- Alabaster glasses are opacifiered glasses with higher turbidity than opaline with a characteristic paraffin-like appearance.
- alabaster glasses include toxic components - for example, translucent alabaster glass according to U.S. Pat. No. 2417898 contains 30% to 60% toxic lead oxide as the basic component, and at least 18% alumina, at least 5% boron oxide and at least 10% silicate. This alabaster glass contains light diffusing crystals of aluminium borate.
- alabaster glasses are opacifiered by a combination of toxic substances - fluorides, phosphates and sulphates.
- the above mentioned deficiencies of the known alabaster glasses are removed by the ecological alabaster glass based on the biogenic components according to the invention which contains 68 to 78 parts by weight of silica (Si0 2 ), 0.2 to 5 parts by weight of boron trioxide, 0.2 to 5 parts by weight of alumina (Ai 2 (3 ⁇ 4), 0.02 to 0.025 parts by weight of ferric oxide (FeiOs), 6 to 16 parts by weight of sodium oxide (Na 2 0), 5 to 15 parts by weight of potassium oxide (K 2 0), 0.5 to 5 parts by weight of magnesium oxide (MgO), 5 to 15 parts by weight of calcium oxide (CaO) and 2 to 8 parts by weight of phosphorus pentoxide (P 2 i3 ⁇ 4).
