Abstract

The present invention relates to a composition of a prawn broodstock feed and an improved method for preparing the same. The composition comprises raw squid, raw bivalve meat, raw fish meat, lipid source, vitamin C, premixed vitamin, premixed mineral and carrageenan. The present invention also provides a simple method of preparing, storing and utilizing a prawn broodstock feed composition. Advantageously, the present invention involves the composition and method for preparing a nutritious prawn broodstock feed for better health and spawning performance of prawn broodstock.

Description

COMPOSITION FOR PRAWN FEED AND METHOD OF PREPARING, STORING AND UTILIZING THEREOF
FIELD OF INVENTION
The present invention generally relates to a composition and method of preparing feed for prawn broodstock. More particularly, the invention relates to a moist feed composition having ingredients for better health and spawning performance of prawn broodstock and method of preparing, storing and utilizing thereof.
BACKGROUND OF INVENTION
Prawn broodstock are typically fed with fresh feed such as squids, mussels, and worms directly without processing them. The prawn broodstock fed with fresh feed is highly prone, to be exposed to diseases that are caused by parasites, bacteria and viruses from fresh feed especially mussels and worms. Hence, prawn hatchery operators exclude fresh feed that is highly likely to transmit diseases from being fed to the prawn broodstock. This results in the imbalance of nutrients in the feed that is fed to the prawn broodstock thus affecting the health, survival and spawning performance of prawn broodstock. Both paiatabiiity and structure of the diet for prawn broodstock affect ingestion and the manner in which prawn broodstock eat influences the need for a feed that has high water stability. Hence, formulated moist diets appear to reduce disease transmission within the same population, increase survival rate and maintaining spawning performance.
Chinese patent number CN104486953A describes a feed for shrimps wherein the feed is prepared in such a manner where the ingredients include microbial btomass and it is free of one or more resources from fisheries, including fisheries resources from the protein source derived from aquatic animals and or aquatic animal derived lipid source. The prior art uses fishery free protein source in order to feed shrimps. Apart from that, the pellets formed are in the dried form before It is fed to the shrimps. Chinese patent number CN103504136A discloses a premlx for prawn feed wherein the ingredients include.5 to 10% multidimensional pramixes, feed premixes 10-20% minerals, 50% chlorine 10-20% choline, vitamin C poly-phosphate i~2%. 25% aiiicin. 0.1-0.5% cholesterol ~ 4%, 10-20% betaine, glycine 0.1- 0.5%, salt 0.1 ~ 0.5%, lectthin 0.1 -0.5%, aquatic complex enzyme 5 to 10%, shrimp shelling prime 2-4%, HJ-1 adhesive 20 to 30%, g 0.1-0.5% oxygen, sodium diacetate I - 2%, wheat flour 30-40%. The content of the ingredients made for the premix of prawn feed did not Include nutritional dietary supplements. The feed is also made into a dried form before it is fed to shrimps.
Thus, there is a need for an improved composition fo prawn broodstock feed and method of preparing thereof that eliminates the risk of contracting diseases and increases survival rates of the prawn broodstock as well as overcomes or mitigates the disadvantages of the prior art. Although there are compositions and methods for the same in the prior art, for many practical purposes, there is still considerable room for improvement.
SU SIVSARY OF INVENTION The following presents a simplified summary of the invention in order to provide a basic understanding of some aspects of the invention. This summary is not an extensive overview of the invention, its sole purpose is to present some concepts of the invention in a simplified form as a prelude to the more detailed description that is presented later.
Accordingly, the present invention provides a prawn broodstock feed composition. The composition which can be characterized by comprising 30% to 50% of raw squid by weight; 20% to 30% of raw bivalve meat by weight; 20% to 40% of raw fish meat by weight; 1 % to 5% of lipid source by weight; 0.01 % to 1.00% of vitamin C by weight; 1% to 5% of premixed vitamin by weight; 1% to 5% of premixed mineral by weight; and 1 % to 5% of carrageenan by weight.
Preferably, the bivalve meat is selected from mussels, or cockles or combination thereof. Preferably, the lipid source is selected from liver oil, fish oil, or plant oils or combination thereof.
Preferably, the premixed vitamin is selected from the group consisting of Vitamin A, Vitamin D, Vitamin E, Vitamin K, Vitamin 82, Pantothenic acid, Niacin, Choline chloride, Vitamin 812, Folic acid and combination thereof.
Preferably, the premixed mineral Is selected from the group consisting Zinc oxide, Ferrous sulphate and carbonate, Manganous oxide, Ethylenediaminedihydroiodide, Cobalt sulphate. Sodium chloride. Copper oxide and combination thereof. in accordance with another aspect of the present Invention, there is provided a method of preparing, storing and utilizing a prawn broodstock feed composition,
The method comprises the steps of combining an ingredient selected from the group consisting of combining one or more ingredients selected from the group consisting of 30% to 50% of squid b weight, 20% to 30% of bivalve meat by weight, 20% to 40% of fish meat by weight, 1 % to 5% of lipid source by weight, 0.01 % to 1 .00% of vitamin C by weight, 1 % to 5% of premixed vitamin by weight, 1% to 5% of premixed mineral by weight, and 1 % to 5% of carrageenan by weight; blending the combined ingredient to form a moist paste; heating the moist feed to sterilize the moist paste; freezing the moist feed to store the moist paste prior to prawri broodstock feeding; and thawing the frozen moist paste and cutting the thawed frozen moist feed into a plurality of pieces to feed the praw broodstock.
Preferably, the ingredient is blended for 30 seconds.
Preferably the moist feed is heated at 100 for 18 minutes per kilogram.
Preferably, the moist feed is stored frozen at - 4' to -1 S'C to store the moist feed for a period of one to twelve months. It is therefore an advantage of the present invention that the composition includes raw ingredients such as squid , bivalent meat fish meat, as well as various vitamins and minerals that has high value of water stability and nutritious diet which is essential in increasing survival rates of the prawn broodstock.
It is therefore another advantage of the present invention to provide a simplified preparation method which employs heating and consequently sterilizing the composition to reduce risks of diseases affecting the prawn broodstock caused by conventional feed that are prone to contamination.
The present invention advantageously solves the problems of unhealthy and contamination prone feed for prawn broodstock. In addition, the use of imported ingredients can be reduced and thus, saves the cost and time for preparing the feed. Also, the feed can be easily prepared prior to feeding by prawn broodstock without the use of complicated and expensive machines.

