Description

A REFRIGERATOR COMPRISING A PANEL CONDENSER
The present invention relates to a refrigerator comprising a refrigeration system having a panel condenser which is embedded into the walls of the body.
In a refrigerator, the main components of the system performing the refrigerant cycle are the compressor, the condenser and the evaporator. In the refrigeration cycle, the refrigerant is compressed by the compressor, and the evaporator draws heat from the fresh food and freezing compartments of the refrigerator, thus carrying out the refrigeration process. The condenser provides the discharge of the heat of the refrigeration system to the external environment. There are different solutions provided for the placement of the condenser in the state of art. In many embodiments, the condenser is in the form of a planar coil which is formed by joining the serpentine refrigerant tube with wires or fins. The planar coil condensers are mounted to the rear wall of the refrigerator such that a gap remains therebetween for air circulation. This type of condenser structure increases the outer volume of the refrigerator and decreases the usable inner volume, while making the transportation of the refrigerator difficult. In order to solve this problem, panel condenser applications are developed where the condenser directly contacts the rear wall of the refrigerator. The panel condenser applications are also called tube-on-sheet or hot-wall applications. In this application, the condenser coil is adhered or taped onto the inner surface or the outer surface of the rear wall. However, heat transfer problems are encountered in the panel condenser applications. The outer wall which is in contact with the condenser heats up and causes the polyurethane insulation material between the inner lining and the outer wall to heat up, thus decreasing the refrigeration efficiency and increasing energy consumption.
The Patent Application No. WO2019020175A1 relates to a cooling device comprising a condenser which is fixedly adhered onto the outer surface of the body wall.
The aim of the present invention is the realization of a refrigerator comprising a condenser which is embedded into the walls of the body and which transfers heat to the external environment by heat convection.
In the refrigerators, polyurethane is injected between the metal outer casing coated on the outer surface of the body and the inner lining enclosing the fresh food and freezing compartments in the body, thus providing thermal insulation. In the refrigerator realized in order to attain the aim of the present invention, a condenser support panel is disposed between the outer casing and the inner lining so as to contact the surface of the polyurethane insulation layer facing the outer casing. The condenser support panel supports the serpentine refrigerant tubes between the outer casing and the inner lining. In the embodiment of the present invention, a space is provided between the outer casing and the support panel, hence between the outer casing and the condenser. The heat of the condenser dissipates into the space by heat convection to be discharged from there to the external environment by means of ventilation openings, thus increasing the efficiency of the refrigeration system and decreasing the energy consumption.
The refrigerator realized in order to attain the aim of the present invention is illustrated in the attached figures, where:

The refrigerator (1) comprises a body (2) which has two side walls (3) and a rear wall (4); at least one door (5); at least one fresh food or freezing compartment (6) wherein foodstuffs or beverages are placed; an outer casing (7) which is produced from sheet metal and which is coated onto the outer surface of the body (2); an inner lining (8) which is provided on the inner side of the outer casing (7), which is produced from plastic and which is coated onto the inner surfaces of the body (2) facing the compartments (6); and an insulation layer (9) which is produced by injecting an insulation material such as polyurethane (PU) between the outer casing (7) and the inner lining (8). The refrigerator (1) further comprises a refrigeration system composed of at least one compressor (10) which provides the refrigeration cycle, at least one condenser (12) having serpentine refrigerant tubes (11) which provides the circulation of the refrigerant and at least one evaporator (not shown in the figures).
The refrigerator (1) of the present invention comprises
- a support panel (13) which is disposed between the outer casing (7) and the inner lining (8), which is placed onto the insulation layer (9) so as to contact the surface of the insulation layer (9) facing the outer casing (7) and which is produced from thermally-insulating plastic or composite material,
- a space (14) which is provided between the outer casing (7) and the support panel (13), and
- the condenser (12) of which the refrigerant tubes (11) are placed onto the support panel (13) surface exposed to the space (14) (Figure 2).
During the production of the refrigerator (1), the support panel (13), which supports the refrigerant tubes (11) of the condenser (12), hence the condenser (12), is placed between the outer casing (7) and the inner lining (8). The support panel (13) planarly contacts the surface of the insulation layer (9) facing the outer casing (7). The support panel (13) is produced from thermally-insulating rigid plastic or composite material. The space (14) is provided between the support panel (13) and the inner surface of the outer casing (7). The support panel (13) cuts off the heat transfer between the condenser (12) and the polyurethane insulation layer (9). The support panel (13) prevents the condenser (12) from heating the insulation layer (9), and thus prevents the temperature of the compartment (6) to be cooled from increasing. The space (14) between the support panel (13) and the outer casing (7) provides the discharge of the condenser (12) heat by heat convection. By means of the space (14), the heat-dissipating refrigerant tubes (11) do not contact the outer casing (7), and the outer casing (7) does not heat up while heat transfer from the outer casing (7) to the insulation layer (9) and hence to the interior volume of the compartment (6) is prevented.
