode, a laser etc) installed within said tubular casing with possibility of sliding adjustment and meant for formation of a sighting mark image (usually in the form of a color dot and, rarer, in the form a reticle), an off-line supply source of the point light source, a light flux divider into a direct beam oriented to a target and a reflected beam meant for fixation of the sighting mark image within a shooter’s visual field (this divider can shape as a semitransparent plate inclined to the sight optical axis or also a semitransparent bent collimating mirror), facilities for horizontal and vertical adjustment of the sight, and a fastening device for attachment of the tubular casing to a gun barrel.
The majority of technical solutions concerning red dot sights are aimed preferably for optics upgrade (see WIKIPEDIA, WO 80/02069, US 4402605, US 4742636, US 5577326, US 7234265, GB 2102979, FR 2664374, EP 0086764 A1 , EP 0160766 A1 , EP 0189001 A1 , DE 4007530 C1 , SU 200812, RU 94028683 A1 , RU 2054157, RU 2054855, RU 2237227, RU 2359201 etc)
Such technical solutions are valuable.
However; it is also significant to ensure accuracy of shooting at any optics. For this purpose each red dot sight must be fire adjusted after installation at specified distance to a target (e.g. 100 m) with correction of its vertical and horizontal angular position relative to a gun barrel. Further (that is during real firing) it is desirable correction of sight angle depending on actual distance to each target and, optionally, wind correction.
It is clear that the state-of-the-art allows automatization of above-mentioned correction. In fact, it can be ensured by equipping of red dot sight with a distance meter, a
2 microprocessor calculating correction and a controllable automatic drive of vertical displacement of the point light source (see e.g., US 9557140 and US 9574849).
However, such exotica cannot widely spread in respect to mass small fire arms (partly owing to excessive complexity and, accordingly, to poor reliability, and partly owing to unjustified high prices of such automated sights).
Therefore, fire-adjusting and following current correction of vertical and, optionally, horizontal angular position of a red dot sight relative to a gun barrel practice usually by use of manually controlled mechanical means.
E.g., US 20100077646 A1 discloses use of arranged outside of the tubular casing rotary click-type mechanical controllers for displacement of a whole red dot sight relative to a gun barrel during fire adjusting and for correction of sight angle (and, optionally, wind correction) during fire for an effect.
Each said controller has a pair “screw - nut”, a disc, which is connected to the screw and has ledges and valleys that are located regularly at the disc periphery, and a spring- biased finger that is able to interact with said ledges and said valleys and to click perceptibly when it comes into a next valley. At that the controller of sight angle (named in the original "an elevation-adjustment mechanism ”) is located onto a horizontal axle, geometrical axis of which crosses at right angle with geometrical axis of a gun barrel, whereas the controller of horizontal angular position is located onto a vertical axle, geometrical axis of which intersects at right angle with geometrical axis of said gun barrel.
Obviously, such mechanisms allow only discrete adjustment. This is acceptably in time of fire for an effect, but is extremely undesirable during fire adjusting because results in non-removable systematic errors of targeting. In addition, arrangement of said mechanisms on the outside of the sight tubular casing decreases their operational reliability owing to possible displacements under the influence of accidental pushes.
Thus it is preferable use of mechanical controllers (especially for sight angle correction), which are able operate continuously during fire adjusting and discretely during fire for an effect. Above-mentioned pairs “drive screw - sliding nut" hidden within the tubular sight casings can serve as a basis of such controllers.
RU 2 122 698 discloses a typical example of such manual mechanical controller of sight angle. It comprises of - a screw shaped as a vertical thread stud, an upper end of which has a means (e.g. a slot) for interaction with an driving tool, and lower end of which is fixated from axial displacement, and a sliding nut (or in other words 'adjusting slider J) that is connected cinematically with said thread stud and serves as support of aforesaid point light source together with an aiming mark.
A tubular casing of usual red dot sight of such kind has a hollow radial cylindrical prominence, in which a standard adjusting rocker switcher is inserted. This switcher serves
as said driving tool of said thread stud, has an own slot for temporary coupling with external screwdriver during fire adjusting process and is equipped with located above such flat movable disc having circular range scale that must be fixed in position defined according to the results of fire adjusting. At present such known controller uses for regulation of sight angle only during fire adjusting, and then access to the said rocker switcher must be blocked by a threaded cover screwed on said cylindrical prominence of the tubular casing. Therefore a shooter is forced to estimate actual distance to a target and to regulate sight angle on the basis of own good eye and preceding experience. The closest analog of proposed further mechanism can easy find in Internet among publications dedicated to classic riflescopes (i.e. telescopic sights), e.g. under title «Pruprup deucmeuR u ycmpoQcmeo onmumecKOzo npupena » (in English Operating principle and structure of a telescopic sight”), where Figs 17 and 18 show a mechanical controller of sight angle that comprises of - a rotary hand-wheel that is placed within a hollow radial cylindrical prominence of a tubular casing of a telescopic sight and connected immediately with a driving screw meant for vertical displacement of a sliding nut supporting an aiming mark in the form of an annular reticle carrier inserted into vertical guides, and an annular element shaped as a thin-walled cylindrical ring having lateral circular range scale, which surrounds said hand-wheel and must be rigidly fixed relative to it after fire adjusting.
The described controller allows quick changing of the aiming mark position with a glance of actual distance to a target, but unfortunately it cannot use for equipping of red dot sights without substantial modification of their design Summary of the Invention
The invention is based on the problem to create - by improvement of structure - such easy-to-produce and easy-to-use mechanical controller of sight angle, which can be mounted onto many existent red dot sights without any modification of their design.