The illustrated present invention describes an embodiment of a composition of prawn broodstock feed and method preparing, storing and utilizing a prawn broodstock feed composition thereof.
In an embodiment of the present invention, the composition of the prawn broodstock moist feed are included by weight percentage. The ingredients includes 30% to 50% of squid, 20% to 30% of bivalve meat, 20% to 40% of fish meat, 1 % to 5% of lipid source, 0.01 % io 1 ,00% of vitamin C, 1 % to 5% of premixed vitamin, 1 % to 5% of premixed mineral and 1 % to 5% of carrageenan.
The composiiion of the prawn broodstock feed is formulated in order to provide a feed for prawn broodstock using raw squid, fish meat, and bivalve meat without compromising on the nutrition value that can be found in each raw ingredient. The prawn broodstock feed is able to provide a feed in a form of moist paste that can be easily prepared and fed to the prawn broodstock.
The presence of aquatic animals in the ingredients are to provide enough nutrients that enhances the health and survival rate of the prawn broodstock. The ingredients that include aquatic animals are squid, mussels or cockles or any other bivalve meat, fish meat, and cod iiver oil or fish oil. For lipid source, plant oil such as palm oil, soybean oil and canola oil may replace the use of cod liver oil or fish oil in freshwater prawn broodstock diet. Vitamin C, premixed vitamin, premixed mineral and carrageenan are present in composiiion for both types of prawn species. The precise and a range of the composition percentages used are as shown in Table 1 .

Carrageenan j 2% 1 - 5% The bivalve meat used may include mussels' meat, or cockles' meat or a mixture of mussels' and cockles' meat. For example, the mussels in the composition of diet for marine prawn broodstock can be replaced with cockles in f reshwater prawn broodstock diet without compromising on the percentage as both mussels and cockles are aquatic organisms rich in protein and omega-3 fatty acids. Both !moleic (omega-8 fatty acid) and linolenic (omega-3 fatty acid) acids are essential fatty acids for prawns but the nutritive value of iinoienlc is higher. Hence, mussels and cookies are great source of protein and omega-3 fatty acid that will increase the health and survival fate of prawn broodstock. The mussels, cockles, squid and fish meat are raw ingredients that is well cleaned before added into the composition mix.
The premixed vitamin preferably includes mixtures of Vitamin A, E, K, 82, B12, Pantothenic acid. Niacin, Ghoiine chloride and Folic acid, The premixed mineral preferably Includes mixtures of Zinc oxide, Ferrous sulphate and carbonate, Manganous oxide, Ethylenedlaminedihydroiodide, Cobalt sulphate, Sodium chloride, Copper oxide, and Sodium seienite. Alternatively, any commercially available premixed vitamins and minerals can be used in the composition of the present invention to make up the 1% to 5% of premixed vitamin and 1% to 5% of premixed mineral respectively.
According to another preferred embodiment of the present invention, there is provided a method of preparing , storing and utilizing with respect to the composition disclosed herein. The method of preparing, storing and utilizing the prawn broodstock feed includes simple steps. Firstly, all of the ingredients are combined into a blender mixer and blended to form a moist and thick paste. The blender mixer will mix the blended ingredients to form a uniformed moist feed. Once the moist feed is well mixed, it is preferably transferred into containers that are heat friendly.' The heat friendly container that is filled with the moist feed is then heated in the microwave oven to sterilize and kill any microorganism that may cause diseases to the prawn broodstock. The moist feed is heated at lOO'G for 18 minutes per kilogram. The moist feed is then refrigerated and stored at - 4°G to - 13"C for later use. The moist feed can be kept nd stored for a period of one to twelve months when stored at the specified temperature. When the need to use arises, the moist feed is then thawed and cut into desirable sizes before fed to the prawn broodstock. An experiment was conducted using 30 pairs of tiger prawns {Penaeus monodon) that includes male and female p wn broodstock. The prawns were obtained from a fisherman nearby ota Kua!a Muda, Kedah with each prawn having an averaged body weight of 64,3±15.2g for male prawns and 103.9±13.4g for female prawns. The tiger prawn broodstock were then equally distributed and placed into six large tanks with the capability to store 5 metric tonnes of sea water. The piacements of the prawn broodstock are as shown in Table 2.

