Definitions
- the present innovation relates to a device capable of containing a volume of a viscous liquid product, such as any cosmetic composition, to have a portion of its volume applied and subsequently spread over different surfaces, such as the skin of a user or any other surface that requires the application of said viscous liquid product, without it coming into direct contact with the user's hands during the manual operations of application and spreading.
- a viscous liquid product such as any cosmetic composition
- Viscous liquid products such as creams, lotions, sunscreens, and other non-cosmetic compositions are well known, which are available on the market in generally hand- easy recipients and provided with a cap, for example a flip- top cap with a pouring nozzle to enable the user to apply an amount of the product stored in the recipient on a surface that can be defined by the skin of an individual or by a surface of any object to be treated with said viscous liquid product.
- a cap for example a flip- top cap with a pouring nozzle to enable the user to apply an amount of the product stored in the recipient on a surface that can be defined by the skin of an individual or by a surface of any object to be treated with said viscous liquid product.
- Such recipients work as a means for applying the viscous liquid product on the surface to be treated.
- an amount of the viscous liquid product representing a portion of the volume stored in the recipient, has to be spread on the surface under treatment.
- the user makes use of a spreader means in a separate piece from the recipient and usually in the form of a fabric or foam pad to homogeneously distribute, on the surface to be treated, the amount of product previously applied on it.
- a separate spreading means results in a serious disadvantages in outdoor applications in which the safe keeping of the spreading means requires additional tasks and containers to prevent the spreader, always containing a certain amount of the impregnated viscous liquid product, from being exposed to contaminations and to contaminate the restricted environment in which it is housed, such as a purse or bag.
- sun-blocking compositions which are generally used in swimming pools or on the beach, the use of a spreading means in a separate piece causes unavoidable problems. Examples of spreader means in a separate piece from the applicator recipient can be seen in documents BR MU9100135-8 and AU2010/100978A.
- the viscous liquid product is defined by a cosmetic, dermatological, repellent, protective or sun-blocking composition
- the viscous liquid product after applying the desired amount of the product onto the user's skin, the latter uses the hands to spread said composition. It occurs that the direct use of the hands to spread the composition over the skin of the user causes, in many applications, the need for the user to have to clean the hands to remove the composition impregnated in them. The user does not always have the facilities and the means to wash the hands after having spread the composition over the skin. The beach environment is a place where the inconveniences of using one's hands as a spreading means are manifested most clearly.
- the applicator means is carried by the body of the applicator means defined by the recipient of the viscous liquid product.
- the spreading means maintains a fluid, continuous or selective communication with the interior of the recipient to enable the product stored in the latter to migrate, through interaction with the user, to the spreading means, impregnating the latter, and then being spread over the surface to be treated.
- an object of the present invention to provide an application device for viscous liquid products on different surfaces, having a simple construction, relatively low cost and which allows the user to apply directly on the surface to be treated, a desired amount of the viscous liquid product contained in an applicator recipient, and then spreading the product onto said surface using the same applicator recipient provided with a spreader pad without the hands coming in direct contact with the product being applied and spread.
- Figure 1 shows a bottom perspective view of the applicator recipient without the cap and without the cover and further illustrating, in exploded position, the spreader pad;
- Figure 2 shows a bottom plan view of the applicator recipient
- Figure 3 is an end view of the applicator recipient, taken from the side of the nozzle;
- Figure 4 is a perspective view of the cover, taken from the side of its mounting aperture in the recipient;
- Figure 5 is a top plan view of the cover, with an end open and partially cut out;
- Figure 6 is a side plan view of the cover, with an end open and partially cut out;
- Figure 7 is a side view of the assembly formed by the cover, shown in longitudinal cross-section and mounted around the applicator recipient already carrying the spreader pad, the recipient and the spreader being partially cut out.
- the innovation in question relates to an applicator-spreader device for viscous liquid products on different surfaces, allowing the user to apply the product directly from an applicator recipient 10 on any surface to be treated, and then use a spreader pad 20, charged by the applicator recipient 10, to spread the liquid product over said surface.
