Description

A SLIDING DOOR STEP MECHANISM
Field of the Invention
The present invention relates to a sliding door step mechanism which is developed for preventing accumulation of mud and snow on the side sliding door step in transit vehicles and also small dents that might occur as a result of the doors of the adjacent parked vehicles hitting the sliding door when being opened.
Background of the Invention
Sliding door systems are used especially in vehicles used for public transportation such as minibuses, buses and minivans with the purpose of reducing the space needed during opening/closing of the door. A rail extending along the vehicle side surface and a wheel, which is located on the door and moves in the rail, enable the door to move back and forth on the side surface of the vehicle body. Depending on the ground clearance of such vehicles, the steps used when the passengers are getting in the vehicle are either fixed to the vehicle body so as to remain beneath the sliding door or have a movable mechanism that can move into and out of the vehicle body depending on opening and closing of the sliding door. The steps that are fixed on the vehicle body beneath the sliding door are not preferred by the users since they do not have an aesthetic appearance on the outer structure of the vehicle.
The sliding door step used in the state of the art both disturbs the user in terms of appearance and makes it difficult to use the step due to accumulation of dirt deposits such as mud and snow coming from the outer environment. On the other hand, formation of such deposits on the steps having a movable mechanism causes the motor, which enables the movement of the step, to get affected and jammed causing the mechanism to become non-operational. Even though the sliding doors move on the side surface of the vehicle body by sliding, there are also doors in the art which are opened by being swung in a space outside of the vehicle body. In the case that the required space is not present during opening and closing of these doors, the vehicle door hits the objects (door of an adjacent vehicle, sidewalk, tree, etc.) within the said space and causes deformation on itself and/or the objects that it hits. This may, for example, also cause deformation of the door of a parked vehicle with sliding door which does not require a space in any way. Impacts that can occur accidentally when the doors of the adjacent vehicles are opened may cause formation of dents on the doors.
Japanese patent document no. JPS6160338, an application in the state of the art, discloses a door step developed for vehicles. The objective of the invention is to protect a step from muddy water and snow, by horizontally turning a guide rail in conjunction with the opening and closing motion of a sliding door. When the door is fully opened, the step is maintained in a horizontal state and when the door is being closed, the movable step is turned upwards and maintained in the put-away state. After that, the door is entirely closed.
Japanese patent document no. JP2008105567, an application in the state of the art, discloses a door step developed for vehicles. An extension part is provided at the tip end part of the step body and it is aligned horizontally with the step body when the step is extended and becomes inclined upwards relative to the step when being retrieved.
German patent document no. DE4238476, an application in the state of the art, discloses a folding step structure developed for vehicle cabs. The lowest step has a horizontal swivel axis which is inclined to the transverse direction of the vehicle. On moving the step upwards the step is swivelled inwards in the direction of the vehicle body. Some of the other state of the art applications are US006135472, US006926295, US20040100063, US005944332 and US 1584573. Summary of the Invention
The object of the present invention is to provide a sliding door step mechanism which prevents accumulation of mud and snow coming from the road on the steps that passengers use to get in the vehicles having sliding doors.
Another object of the invention is to provide a self-cleaning sliding door step mechanism.
A further object of the invention is to provide a sliding door step mechanism which prevents the dents caused by impacts that occur when the doors of the parked adjacent vehicles are opened.

A sliding door step mechanism (1), which is used as a support when the passengers are getting in transit vehicles with sliding doors and positioned beneath the sliding door so as not to prevent movement thereof, and which prevents formation of snow and mud deposits thereon, comprises
- at least one sliding door step (2), which is in the form of a flat plate and on which the passenger is supported upon stepping on the planar surface thereof when getting in the vehicle, and which is associated with the opening and closing of the sliding door such that it can switch between the service position wherein it extends outwardly from the vehicle body allowing the passenger to step thereon when the door is open and the out- of-service position wherein it is retrieved into the vehicle body hindering stepping of the passenger when the sliding door is closed,
- at least one actuator (3), which is required for switching between service and out-of-service positions of the sliding door step (2) depending on whether the door is opening or closing, and which enables to transmit the actuating movement received from an electric motor on the vehicle floor and accordingly makes a rotational movement on an axis perpendicular to the vehicle floor and transmits it from an end thereof facing the ground surface and which is positioned on the vehicle floor so as to be close to the door entrance where the sliding door is located,
- at least one transmission plate (4), which is in the form of a rectangular plate wherein one side is longer than the other side and is connected from its short side to the end of the actuator (3) that transmits the rotational movement in a manner perpendicular to the movement direction, and thus makes a rotational movement parallel to the vehicle floor under the influence of the rotational movement and comprises a transmission shaft (4.1) extending perpendicularly from the other short side thereof towards the ground surface, a housing (5), which is in the form of a cylinder and has a hollow (5.3) therein in which the transmission shaft (4.1) located on the end of the transmission plate (4) can freely rotate, and whose end facing the transmission plate (4) is open so as to allow the transmission shaft (4.1) to enter therein and whose other end has a closed surface to which the end of the transmission shaft (4.1) farther away from the transmission plate (4.1) is attached rotatably, and which thus converts the rotational movement made by the transmission plate (4) via its end connected to the actuator (3) to a rotational movement made by the transmission shaft (4) around its own axis and accordingly to a linear movement wherein it moves towards and away from the door entrance,