Prawn broodstock in the Tank 1 , Tank 3 and Tank 6 were fed with squid and dry pellet feed as a control whereas prawn broodstock in Tank 2, Tank 4 and Tank 5 were given formulated moist feed according to the composition of the present invention. Daily, the squid and rnoist feed were fed at 1100 hr at the rate of 7.5% bio nass per day and dry pei!et feed were given at 1800 hr the rate of 2.5% biomass per day.
Tests for White Spot Syndrome Virus (VVSSV), Infectious Hypoderma! and Hematopoietic Necrosis (SHHNV) and Acute Hepatopancreatic Necrosis Disease (AHPND) using qPCR was conducted on the third pleopod of the tiger prawns before and after the experiment. The number of died prawns were recorded. The saltiness of the water (g/L), pH. temperature (°C) and saturated oxygen (mg/L) were recorded daiiy at 8.30am and 3.00pm.
After 3 days, PGR was conducted and it was observed that there is a presence of IHHNV in 50% of the prawns, presence of VVSSV in 80% of the prawns and presence of AHPND in 60% of the prawns. On day 170, the test results were observed to show there were no presence of IHHNV, WSSV and AHPND in aii of the prawns in the six tanks.
The experiment result concluded that the composition and the method of preparation of the moist prawn feed of the present invention is able to eliminate the risk of diseases in prawn broodstock. The result is as tabulated in Table 3.

Another experiment was aiso conducted to observe the nutritional value in moist feed of the present invention compared to a fresh diet wherein fresh diet includes just the squid and cockies. The aim of this experiment ss to determine the efficiency of the freshwater prawn broodstock (Macrobrachium rosenbergii) in producing nauplii iarvae. The diet fed to the prawns are as shown in Table 4. The resuit of the experiment is shown in Table 5.

The result of the experiment shows the insignificant spawning performance 5 and nauplii production when the prawns are fed with moist feed. The present invention is able to provide enough nutrition that will reduce disease transmission, increase survival rate and maintaining spawning performance of prawn broodstock.

Claims

1. A prawn broodstpck feed composition, characterized in that, the composition comprising:
30% to 50% of raw squid by weight;
20% to 30% of raw bivalve meat by weight;
20% to 40% of raw fish meat by weight;
1% to 5% of lipid -source by weight;
0.01% to 100% of vitamin C by weight;
1 % to 5% of premixed vitamin by weight;
1% to 5% of premixed mineral by weight; and
1 % to 5% of carrageenan by weight
2. The composition according to Claim 1, wherein the bivalve meat is selected from mussels, or cookies or combination thereof,
3. The composition according to Ciaim 1 , wherein the lipid source is selected from liver oil, fish oil, or plant oils or combination thereof.
4. The composition according to Claim 1 , wherein the premixed vitamin is selected from the group consisting of Vitamin A, Vitamin 0, Vitamin E, Vitamin K, Vitamin
82, Pantothenic acid, Niacin, Choline chloride, Vitamin 812, Folic acid and combination thereof .
5. The composition according to Claim 1 , wherein the premixed mineral is selected from the group consisting Zinc oxide, Ferrous sulphate and carbonate, anganous oxide, Ethyienediaminedihydroiodide, Cobalt sulphate, Sodium chloride. Copper oxide and combination thereof.
6. A method of preparing, storing and utilizing a prawn broodstock feed composition, characterized In that, the method comprising the steps of: combining an ingredient selected from the group consisting of combining one or more ingredients selected from the group consisting of 30% to 50% of squid by weight, 20% to 30% of bivalve meat by weight 20% to 40% of fish meat by weight, 1% to 5% of lipid source by weight, 0.01% to 1.00% of vitamin C by weight 1 % to 5% of premixed vitamin by weight 1 % to 5% of premixed mineral by weight, and 1% to 5% of carrageenan by weight (101);
blending the combined ingredient to form a moist paste (102);
heating the moist feed to sterilize the moist paste ( 03);
freezing the moist feed to store the moist paste prior to prawn broodstock feeding (104), and
thawing the frozen moist paste and cutting the thawed frozen moist feed into a plurality of pieces to feed the prawn broodstock (105).
The method according to Ciaim 6. wherein the ingredient is blended for 30 seconds.
The method according to Claim 8, wherein the moist feed is heated at 100'C for
18 minutes per kilogram.
The method according to Claim 6, wherein the moist feed is stored frozen at - 4"C to -18" C to store the moist feed for a period of one to twelve months.