This problem has solved in that in a mechanical controller of sight angle for a red dot sights, which comprises of - a rotary hand-wheel that is suitable for placement within an existent hollow radial cylindrical prominence of a tubular casing of the sight and equipped by a means for kinematic connection with a built-in into the sight standard drive of vertical displacement of a standard point light source together with an aiming mark, and an annular element having circular range scale, which is mounted onto said hand- wheel and must be rigidly fixed relative to it after fire adjusting, according to the invention said rotary hand-wheel has a central threaded opening and an upper annular recess located concentrically to this opening, and is equipped with a captive nut meant for holding
of this hand-wheel within said prominence of the sight tubular casing, said means for kinematic connection is shaped as such lower butt protrusion of said rotary hand-wheel that is meant for engagement in operative position with a standard adjusting rocker switcher of the sight, said annular element shaped as a ring-like disk that has flat circular range scale identical to the circular range scale located above the standard adjusting rocker switcher of the sight, is placed in said annular recess in said hand-wheel and is equipped with a check screw that is inserted into said central threaded opening and meant for holding of said ringlike disk relative to the rotary hand-wheel in position defined by fire adjusting. It is clear for each person skilled in the art that such device can serve as an easy-to- produce and easy-to-use attachment to a non-modified usual red dot sight. Operational testing of first articles had corroborated efficacy of the proposed mechanical controller of sight angle for red dot sights.
Additional feature consists in that said rotary hand-wheel is coupled with said captive nut by means of an internal joint nut.
It is also clear for each person skilled in the art that above disclosed technical solution can be supplemented or improved on the basis of well-known engineering knowledge within scope of rights that are confined exclusively by added claims.
Brief Description of the Drawings The invention will now be explained by detailed description of structure and use of the mechanical controller of sight angle for red dot sights with references to the accompanying drawings, in which -
Fig. 1 shows general view of the mechanical controller of sight angle (longitudinal section by plane that includes symmetry axis); Fig. 2 shows a set of said controller components with a glance of their spatial relationship (axonometric view);
Fig. 3 shows general view of said controller ¾ from above;
Fig. 4 shows the equipped with said controller red dot sight that has fixed onto a gun barrel in operative position (axonometric projection). Best Embodiment of the Invention
The mechanical controller of sight angle is an attachment to a built-in into a original red dot sight existing standard mechanism of vertical displacement of a point light source together with an aiming mark.
The best embodiment of the invention (see Figs 1 and 2) comprises of - a rotary hand-wheel 1 that has non-designated especially a central threaded opening and an upper annular recess located concentrically to this opening and is equipped with a lower butt protrusion 2 meant for engagement in operative position with a designated below standard adjusting rocker switcher of the red dot sight; such ring-like disk 3 having non-designated especially flat circular range scale, which
is placed in above-mentioned annular recess in said hand-wheel 1 , has at least one but preferably two opposite thrust openings 4 and is rigidly fixed after fire adjusting relative to said rotary hand-wheel 1 by means of a screw 5; a captive nut 6 that is assembled with said rotary hand-wheel 1 by means of an internal joint nut 7; and a rubber sealing washer 8.
Fig, 1 shows also some details of usual existent red dot sight such as hollow radial cylindrical prominence 9 of a non-designated especially standard tubular casing of this sight and a standard adjusting rocker switcher 10 placed within said prominence 9. This switcher 10 has above a non-showed especially standard flat circular range scale meant for fire adjusting of this sight and a slot 11 meant eventually for engagement with the butt protrusion 2 of the rotary hand-wheel 1.
Said adjusting rocker switcher 10 is kinematically connected immediately with a driving screw of a standard drive for vertical displacement of a point light source together with an aiming mark that is non-showed here for simplicity.
It is understandable that both above-mentioned flat circular range scales are identical.
Fig. 3 shows demonstrably disposition of ring-like disk 3 with flat circular range scale in above-mentioned annular recess of the rotary hand-wheel 1.
Fig. 4 illustrates demonstrably interrelationship of the proposed mechanical controller of sight angle with a standard tubular casing of any red dot sight.
The described controller can use as follows.
Firstly, a mounted onto a gun barrel red dot sight must be fire adjusted. For this purpose a not-showed here standard screwed cover must be removed from said prominence 9 in order to clear access to the actual rocker switcher 10. During fire adjusting it can be fine rotating by an external screwdriver in order to set optimal initial position of the above-mentioned point light source together with the aiming mark. Then said rocker switcher 10 together with the standard flat circular range scale must be rigidly fixed.
Secondly, the proposed controller of sight angle must be installed relative to the prominence 9 instead aforesaid screwed cover.
For this purpose the ring-like disk 3 having additional flat circular range scale must be slightly released by loosening of the screw 5. Further this disk 3 must be rotated by pushing onto of the thrust openings 4 walls up to moment when angular positions of both said circular range scales will have coincided. Then said ring-like disk 3 must be rigidly fixed by the screw 5.
Finally the butt protrusion 2 of the rotary hand-wheel 1 must be engaged with the slot 11 of the rocker switcher 10.
When a shooter uses a modified red dot sight he estimates visually or measures objectively an actual distance to a target and rotates as appropriate the rotary hand-wheel 1
in order to set up a specific sight angle.
Industrial Applicability
The proposed mechanical controller of sight angle can be serially produced from available materials using traditional metal-working equipment and use extensively for supplementary equipment of existent red dot sights, e.g. such as “SUSATL9A1" mounted on english automatic rifles or PDP2ST produced by japan firm Tasco ProPoint etc /
