- a hardware circuit and / or a processor such as a microprocessor or a part of a microprocessor, which requires software (eg, firmware) for operation, but may not have software when software is not required for operation.

For example, if applicable to particular claim elements, the term “circuit” also covers baseband integrated circuits or processor integrated circuits or similar integrated circuits in OLTs or other computing devices.
- FIG. 1 schematically shows a user plane protocol stack of a communication system in the prior art.
- NR New Radio
- LTE Long Term Evolution
- both the base station side and the UE side include a user plane protocol stack.
- the user plane has basically the same design at the base station and the UE side.
- the user plane protocol stack 110 includes a packet data convergence protocol (PDCP layer) 111, a radio link control (RLC) layer 112, a media access control MAC layer 113, and a physical (PHY) layer 114.
- PDCP layer packet data convergence protocol
- RLC radio link control
- PHY physical
- the user plane protocol stack 120 includes a packet data convergence protocol (PDCP layer) 111, a radio link control (RLC) layer 112, a media access control (MAC) layer 113, and a physical (PHY) layer 114.
- the PDCP layers 111, 121 are responsible for performing header compression to reduce the amount of bits that the wireless interface needs to transmit.
- the PDCP layers 111, 121 are responsible for the encryption and integrity protection functions of the transmitted data.
- the PDCP layers 111 and 121 are responsible for performing decryption and decompression functions.
- the RLC layers 112 and 122 are responsible for segmentation and connection, retransmission processing, and sequential transmission of high-level data.
- the MAC layers 113 and 123 are responsible for handling HARQ retransmission and uplink and downlink scheduling.
- the MAC layer will provide services to the RLC layer in the form of logical channels.
- the PHY layers 114, 124 are responsible for processing coding, modulation, demodulation, multi-antenna mapping, and other telecommunications physical layer functions.
- the PHY layers 114 and 124 provide services to the MAC layers 113 and 123 in the form of transmission channels.
- the scheduling in the MAC layer will determine how much data in each radio bearer (such as the radio bearer of the RLC entity) will be included in the MAC protocol data unit (PDU) for transmission, and will notify the RLC layer Construct RLC PDU.
- the MAC layer After the RLC PDU is formed from the RLC layer, the MAC layer will construct the MAC PDU based on the RLC PDU and send the MAC PDU that is sufficient to the PHY layer for further processing.
- the MAC PDU will be stored in the HARQ buffer of the corresponding HARQ process at the same time for subsequent retransmission.
- HARQ retransmission scheduling will allocate resources for HARQ retransmissions at a fixed time; if asynchronous HARQ is supported, scheduling may allocate resources for HARQ retransmissions at any time after NACK feedback is obtained.
- HARQ can be used to support data retransmission at the MAC layer to meet certain reliability requirements.
- it usually has a large propagation delay. This means that there will be a large number of HARQ processes and a large number of cached MAC PDUs within a round trip time (RTT), as shown in Figure 2. This will require a very large buffer capacity for the receiver's soft buffer. Therefore, the HARQ retransmission technology that is feasible for terrestrial networks will be difficult for terminal devices that access non-terrestrial networks. For this reason, for the HARQ problem of non-terrestrial networks, a scheme to enhance existing HARQ and HARQ function restriction / disabling has been proposed.
- 3GPP technical document R1-1802631 a solution for configuring the HARQ process number and HARQ disabling has been proposed.
- 3GPP technical document R1-1804857 further describes some solutions for HARQ disabling:
- HARQ process ID greater than the HARQ process ID in the set of configured HARQ processes to instruct not to send HARQ ACK / NACK feedback.
- C-A different C-RNTI is used as the UE identifier, one C-RNTI identifier indicates normal HARQ operation, and the other C-RNTI identifier is used to indicate that HARQ ACK / NACK feedback will not be transmitted.
- the NR base station gNB can decide whether to completely disable HARQ-based retransmission operations. If the HARQ function is disabled, this means that for the transmission of data packets, only one transmission is performed. If the first transmission fails, no more MAC layer retransmission will be performed. Therefore, when the HARQ function is disabled and the MAC PDU cannot be decoded correctly, this will inevitably require further retransmissions to meet reliability requirements.
- the most direct solution that can be adopted in the prior art is to perform further retransmissions through ARQ operations in higher layers. In other words, the RLC layer uses the RLC AM mode for processing. However, the delay caused by both this retransmission operation and the RLC PDU retransmission scheduling will cause additional delay and jitter in the data packets.
- a technical solution for transmitting data packets is provided.
- only key information that can be used to reconstruct the data packet such as the MAC control unit, RLC status PDU, and RLC PDU header information, may be stored in the MAC layer buffer Wait.
- the upper layer data packet can be obtained from the upper layer entity based on the stored key information of the MAC data packet, and the MAC layer data packet can be reconstructed based on the stored key information.
- this solution reduces the redundant caches of the MAC layer and the RLC layer while supporting the HARQ function. Therefore, this scheme can not only improve the transmission reliability, but also significantly reduce the buffer size requirements.
- FIGS. 3 to 9 a technical solution for transmitting data packets according to an embodiment of the present disclosure will be described with reference to FIGS. 3 to 9.
- the embodiments of the present disclosure have been described in conjunction with the application scenario of NTN, the present disclosure is not limited to this, but can be applied to other communication systems to reduce the redundancy of data packets while supporting HARQ Cache.
- the following embodiments are described by taking MAC layer HARQ as an example, the present invention may also be applicable to other situations where the buffering of redundant retransmission data needs to be reduced.
- FIG. 3 illustrates an example method 300 for transmitting data packets according to some embodiments of the present disclosure.
- the method 300 may be performed by a MAC layer entity at the MAC layer, for example.
- the upper layer data indication information in the upper layer data packet included in the first transmission data packet is stored. Therefore, unlike the conventional HARQ process, in the embodiments of the present disclosure, the MAC PDU itself is not stored, but key information that can be used to reconstruct the MAC PDU is stored so that the MAC can be reconstructed based on the stored information when retransmission is required. - the MAC SDU in the MAC PDU may be an RLC PDU.
- the RLC data transmission mode may include a transparent mode (TM), an unacknowledged mode (UM), and an acknowledged mode (AM). For different transmission modes, the RLC PDU format is different.

