Definitions
- the present invention relates to a machine which exercises the legs, in particular the posterior thigh muscles and in the same time the iliopsoas and abdominal muscles as competing muscle members of the protagonist muscle (posterior thigh muscles). It consists of an iron base perpendicular to the ground on which the back of a soft seat is attached following an upward or downward movement during the exercise, depending on the trainee’s movement. In the front side of the machine, opposite of trainee, there is a pulley with weight plates attached to the metal base and seat, whose weight acts as a resistance to exercise. Machines that are known to train the posterior thighs are the ones that are used either from a sitting position or a lying face down position.
- the advantages of this patent are that for the first time the back thigh muscles are exercised in parallel with one or two more muscle groups (iliopsoas, abdominal muscles) of the body at the same time.
- the patent allows a multi-joint exercise to be performed that activates more than one muscle groups, as it uses more than one joints.
- the benefits of multi-joint exercises are clearly more and exercises as functional as the one performed by the patent are preferred and implemented by all professional athletes and trainers for better performance as they contribute to faster metabolism activation, more efficient fat burning, neuromuscular synergy of the muscles that are activated and rise testosterone levels, which result in bigger and faster muscle growth.
- knee curl meaning, the execution of a squat exercise and indirect hip curl.
- the soft seat is attached on the metal base «1» following an upward or downward movement during the exercise, depending on the trainee’s movement, and consists of the largest part «2» that starts from the upper back of the trainee's back and continues along his spine to support it, and from the smallest part «3» in which the glutes of the trainee rest while performing the exercise.
- a pulley «4» with weight plates «5» attached to the metal base and the seat whose weight acts as a resistance to the exercise.
- the trainee while performing the exercise, tries to push the above-mentioned seat with parts «2» and «3» downwards, while lifting the weight plates «5» to which it is attached.
- the posterior thigh muscles are exercised as the trainee exerts pressure on part «3» by pressing it downwards with the glutes and thighs, while at the same time the weight plates «5» in the pulley «4» go upwards.
- the resistance applied by the machine to the trainee is opposite to the gravitational pull, meaning that the resistance direction of the machine is upward and not downward, as when squatting with a bar on the shoulders. So, the muscles that produce the work are the exact opposite of those we train in the classic squat exercise.
- the muscles that are activated are the posterior thighs (biceps femoral, semi-tendinosus, semimem-branosus).
- the hip we activate primarily the iliopsoas and secondarily the lower part of the abdominal muscle.
- the two aforementioned muscles are activated by indirect curling of the hip as we press the seat downwards. From an upright position we exercise force downwards to curl the knees. When the knees start to curl, the hip will also slowly curl.
