Description

Toy or educational device
Background of the invention
Many educational tools have been developed that help teaching children various subjects at school. Often, these tools include manual manipulations and other game features that attract children and increase their interest and desire to learn.
Significant innovations in this area include those disclosed in US Patent No. 680411 , 2529413, 2728149, 2901839, 2949681 , 3451879, 4078318 and 4493654. Some of these patents practice using a string element (for example, a cord) and laying them on an object or card for the formation of graphic objects or for the game for the purpose of learning.
US patent No. 4493654 discloses a device which contains mutually opposite edges, each edge having many notches along its length. On the front side of the device, next to the notches along a first edge is a series of questions, and all the answers are randomly located next to the notches along the opposite second edge of the device. The task of the student is to hold a cord from a notch on the first edge, corresponding to a question, to a notch on the opposite second edge of the device next to the correct answer to it. On the back of the device there are lines indicating the position of the cord for the correct answer.
An important advantage of this education device is the possibility of self-learnings of the correctness of the solution by the child himself.
The device was designed to teach young schoolchildren various subjects of the school curriculum. However, due to the limited number of questions that can be placed on a single device, this educational device is not fully used. Teachers who use these devices in the learning process are interested in as many tasks as possible, which they can solve with the help of this educational device, allowing several students to work with different variants of the same task. In addition, the teacher is interested in using the device for tasks created by him for specific purposes in situations that often arise in the learning process. However, the number of questions applied to one device is limited by its size and usability, therefore, for a new set of questions, it is necessary to produce a new device with questions and answers printed on the front side and with markup to check the correctness of the solution on the reverse side, and the device should be made of solid material to ensure the preservation of the shape of the device during winding the string element on it in the process of forming the solution of the problem.
Description of the invention
A disadvantage of the known device is that it does not allow replacing and adding tasks. The device of the present invention provides the ability to solve an unlimited number of tasks by allowing changing of cards with tasks. The technical solution of the task is achieved by the fact that in the inventive device containing a card and a cord, there is an adapter made of solid material and intended to be placed under (or over) a task card, and the adapter is transparent at the place where the card is applied, or the adapter has a shape of frame in such a way that from the back of the adapter you can see the reverse side of the card laid on it.
Fig.1 shows a solid adapter, with edge notches for the passage and fixation of the cord and the place of cards applied.
Fig.2 shows the front side of the card with the “Pick up the appropriate letter” task for example
Fig.3 shows the reverse side of the card with a graphic markup to determine the correctness of the solution of the problem, the conditions of which are given on the front side of the card.
Fig.4 shows the device consisting of an adapter with a card superimposed on it, view from the front side.
Fig.5 shows a device consisting of an adapter with a card superimposed on it, view from the back.
Fig.6 shows a device consisting of an adapter with a card and a string overlaid on it, carried out in accordance with the solution of the problem “Choose the appropriate letter”.
The device offered by us contains an adapter 1 , card 2 and a string element (string) 3. The adapter is made of solid material, providing the possibility of multiple winding of its cord without changing its shape due to its rigidity. The edges of the adapter have edge notches 4-19, 20, providing the possibility of the cord to pass in fixed places. The adapter is designed for placing cards 2 with a task on it. The card can be applied to the adapter with or without any known method of fixation. The adapter area in the place of overlay of the card 21 is transparent, or the adapter in this place is made in the form of a frame so that on the back side of the adapter one can see the back side of the card superimposed on it (Fig.5). The adapter has the ability to attach the the cord 3, needing for the process the solution of the task which is placed on the card.
On the front side of the card 2 there are elements of information 22-38, including the task for the student or the condition of task 22, as well as other graphic images, for example, in the form of numbers, letters or drawings, which are part of a logical task (for example, questions and answers) 23- 38. Information elements 23-38 are arranged in such a way that after applying the card to the adapter, they are opposite the edge notches of the adapter (Fig.4). On the back of the card is a graphic markup 39, used to indicate the correct solution of the problem. When the card is superimposed on the adapter, the graphic markup is visible on the back of the adapter (Fig.5) due to the fact that the place of superimposing the card on the adapter 21 is transparent or the adapter in this place has a frame shape. To solve the problem, cord 3 is used. The cord 3 is wrapped around the device (adapter with a card superimposed on it) and guided through the edge notches 4-20 in the order established by the logic of the task, starting from the first notch 4 and ending in the final notch 20 (Fig.6). For example, for the “Match the appropriate letter” task, shown on the card as an example (Fig.1-6), the procedure for holding the cord to solve it is the following. On the reverse side of the device, the cord is first passed through the first notch 4, leading to the front side of the device; next to notch 4 appear a capital letter “A” 24, since the corresponding lowercase letter “a” 33 is located near the notch 14, the cord is guided on the front side of the device to the notch 14 and through the notch 14, going to the back side of the device, then, on the back side of the device, the cord is brought to notch 5 and passed through it, going to the front side of the device, since the capital letter “B” 25 is located next to the notch 5, and the corresponding lowercase letter “b” 31 is located near the notch 12, the cord is held on the front side of the device to the notch 12 and through it, while the cord goes to the back side of the device, then, on the back of the device, the cord is fed to the notch 6 and passed through it, leading the cord to the front side of the device, since the capital letter “C” 26 is placed next to the notch 6, and the corresponding lowercase letter “c” 34 is located near the notch 15, the cord is held on the front side of the device to the groove 15 and through it, while the cord goes to the back side of the device, then, on the back side of the device, the cord is brought to notch 7 and passed through it, leading the cord to the front side of the device, and so on, continue to hold the cord, passing in order from top to bottom all the capital letters shown on the card, and finding the corresponding lowercase letters. After connecting all the pairs of letters with the help of the cord, the cord is guided into the final notch 20 (Fig.6).
Verifying the correctness of the solution is carried out by comparing the lines formed by the cord on the back of the device 40 and the graphic markup 39, located on the back of the card and visible on the back of the device due to the transparency of the place of the overlay of the card on the adapter. In the case of a correct solution, the lines formed by cord 40 and graphic markup 39 coincide.
Changing tasks is provided by a simple change of cards with the required tasks on the adapter.
So, we see that with the proposed adapter you can use replacement cards with tasks, without the requirement of hardness of the card material on which the tasks are printed, and without having to cut the edge notches on the cards; the necessary stiffness properties and the presence of notches are provided by the adapter on which the cards are superimposed.
