Definitions

  • Fig. D is a RIC (receiver in the ear) where the hearing device sets behind the ear (Illustration 19 on Fig D) and the amplified volume is pushed down a speaker wire to the speaker installed inside a solid earmold, that would then be inserted in to the ear canal (Illustration 18).
  • Fig E is a standard BTE (behind the ear) device where the device also sets behind the ear, but unlike the RIC, the speaker is at the top of the device, the sound is pushed by air down a hollow tube that is bored through a solid earmold that would be inserted into the ear canal (illustration 21 ).
  • the inherent design of the BTE/RIC device designs orient the front and rear microphones physically behind the ear; thus making the front microphones less effective than the rear microphones - particularly when in the presence of background noise. This leaves the user feeling that they can hear better behind them, compared to trying to hear the person sitting right in front of them.
  • Our earmolds are designed having their own amplifiers installed inside the earmold, and microphones oriented on the faceplate of the earmold (100% mutually - independent of the BTE or RIE device's components). These independent components, oriented at the ear canal, can either be wired to the RIC/BTE device or as a standalone with their own battery power source.