at least one spring support arm (6), which is connected to the hole (5.2) on a protrusion (5.1) located on a lateral surface of the housing (5) close to the door entrance via a pin (7) parallel to the vehicle floor such that the pin (7) can rotate around its own axis, and is fixed to the side of the sliding door step (2) that is close to the vehicle body via at least one spring (6.1) located on the other end thereof and which thus enables the sliding door step (2) to be shaken by means of the oscillating movements occurring during the oscillations taking place during travelling of the vehicle thereby enabling falling of the deposits such as mud and snow from the step, at least one powertrain (8) which enables the actuator (3) to be connected to the vehicle body and is connected to the actuator (3) from one end of its power transfer shaft (8) that is parallel to the vehicle floor and to the electric motor provided on the vehicle floor via the other end, and which, upon making a rotation via the power transfer shaft (8.1) by means of the movement received from the electric motor, enables the actuator (3) and the transmission plate (4), housing (5), spring support arm (6) and sliding door step (2) connected to the actuator (3) to be inclined towards the ground surface. The sliding door step mechanism (1) of the present invention enables to prevent the unpleasant appearance and difficulties in use occurring due to accumulation of mud and snow coming from the road on the sliding door step (2) which is associated with the side sliding door in transit vehicles and is used by the passengers as a support when getting in the vehicle. Additionally, the mechanism can clean itself by using the oscillations occurring during travelling of the vehicle for preventing the parts thereof such as the actuator (3), transmission plate (4), transmission shaft (4.1), housing (5), spring support arm (6) that enable switching between service and out-of-service positions of the sliding door step (2) from getting filled and jammed resulting in movement restriction due to deposits like mud and snow. The dirt deposits that may be formed on the sliding door step (2) are cleaned by the self-oscillating movement of the vehicle by means of the spring support arm (6) during traveling of the vehicle without requiring any effort of the vehicle owner. When the sliding door is closed, the sliding door step (2) is inclined upwards with respect to the ground surface and it is easier to remove the dirt deposits such as mud and snow on the sliding door step (2) by the oscillation movement provided by means of the spring support arm (6). The sliding door step (2) is inclined so that the powertrain can be angularly moved over an electric motor on the vehicle, and the entire structure connected thereto is designed to be subjected to this angular movement.
The sliding door step mechanism (1) of the present invention is fully inclined under the influence of the rotational movement that it receives via an electric motor to which it is connected via a power transfer shaft (8.1) and thus the sliding door step (2) is inclined as well acquiring the necessary inclination to throw away the dirt deposits such as snow and mud thereon due to oscillation under the influence of said inclination. The electric motor, which enables rotation of the power transfer shaft (8.1), is associated with opening and closing of the sliding door and it enables the sliding door step (2), which, during opening of the sliding door, extends outwardly parallel to the ground surface, and which, when the sliding door is closed and the sliding door step (2) is in out-of-service position, enables the sliding door step (2) moving towards the vehicle floor to remain in an inclined position.
In the preferred embodiment of the invention, when there are one actuator (3), transmission plate (4), transmission shaft (4.1), housing (5) and spring support arm (6) on both ends of the side of the sliding door step (2) that is close to the vehicle, a connecting member (9) enables to transmit the movement of the actuator (3) on one end to the actuator (3) on the other end by connecting the actuators (3) on both ends to each other so as to enable them to operate simultaneously by means of an electric motor provided on one end. An actuator (3), transmission plate (4), transmission shaft (4.1), housing (5) and spring support arm (6) are provided on both ends of the side of the sliding door step (2) that is close to the vehicle and the actuators (3) are connected to each other via a connecting member (9). Thus, the inclination provided by the powertrain (8), which is connected to one of the actuators (3), on the parts on one end via an electric motor is transferred to the parts on the other end via the connecting member (9). Hence the actuators (3) on both ends can work simultaneously and they move equally. Another object of the sliding door step mechanism (1) of the present invention is to prevent any small dents, friction and scratches that may occur when the doors of the parked adjacent vehicles are opened. After the sliding door handle (2) is rotated via the pin (7) by means of the spring support arm (6), the side of the sliding door step (2) farther away from the spring support arm (6) is lifted upwards from the ground surface so as to be inclined towards the outer surface of the sliding door. Thus, the sliding door step (2) serves as a bumper that protects the sliding door against impacts that may come from outside. A body control unit, which detects and controls the electrical functions via a sensor from the operational state of the vehicle to the state when the sliding door is fully closed and the engine is off, enables the sliding door step (2) to be inclined upwards so as to serve as a protective barrier upon rotating the spring support arm (6) holding the sliding