Description
"Lipstick for treating herpes"
Description
Field of the art
The present description refers to a particular system for treating herpes. Typically, but not exclusively, for treating herpes simplex which is manifested at the labial level. More in detail, the present invention refers to a labial kit comprising a particular formulation comprising at least two portions: a first clay-based portion and a second portion with cocoa butter portion.
State of the art
Among the infectious diseases that fall within the generic name of "Herpes", Herpes labialis is undoubtedly among those most widespread. This is a disease mainly caused by the Herpes simplex 1(HSV - 1) virus belonging to the Alphaherpesvirinae sub-family. It is typically contracted during childhood through saliva, kisses and generally by means of inter-human contact during infectious phase. Once Herpes has infected the organism, it remains latent until its manifestation. The virus of Herpes labialis can manifest itself due to various triggering factors such as sudden temperature changes, prolonged and uncontrolled exposure to solar rays, influenza and parainfluenza states, sudden hormonal changes and, often, following prolonged periods of high stress. It settles at the nucleus of the trigeminal ganglion, where it remains in latent form before then reactivating in light immunodepression situations, above all in the case of stress, and gives rise to a cold soar on the lip.
This is a chronic disease for which definitive treatments have not yet been identified. Nevertheless, the duration of the manifestations can be reduced by antiviral drugs, anesthetics and creams such as those based on zinc oxide or zinc sulfate applied in a timely manner on the affected skin area.
It appears as an eruption formed by numerous blisters, followed by the formation of crusts.
Herpes can disappear on its own in about ten days, but if it is desired to speed up the healing thereof it is possible to use several natural remedies, if one prefers avoiding the use of common drugs. For such purpose, the following substances are suitable for the treatment of herpes, for example: equisetum extract which is usually sold in powder form and recommended for the treatment of herpes labialis due to its silica, sulfur and zinc content; lemon juice, whose acidity is capable of subjecting the blisters to caustic agents and speeding up the healing process thereof; the essential oils of Melaleuca quinquinervia, Ravensara aromatica and Eucalyptus raviata; lemon-balm, whose dried leaves can be purchased in an herbalist shop and used for preparing a compress to be applied on the herpes labialis in order mitigate the itch or the pain that this can cause; Echinacea, in ointment or extract form, which can be used as remedy in order to speed up the healing of herpes labialis or for alleviating the disturbances connected therewith, having immunostimulating and antiinflammatory properties; smilax aspera, belonging to the liliaceous family, which can be used as stimulant of the immune system and of which the root is typically used for preparing infusions to be used as compresses on the skin or in the form of mother tincture to be taken diluted in water; and burdock, considered to be one of the most recommended herbaceous plants for treating disturbances of the skin such as dermatitis and eczema. Such plant can be used, once dried, for preparing infusions to be used at tepid temperature for the preparation of compresses to be applied on herpes labialis.
Other known remedies against herpes labialis provide for the application, on the area affected by herpes, of substances such as: potassium alum crystal, recognized as one of the most effective methods for healing the breakout of herpes (sometimes only one application is sufficient for blocking and regressing herpes, without even allowing it to be totally manifested); and clay, which has proven to be an effective agent opposing the propagation of herpes. For example, the document ES2239527 describes a white clay-based composition, whey and water for treating Zoster herpes. The use of such substance is also optimal for prophylactic purposes after the appearance of soreness on the lip area affected by the infection. Its application typically provides for a previous treatment of the clay in powder
form with water, in order to obtain a composition in clay paste form ready to be applied on the area to be treated. Such use of the clay, and the necessary pre-treatment with water, inevitably imply that the preparation of said clay-based remedy, for treating herpes labialis, occurs in an extemporaneous manner, requiring the user to arrange all the equipment necessary for preparing a formulation based on clay and water suitable for its specific use. Typically, users must arrange not only the clay and water, but also a container such as a bowl or the like, a rod or a similar device adapted for mixing, within the bowl, the clay with water. For such reasons, the use of clay for treating herpes labialis typically represents a remedy which users can use only to a limited extent and in particular only in private places such as in one's home, rather than in public places or work settings or in many other situations that arise during the day.
All of the above limits the benefits associable with the clay for treating herpes labialis.