- the device in question comprises the applicator recipient 10 constructed of any suitable material, preferably in polymeric material to allow its manual compressive deformation by the user, when desired the release of an amount of product to be applied on the surface to be treated, which may be the skin of an individual or a surface of any other object.
- the applicator recipient 10 has a nozzle 11 for filling and release of the viscous liquid product, to be closed by a pouring cap 30, which may be, for example, a flip-top cap, without being mandatory the use of a specific cap model. However, it is generally advisable for the pouring cap to have a construction that allows the user to release, controllably, the desired amount of the product when applied to the surface to be treated.
- the spreader pad 20 may be formed in different materials such as natural or synthetic fabrics or in polymeric foam material, able to adequately spread the viscous liquid product on the surfaces to which it is intended. In some materials, the spreader pad may further be capable of being impregnated, at least partially, by the product being spread therewith, without impairing the operation of the device or leading to product waste.
- the spreader pad 20 has a retaining face 21 seated and retained against an outer and hermetic surface portion 10a of the applicator recipient 10 and an opposing free face 22. This assembly allows the spreader pad 20 to remain deployed of any fluid communication with the product contained in the applicator recipient 10. There is no fluid communication between the interior of the applicator recipient 10 and the spreader pad 20.
- the spreader pad 20 may have its retaining face 21 retained in the applicator recipient 10 by definitive gluing or by gluing or other retention means permitting the replacement of said spreader pad 20 prior to the exhaustion of the viscous liquid product contained in the applicator recipient 10.
- the latter comprises a cover 40 constructed of any suitable material, usually in polymeric material, removably mounted and retained around at least part of the applicator recipient 10, so as to completely surround the spreader pad 20.
- the applicator recipient 10 comprises a handle portion 12 and a spreader portion 13 in which it is provided the outer surface portion 10a against which the retention face 21 of the spreader pad 20 is seated and retained.
- the handle portion 12 of the applicator recipient 10 has one end 12a incorporating the nozzle 11 and an opposing end 12b from which the spreader portion 13 projects.
- the outer surface portion 10a of the applicator recipient 10 is preferably defined by a bottom wall PF of a surface recess RS having a depth less than the thickness of the spreader pad 20, so that the latter can project outwardly of said recess surface RS, facilitating contact of the spreader pad 20 with the surface to be treated with the viscous liquid product.
- the nozzle 11, the handle portion 12 and the spreader portion 13 of the applicator recipient 10 are disposed on a same axial alignment, with the outer surface portion 10a of the applicator recipient 10 being disposed on an inclined plane from the opposite end 12b of the handle portion 12 to a distal end 13b of the spreader portion 13.
- the handle portion 12 of the applicator recipient 10 has a slightly frusto-conical shape with its smaller base defined at the end of the handle portion 12 and with its larger base defined at the opposite end 12b of the handle portion 12, the latter being still provided with a plurality of corrugated circumferential grooves 12c to increase the hand grip efficiency of the applicator recipient 10 by the user .
- the handle portion 12 of the applicator recipient 10 is further externally provided, at the opposite end 12b, with a circumferential groove 12d, the function of which will be further described.
- the cover 40 is preferably constructed in tubular form with an open end 41, with a compatible contour with the contour of the opposite end 12b of the handle portion 12, and with an opposite closed end 42, to surround not only the spreader pad 20, as well as the spreader portion 13 of the applicator recipient 10.
- the open end 41 of the cover 40 is internally provided with a circumferential rib 41a, dimensioned to be engaged and held, by interference, in the circumferential groove 12d of the handle portion 12 of the applicator recipient 10.
- the cover 40 In order to keep the spreader pad 20 aerated, when surrounded by the cover 40, the latter is provided with ventilation holes 45, to enable the sponge material of the spreader pad 20 to "breathe", preventing the proliferation of fungi and bacteria (see Figures 4, 5 and 7) .
- the ventilation holes 45 are provided in the wall of the cover 40, opposite of that facing the spreader pad 20, preferably near the closed end 42 of the cover 40.
