Abstract

The object I am about to present is meant for patients that need bed rest for a short or long period of time, for example: neurological cases with different types of paralysis, patients after surgery for pelvic fractures, broken legs or spinal damage, badly injured patients from the Anesthesia and Intensive Care Unit, patients after general anesthesia, rachianaesthesia for different types of surgery that come with a need for bed rest. This type of multifunctional hospital bed "Doctor Ivanoff' model seems to be unique. The description of the object: the object we are presenting is made of two parts: part B, which is a multifunctional hospital bed "Doctor Ivanoff' model, and part C, which is comprised of interconnected elements: the toilet (20), the grinding and pumping machine "Sanipompa" model (26), the bedpan (9) with the distal end of the flexible hose in the toilet. Thus the patient will not have to open and shut the metallic toilet lid. These interconnected elements are mounted on a wooden board and set in place by screws. Part C is the invention. It is linked to part B and thus the multifunctional hospital bed "Doctor Ivanoff' model is formed. The heating unit is used to rise the temperature around the bed, when it drops below 20 degrees Celsius. The heating unit is mounted on the wooden board as well, near the other elements.

Description

MULTI-FUNCTIONAL HOSPITAL BED
Description:
The presented object is made of two parts: B and C. Part B is a metallic hospital bed which I have modified as follows: the first layer made of a mattress with metallic coils has been replaced by a metallic sheet divided into three parts: part one (7), part two (12 A) and part three (2). Part one (7) can be moved and represents the part for the upper part of the body. Part two (12) is sustaining the pelvic region and the thighs. This part has an oval hole for the toilet. Also there is a mechanism that moves the lid from above the toilet. The movement is helped by the design having two U-shaped profiles. This mechanism is protected by a metallic board mounted on the two U-shaped profiles which allow the toilet lid to slide open and shut. To level the difference of height given by U-shaped profiles a wooden sheet (5) has been mounted on with the same height as the U-shaped profiles from the both free surfaces on the metal board from the part two of the metallic board. The part three (2) is the area where the main part was mounted (the crane), which moves the board which covers this area is itself covered by a metallic protection board. The second layer (2) is made by the sponge mattress (14), which has an oval hole which coincides with the hole in the metallic board and the hole for the toilet. The hole in the mattress has a sponge lid (15) so that it can be covered when it is not used. The third layer is an impermeable tarp (17) that can become a bathtub when needed, so that the patient can be bathed. The tarp has the same dimensions as the bed. It is set on the right linked to the upper part of the bed. The rest is rolled up (17) on the right edge of the bed. In order for the bathtub to be used, the tarp (17) must be set underneath the patient until the left part of the bed is reached. On the left side the tarp has eyelets with holes (19) through which a string can be pulled and all the sides of the tarp can be set on the upper edges of the bed's frame on the two sides. The bathtub has a hole (16) so that the water can be drained into the toilet. The hole (16) has a stopper and the patient can lie in the bathwater if he/she so chooses. After the bathing is over and the water is not drained through the hole, the tarp will be dried with a towel and then rolled up (17) on the right side of the cushion. A pear-shaped bedpan (9) is mounted on the bed attached to a hose (12) that drains in the toilet. The advantage of this system is that the urine drains directly into the toilet without lifting the metallic lid.
This idea is original and it is claimed so. The bed has a remote control (6C) for the metallic lid of the toilet. There is also the buzzer that calls for the caretaker's help. Part C (20) is made of a wooden board (22) mounted on six swivel wheels (25) and two wheels (23) with manual brake system. The objects mounted on the board are the following: the toilet seat (20A) with the metallic lid controlled by an electric mechanism (2) situated on part three of the metallic board set on the bed, which is also the mattress: The toilet is linked to the grinding and pumping machine (2B) ("Sanitop silence" pump) through a flexible connection (24) to the toilet the water is provided by a tank (28 A) set on the wall next to the bed. When the patient needs the toilet, he/she uses the remote control (6C) and the lid (4) opens. Afterwards the water is flushed and immediately the grinding and pumping machine (26) turns on and the waste is pumped into the plumbing (27). Next the patient can wash himself/herself in the bidet (11) from the toilet. There is no need for toilet paper or Pampers. If the patient cannot manage by himself/herself, he/she will ask for help from a relative or a caretaker if he/she is in a hospital. In this case he/she will make use of the remote control (6C) in order to be washed. Afterwards the lid is closed. For women, the lid (4) must be opened, but for men the modified bedpan can be used, with the distal end (12) being linked to a metallic, flexible hose mounted into the toilet. In order to use the bathtub (17) and the bidet (11), a tap (10) is mounted on the right part of the bed at a third of the bed's length. The patient can use hot and cold water either for the bath or for the bidet, which is linked to the toilet. A T-piece is mounted to the tap. Next a tap for the bidet and one for the bathtub are connected to the T-piece. On the wooden board a heating unit (21) is mounted, in order to rise the temperature around the bed, when the room grows colder (below 20 degrees Celsius).

Claims

Claim
The bedpan (9) is modified in shape and content, thus unlike anything found on the market. It is pear-shaped having the proximal extremity wider and the end with a screw thread which is mounted on a metallic, flexible hose (12)( used for the shower as well) connected to the toilet (20).
Claim
The bathtub (17) is made of an impermeable tarp linked by a thread to all the sides of the bed. It has a hole in the middle through which the bath water resulted after washing the patient can be drained into the toilet. Afterwards the bathtub (17) is dried with a towel and then rolled up on the right side of the bed.