For such purpose, the object of the present invention, described in detail hereinbelow, is that of proposing a system which allows the user to use the clay in a formulation such to be adapted for lip application thereof also in places that are not actually "home" sites, but rather in many other situations. More in detail the present industrial invention patent application proposes a system like a lipstick comprising a clay and water based composition suitably formulated for treating herpes (typically for treating herpes labialis) in any daily situation.
Description of the invention
The present description refers to a new and particular system, like a lipstick, for treating herpes. More in detail the present description refers to a lipstick comprising a clay-based composition for treating herpes. Typically, but not exclusively, for treating herpes labialis. Still more in detail, the present invention refers to a lipstick comprising said clay-based composition made of a formulation such to make it easily applicable on the skin portion, typically on the lip portion, affected by herpes. More specifically said composition is easily applicable like a lipstick, due to its particular formulation which makes it a compact structure and spreadable just like with common lipsticks.
Said formulation is a solid based with cylindrical and multilayer structure comprising at least two concentric portions. More in detail said formulation comprises at least one first inner clay-based portion and at least one second outer portion with cocoa butter base.
The lipstick, object of the present invention, thereof comprises a case similar to the cases of common lipsticks and can be provided with any one common and known screw mechanism that allows extracting and retracting, in the base of said case, said solid clay-based formulation.
Advantageously said lipstick and the particular clay and cocoa butter - based formulation synergistically cooperate in order to provide users with an easy instrument for treating herpes in any place or situation; by way of a non-limiting example said stick can intuitively be easily used while at work, during travel on public transportation, on the street, in the gym and in many other places or contexts, only requiring the user to open the case of said stick and apply the formulation thereof on the lip portion affected by herpes.
Advantageously the formulation in solid paste is such to ensure not only that its argillaceous portion can be made spreadable, but that it also carries out a synergistic action with the outer portion with cocoa butter base. The latter in fact carries out the double function of: defining a hollow cylindrical housing at whose interior it is possible to insert the clay and water based composition in paste form, to which a profile - it too cylindrical - is inevitably and intentionally imparted; and that of protecting said argillaceous composition from degrading phenomena, such composition coming to be wrapped by the cocoa butter which is well- known to comprise oily and protective substances.
In addition, the same cocoa butter can carry out its conventional function of softening and protective agent for the lip in all the portions not affected by herpes. As will be clearer from the following description of the preferred embodiments and from the observation of the enclosed figures, a lipstick is thus formed that is decidedly easy to use, that can be industrially manufactured, is not expensive, and above all is effective for treating herpes, typically but not exclusively for treating herpes labialis.
Brief description of the drawings
The present invention is described hereinbelow with reference to the enclosed figures, in which:
FIGURE 1 shows a front view of the lipstick 1 and its components, object of the present industrial invention patent application. More in detail figure 1(a) shows said stick 1, in closed configuration, comprising a common case 2 which comprises a base 4 and a cap 5. Figure 1(b) instead shows that said stick 1 in open configuration reveals its formulation 3 comprising at least one first inner portion 6, clay-based, and at least one second outer portion 7 with cocoa butter base. Figure 1(c) shows a detailed view of the formulation 3. In addition to said first inner portion 6 and second outer portion 7, the presence of the bottom T of the second outer portion 7 is indicated. Said bottom T is adapted to allow the adaptation of the formulation 3 to the base 4 of the case 2 of the lipstick 1.
FIGURE 2 shows a perspective view of the stick 1 in open configuration (fig. 2(a)) and a plan view of the formulation 3 and of the first inner portion 6 and second outer portion 7 comprised therein (fig. 2(b)).
Description of the preferred embodiments
In its preferred embodiment, the stick 1 for treating herpes, object of the present industrial invention patent application, comprises a case 2 and a formulation 3 comprising clay and cocoa butter. More specifically, said case 2 is a common lipstick case comprising a base 4, adapted to accommodate the formulation 3, a cap 5 adaptable to said base 4 and adapted to close said case 2, as well as all the levers conventionally found in common lipsticks which allow extracting and retracting, with rotary movement in clockwise and counter-clockwise sense, the cylindrical formation supported by the case. Since they are well-known, such levers will be omitted from the present description, nevertheless taking for granted that the man skilled in the art understands their presence and underlining that the essence of the invention lies in the particular formulation based on clay and cocoa butter supported by the case 2 and overall in the resulting lipstick for treating herpes.