door step (2) around the pin (7) axis by sending a warning signal to an electric motor. The mechanical parts are shown in detail in Figure 6. The movement of the mechanical parts shown in Figure 6 is enabled via the rotation axis means again by the help of a pin (7). However here, the movement is provided in an angular manner in the vertical axis (z-coordinate). The movement is provided and the movement command is transmitted by the help of the electric motor. The time and control of the operational movement of the electric motor is provided by the body control unit. When the sliding door is closed, the movement that will give the system its angular behavior when the vehicle is running will fix the angle that is complemented upon rotation of the sliding door step (2) by an angle that is predefined in the concerned electronic unit (sliding door module) and thus the sliding door step (2) is inclined in closed position. The process of defining the angle is a software process and includes commands embedded in the vehicle module (such as stop at 60 degrees or fix at 0 degree). Protecting the angle is related to detection of the angle. When it is detected that the desired angle is reached, the command will be transmitted via the module and it will be stopped at the desired angle or continued. This detection is carried out by the sensors and the angle sensor can read the angle and send data suitable to it. The invention will especially enable to prevent problems of hitting, rubbing and scratching of the sliding doors of parked vehicles during opening of the doors of vehicles having a traditional non-sliding door that require extra space for opening which are parked adjacent to the vehicles with sliding doors. This application which provides an additional feature to the system of the present invention is activated when it is detected via a sensor that the sliding door is fully closed. After the sliding door is fully closed, the sliding door step (2) makes a rotational movement around the pin's (7) axis when the electric motor is operated and is inclined upwards so as to stand in front of the outer surface of the sliding door.

- at least one actuator (3), which is required for switching between service and out-of- service positions of the sliding door step (2) depending on whether the door is opening or closing, and which enables to transmit the actuating movement received from an electric motor on the vehicle floor and accordingly makes a rotational movement on an axis perpendicular to the vehicle floor and transmits it from an end thereof facing the ground surface and which is positioned on the vehicle floor so as to be close to the door entrance where the sliding door is located,
- at least one transmission plate (4), which is in the form of a rectangular plate wherein one side is longer than the other side and is connected from its short side to the end of the actuator (3) that transmits the rotational movement in a manner perpendicular to the movement direction, and thus makes a rotational movement parallel to the vehicle floor under the influence of the rotational movement and comprises a transmission shaft (4.1) extending perpendicularly from the other short side thereof towards the ground surface, a housing (5), which is in the form of a cylinder and has a hollow (5.3) therein in which the transmission shaft (4.1) located on the end of the transmission plate (4) can freely rotate, and whose end facing the transmission plate (4) is open so as to allow the transmission shaft (4.1) to enter therein and whose other end has a closed surface to which the end of the transmission shaft (4.1) farther away from the transmission plate (4.1) is attached rotatably, and which thus converts the rotational movement made by the transmission plate (4) via its end connected to the actuator (3) to a rotational movement made by the transmission shaft (4) around its own axis and accordingly to a linear movement wherein it moves towards and away from the door entrance,
at least one spring support arm (6), which is connected to the hole (5.2) on a protrusion (5.1) located on a lateral surface of the housing (5) close to the door entrance via a pin (7) parallel to the vehicle floor such that the pin (7) can rotate around its own axis, and is fixed to the side of the sliding door step (2) that is close to the vehicle body via at least one spring (6.1) located on the other end thereof and which thus enables the sliding door step (2) to be shaken by means of the oscillating movements occurring during the oscillations taking place during travelling of the vehicle thereby enabling falling of the deposits such as mud and snow from the step, at least one powertrain (8) which enables the actuator (3) to be connected to the vehicle body and is connected to the actuator (3) from one end of its power transfer shaft (8) that is parallel to the vehicle floor and to the electric motor provided on the vehicle floor via the other end, and which, upon making a rotation via the power transfer shaft (8.1) by means of the movement received from the electric motor, enables the actuator (3) and the transmission plate (4), housing (5), spring support arm (6) and sliding door step (2) connected to the actuator (3) to be inclined towards the ground surface. A sliding door step mechanism (1), characterized by a connecting member (9), which, when there is one actuator (3), transmission plate (4), transmission shaft (4.1), housing (5) and spring support arm (6) on both ends of the side of the sliding door step (2) that is close to the vehicle, enables to transmit the movement of the actuator (3) on one end to the actuator (3) on the other end by connecting the actuators (3) to each other so as to enable them to move simultaneously by means of an electric motor provided on one end.
A sliding door step mechanism (1) characterized by a body control unit which detects via a sensor that the vehicle has switched from operational state to engine off state and which, by sending a warning signal to the electric motor, enables the spring support arm (6) holding the sliding door step (2) to be rotated around the pin (7) axis and thus the sliding door step (2) to be inclined upwards and towards the front of the sliding door with the purpose of enabling the sliding door step (2) to serve as a protecting barrier from outside for preventing problems of the sliding door getting hit, rubbed or scratched when the vehicle is parked.