- the data packet headers 501 and 601 are used to indicate information related to the payloads 502 and 602 in the RLC PDU, and include information such as segment indication (SI) and sequence number (SN). This information is important information that helps to reconstruct the MAC layer data during retransmission.

- the SO can also be cached together in the MAC layer buffer.
- control-related information of the first transmission data packet may be further stored, so that the first-time transmission data packet is further reconstructed based on the control-related information when constructing the data packet containing the retransmitted data.
- the control-related information may include at least one of status data packets of the control unit MAC of the media access control layer and the radio link layer control protocol RLC.
- the MAC PDU shown also includes MAC CE.

- MAC CE information can also be stored. In this way, MAC can be included in the reconstructed MAC PDU during data reconstruction.
- the MAC PDU may also contain control related information from the RLC layer, such as the RLC status PDU.
- the RLC status PDU can be directly stored in the buffer of the MAC layer, so that when the data is reconstructed, the RLC status PDU in the first transmitted data packet is also included in the reconstructed MAC PDU.
- FIG. 7 shows a schematic diagram of the HARQ function in the MAC layer according to an embodiment of the present disclosure.
- the buffer shown in FIG. 7 includes MAC, CE, SN, and SO, different information may be cached under different circumstances.
- the SO will not be cached; if the MAC does not include the MAC, the MAC will not be stored; if the MAC includes the RLC status PDU Next, you can also cache the RLC status PDU.
- the upper layer data indication information is sent to the upper layer entity.
- the MAC layer entity may obtain upper layer data indication information from the stored data packet information, and send the acquired upper layer data indication information to the RLC layer.
- the RLC layer obtains the corresponding RLC PDU from its cache based on the upper layer data indication information such as SN, SI, SO, etc., and returns it to the MAC layer.
- step 330 based on the upper layer data packet corresponding to the upper layer data indication information received from the upper layer entity, a data packet containing retransmitted data is constructed. After receiving the RLC PDU, you can reconstruct the MAC PDU at the MAC layer. In the case where control-related information such as MAC CE, RLC status PDU, etc. is also stored in the corresponding buffer, the MAC CE or RLC status PDU can also be placed in the reconstructed MAC PDU.
- control-related information such as MAC CE, RLC status PDU, etc.
- retransmission supporting HARQ functions may be implemented.
- the joint decoding of the first transmission and the retransmission can be supported, for example, chasing combining and incremental redundancy can be supported.
- the first transmitted MAC PDU and the reconstructed MAC PDU will be the same.
- retransmission in the MAC layer may also be supported by the self-decoding function.
- the MAC used for retransmission may be the same as the MAC used for the first transmission, and may also be different from the MAC used for the first transmission.
- transmission resources are allocated for retransmitted data in preference to newly transmitted data for the first time.
- retransmission data takes precedence. Therefore, when constructing the MAC PDU, the retransmitted data will be placed first, and then the new data transmitted for the first time.
- transmission resources are allocated for retransmitted data in preference to newly transmitted data for the first time. That is to say, when placing data, first according to the original priority and PBR (Prioritized Bit Rate) (refer to the relevant part of logical channel priority in 3GPP TS38.321), according to each logical channel or Logical channel groups are used to place data, but for each logical channel or logical channel group, the priority of retransmitting data is always higher than the new data transmitted for the first time.
- PBR Primary Bit Rate
- the optimized retransmission function proposed by the present disclosure there may be various ways to activate the optimized retransmission function proposed by the present disclosure.
- it may be performed in response to the hybrid automatic repeat request to disable the HARQ function. That is, whether it is uplink transmission or downlink transmission, when the HARQ function is disabled, an optimized retransmission scheme is automatically executed.
- the enabling of the method may also be independent of the disabling of the HARQ function.
- the base station can decide whether to enable the optimized retransmission function of the present disclosure.

- the optimized retransmission related function of the RLC layer may be enabled in response to the disabling of the HARQ function. That is, whether it is uplink transmission or downlink transmission, when the HARQ function is disabled, an optimized retransmission scheme is automatically executed.
- the RLC layer needs to have the ability to cache the RLC PDUs sent to the MAC layer before. Therefore, in the case where the optimized retransmission related function of the RLC layer is enabled in response to the disabling of the HARQ function, if some bearers are in the unacknowledged mode UM, it may be set to the AM mode. In addition, it is also possible to add a buffer for storing RLC PDUs without changing the mode.

In addition, similarly, it is also possible not to change the mode, but to additionally add a buffer for storing RLC PDUs.
- the data packet retransmission scheme of the present disclosure it is not necessary to store the entire MAC PDU in the HARQ buffer, but only the important information used to construct the MAC PDU.
3GPP TR 38.811 V15.0.0,“Study on NR to support non terrestrial networks (Release 15)”中已经提出两种方案供进一步研究。