Still more specifically, said formulation 3 appears as a solid paste with cylindrical profile, in which at least two concentric portions can be identified: at least one first inner portion 6 comprising the clay-based composition and at least one second outer portion 7 with cocoa butter base. Said clay-based composition preferably comprises 65% to 90% by weight of clay and 10% to 35% by weight of H20. Preferably said composition comprises 75% by weight of clay and 25% by weight of H20.
Said second portion with cocoa butter base comprises the components usually found in cocoa butter (fat extracted from cocoa beans). This is well-known to be one of the most stable fats containing natural antioxidants that prevent rancidness. Typically, but not exclusively, said composition comprises said second outer portion 7, of the formulation 3, comprising 24% to 27% by weight of palmitic acid; 34% to 36% by weight of stearic acid; 37%) to 39% by weight of oleic acid; from 2% to 3% by weight of linoleic acid.
As repeated several times above, said formulation 3 is a cylindrical structure comprising at least two portions: a first inner portion 6, and a second outer portion 7. The two portions are longitudinally extended, conferring a total length to said formulation 3 comprised between 3.5 cm and 6.5 cm. Preferably said formulation has an overall length of 5.3 cm, analogous to the second outer portion 7, while the first inner portion 6 has length comprised between 2.8 cm and 5.2 cm, preferably 4.7 cm. Said first inner portion 6 and second outer portion 7 have different diameter relative to the profile, typically circular, of the cross section of the formulation 3 defined thereby. More in detail the first inner portion 6, comprising the clay- based composition, typically but not exclusively has a diameter comprised between 0.5 cm and 1 cm, while the second outer portion 7 has diameter comprised between 1 cm and 1.5 cm. Preferably the first inner portion 6 has a diameter of 0.7 cm and the second outer portion 7 has a diameter of 1.3 cm. Said first inner portion 6 and second outer portion 7 also have different length. More specifically the second outer portion 7 has greater length than the first inner portion 6.
Preferably, but not exclusively, the second outer portion 7 is at least 0.5 cm longer than the inner portion 6. It follows that the second outer portion 7 has a bottom T having a thickness
of at least 0.5 cm with cocoa butter base and below the first inner portion 6.
Such thickness, i.e. said bottom 7', carries out the important and double role of: providing support to said clay-based composition defining the first inner portion 6; and allowing the stable adaptation, due to its consistency, to the base 4 of said case. In the absence of said bottom 7', the first inner portion 6, as well as the entire formulation 3, would have a hard time being adapted to said base 4, centrally comprising a composition having a viscosity different from that of the cocoa butter which as is well-known can be adapted to the bases of common lipsticks. Said clay-based composition 3, even in paste form, could in fact tend to disintegrate, e.g. via evaporation of the water initially contained therein, making the adaptation of the formulation 3 to the stick 1 ineffective if not entirely fruitless.
It follows that the second outer portion 7 synergistically cooperates with said first inner portion 6: conferring a cylindrical profile to the latter (said clay-based composition can in fact be inserted in a cylindrical cavity easily obtainable in the thickness of the cocoa butter); providing support to said first inner portion 6; allowing the stable adaptation of the formulation 3 to the base 4 of the case 2; protecting the clay-based composition from degrading phenomena, as well as carrying out its usual function of softening and protecting the skin portions, typically lip portions, not affected by herpes.
More in detail, it also should be indicated that said formulation 3, and the entire stick 1, can be variously sized in order to allow the user to be able to use said stick also for the treatment of zones affected by herpes over skin extensions different from those of the lip. Therefore, the aforesaid measurements relative to the size of the stick 1 and of the formulation 3 contained therein are merely given as a non-limiting example.
It also should be indicated that said formulation 3 can comprise further portions, comprising substances known for treating herpes. By way of a non-limiting example, said composition can comprise at least one further portion, typically but not necessary concentric like said first portion 6 and second portion 7, comprising substances such as Echinacea and Eucalyptus essential oils.
