Description
Roof window frame with installation set and flashing assembly
The aspect of the invention is a roof window frame with its installation set and flashing assembly.
Invention PL223391 is described as being a sealing flange for the connection between the roofing and the structure penetrating the roof, the shape of which is adapted to the structure penetrating the roof. It consists of the profiled elements made of flat, thin and partially elastically deformable material, with a geometrically similar overlapping edge placed during the installation at the location of their interconnection. The flange elements are snap locked together using the natural flexibility of the flange material. The snap connection of the flange pair elements is achieved through a socket formed in the bottom element and a bulge formed in the top element.
Invention PL205441 is described as a sealing-insulating flange for roof windows that has a supporting surface in the form of a frame with an internal opening of a shape corresponding to the roof frame, but with an outer periphery enlarged by a parallel displacement. The item also consists of a clamp with an internal periphery, the shape and dimensions of which correspond to the frame periphery, and which interconnect with a strip of a surface constituting any side surface of a polyhedral body with bases of different sizes that are parallel to each other and which corresponds to the opening in the frame supporting the surface of the flange and the window frame outer periphery, respectively.
Invention PL224719 is a side flashing element for application with a roof penetrating structure installed on the surface of a sloped roof. The side flashing elements have a receiving section that is a drain section essentially inclined at the same angle as the roof that is located below the receiving section in the as- assembled state. The flashing assembly contains a side flashing element, preferably made of a single material, according to which the angles between the
sections are formed by double-bending the material, giving it the shape of the letter“Z”. This element is fastened together by means of at least one part of the bend being in the form of the letter“Z”, wherein the adherance comes about by pulling at least one remaining part, in order to, at least partially, bend this out.
Invention PL221316 is a flashing with a sealing element for sealing the area between flashing sections and side cladding for ensuring the waterproof transition between the roof-penetrating structure and the surrounding roofing. The sealing elements consist of a sealing and a coupling part that is connected with the sealing part and one part of the flashing. The position of the flashing sections in relation to each other is adjustable.
Invention PL223155 is a sheet flashing element for a roof window frame or similar element that penetrates the roof of the building. The sheet element of the flashing has an adjustable corner segment and a flat section, as well as two other corner segments. The surface of at least one of the corner elements has at least a single visible mark or a weakening segment indicating the mark in a way so that at least the fragment of the sheet section can be separated from the other part of the flashing element along the mark in order to adapt the corner segment to the penetrating roof element by way of selecting between two configurations of the corner segment.
Invention PL226093 is an execution method for flange sealing the connection of a roof-penetrating element with high-profiled roofing. The vertical arm of the upper corner element is adjusted to the shape of the penetrating element by way of a bending process that consists of several sequential bending operations, with bending axis non-parallel to each other, whereas the cut-out is in the shape of a isosceles trapezoid in which the edges are non-parallel to each other, but are parallel to the corresponding inclined axis.
Invention PL223474 is a cover with an internal corner, and is an element of the roof flashings that are intended for sealing the penetration of roof top installed construction structures. It is in the form of a thin, essentially flat piece of sheet metal, with at least one polygonal recess. Herein, at least two sides of this are bent towards one side, forming walls that connect with the main part of the guard, while at least one of the adjacent peripheral walls is non-perpendicular to the main part of the guard. Of note, the rounding radius of the peripheral corner edge is much smaller than the rounding radius of the peripheral base. The guard
manufacturing method involves extrusions in the sheet metal that hold the shape and dimensions of the bottom in accordance with the desired shape and character of the recess in the guard being the end product. The guard is adapted to the working scenario by being cut from the extrusion bottom, thus achieving a recess in the guard.
The objective of the invention is the possibility of positioning a roof window frame within a plane parallel to the roof structure, as this enables protecting the frame sills against deformations such as bending and twisting under the load of the window casement, as well as facilitating and shortening the time of installation in the roof slope, and easing the burden of roof window transportation. In addition, the gapless positioning of a water-tight flange is made possible without using assembly bolts.
The essence of such a roof window frame, installation set and flashing assembly as covered by the invention, is that the frame is equipped with stabilizing angle bars, as well as tilting fasteners permanently fixed in the bottom and top sills, while the peripheral groove of the frame has slots for embedding stiffeners positioning a set of side guards. Moreover, the bottom guard is bonded via shaped corners with adjustment brackets on the horizontal walls, wherein the shaped corners have through holes located in accordance to the openings in the retaining wall, for embedding two-unit drainage elements that simultaneously fasten the bottom guard to the bottom sill of the frame. In contrast, the top section of a set of side guards ends with a frame clamp consisting of a top guard with a retaining wall. The frame clamp is covered by an overframe side guard and an overframe top guard, while the frame has slots for snap brackets from the inside. The frame has two tilting fasteners in the bottom sill, preferably fixed permanently, and one permanently fixed tilting fastener in the top sill.
The preferable tilting fasteners are fixed to the frame using butt hinges, with an axis of rotation in the form of a curve.
The fastening stiffeners are preferably in the form of angle bars.
The adjusting brackets position the side guards relative to the bottom part of the frame.
The profiled frame clamp preferably has a section with a contour similar to the letter "Z".
The snap brackets are preferably situated on the outer surface of the stiles and the top sill.
The snap bracket consist of a bearing plate with a snap arm surrounded by a compensating guide.
An advantage of the solution covered by the invention is the possibility to position a roof window frame within a plane parallel to the roof structure. Such a situation enables the protection of the frame sills against deformation, bending and twisting under the load of the window casement. In addition, it aids in shortening the time of installation, and it facilitates the transport of roof windows. Another advantage is allowing the possibility of obtaining a gapless positioning of the water-tight flange without the use of assembly bolts.
The solution covered by the invention is further explained through illustration. Herein, Fig. 1 shows a general view of the frame and the installation elements, Fig. 2 is a cross-section of a frame with the tilting installation fastener in a closed position, Fig. 3 shows a cross-section of a frame with the tilting installation fastener in an open position, Fig. 4 shows a general view of a set of elements for the flashings that form the water-tight flange, Fig. 5 shows a general view of an assembled water-tight flange, Fig. 6 shows a bottom frame sill, Fig. 7 shows the central section of the frame stile, Fig. 8 shows the general view of a snap bracket, Fig. 9 shows the vertical section of the snap bracket and Fig. 10 shows the cross section of the over-frame top guard with an installed snap bracket.

The stabilizing angle bars (3) are mounted to the stiles (7) of the frame (1), on the outer side, in the central area of these stiles. The frame (1) has a set of flashing
elements that constitute a sealing flange connection with the roofing. These are profiled from thin sheet metal and are shaped through standard forming and consist of a bottom guard (8), top guard (9) and side guards (10). The bottom guard (8) has a retaining wall (11) with through holes (12), whereas the bottom guard (8) is bonded with shaped corners (13) having through holes (14) located in the vertical walls (15), in accordance to the through holes (12), with embedded two-unit drainage elements (16) that simultaneously fasten the bottom guard (8) to the bottom sill (4) of the frame. The vertical walls (17) of the shaped corners (13) have adjustment brackets (18) that position the side guard (10) relative to the bottom part of the frame. In their upper part, the side guards (10) have stiffeners (19) in the form of angle bars equipped with sockets (20) for embedding in the peripheral groove (21) of the frame (1), ensuring the correct positioning of the side guard (10) relative to the stile (7) of the frame.
