Description

용강 처리 장치 및 이를 이용한 용강 처리 방법
본 발명은 용강의 처리 장치 및 이를 이용한 용강 처리 방법에 관한 것으로서, 보다 상세하게는 용강과 슬래그의 계면 반응을 제어하여 용강의 재산화를 방지하고, 용강의 성분을 제어할 수 있는 용강의 처리 장치 및 이를 이용한 용강 처리 방법에 관한 것이다.
래들 정련 공정은 슬래그를 이용하여 용강을 보온시키고, 외부 불순물의 용강으로 혼입되는 것을 방지하며, 슬래그와 용강의 계면 반응을 통해 용강 중 불순물을 제거하는 정련 반응을 수행한다. 이와 같은 슬래그는 복합산화물로 이루어져 있으며, 래들 정련 조건에서는 용강 상부에서 이온성 용액의 형태로 존재한다. 슬래그의 주요 성분은 CaO, MgO 등의 염기성 산화물, SiO2, Al2O3 등의 산성 산화물과 FeO, MnO 등의 중성산화물을 포함하며, 전기적 중성도를 유지하기 위하여 각각 Ca2 +, Mg2 +, SiO4 -, AlO4 -, Fe2+/3+, Mn2+/3+ 및 O2- 등과 같은 이온 상태로 존재한다.

또한, 용강 중 알루미나 개재물의 저융점화 및 구상화, 용강 중 [S]에 의한 주조 중 MnS 생성 방지를 위해 Ca 성분을 금속(Metallic) Ca, Fe-Ca, Ca-Si 등의 형태로 투입한다. 그런데 Ca는 높은 휘발성으로 실수율이 매우 낮은 문제점이 있다. 이에 미분 생석회(CaO)를 용강에 투입하여 Ca를 공급하려는 시도가 있었으나, 생석회의 용해 및 해리 반응이 어렵고, 이 또한 실수율이 낮아 용강의 성분을 제어하는데 어려움이 있었다.

본 발명의 실시 형태에 따른 용강 처리 방법은, 용강 처리 방법으로서, 용강 상부에 슬래그를 마련하는 과정; 상기 슬래그의 적어도 일부에 제1전극을 접촉시키고, 상기 용강의 적어도 일부에 제2전극을 접촉시키는 과정; 상기 제1전극과 상기 제2전극에 전압을 인가하여 상기 슬래그를 분극시키는 과정;을 포함할 수 있다.
상기 제1전극은 상기 슬래그에 부유시키고, 상기 제2전극의 적어도 일부는 상기 용강에 침지시킬 수 있다.
상기 슬래그를 분극시키는 과정에서, 상기 제1전극에는 양극을 연결하고, 상기 제2전극에는 음극을 연결할 수 있다.
상기 제1전극은 흑연을 포함하고, 상기 슬래그를 분극시키는 과정에서, 상기 슬래그 중 산소 이온은 상기 제1전극과 반응하여 CO 가스로 제거될 수 있다.
상기 슬래그 중 Ca 성분은 상기 용강 중으로 유입되어 환원될 수 있다.
상기 Ca 성분은 상기 용강 중 황 성분과 반응하여 CaS를 생성할 수 있다.
상기 CaS는 슬래그에 포획되어 제거될 수 있다.
본 발명에 따르면, 별도의 첨가재를 사용하지 않고 슬래그의 염기도 및 산화도를 제어하여, 용강 중 개재물 및 불순원소를 용이하게 제거할 수 있다. 즉, 슬래그와 용강에 전류를 공급하여 슬래그에 분극 현상을 유도하여 슬래그와 용강의 계면에서 이온 교환을 통해 용강 중 개재물 및 불순원소를 슬래그에 포집할 수 있다. 또한, 슬래그 중 특정 성분을 용강 중으로 유입시켜 별도의 첨가재를 사용하지 않고도 용강의 성분을 조정할 수 있다.
또한, 첨가재 사용에 의해 용강의 청정도가 악화되는 것을 방지할 수 있고, 생산비용이 증가하는 것을 방지할 수 있다.

이하에서는 첨부된 도면을 참조하여 본 발명의 실시예를 더욱 상세히 설명하기로 한다. 그러나 본 발명은 이하에서 개시되는 실시예에 한정되는 것이 아니라 서로 다른 다양한 형태로 구현될 것이며, 단지 본 실시예들은 본 발명의 개시가 완전하도록 하며, 통상의 지식을 가진 자에게 발명의 범주를 완전하게 알려주기 위해 제공되는 것이다. 설명 중, 동일 구성에 대해서는 동일한 참조부호를 부여하도록 하고, 도면은 본 발명의 실시예를 정확히 설명하기 위하여 크기가 부분적으로 과장될 수 있으며, 도면상에서 동일 부호는 동일한 요소를 지칭한다.
도 1은 본 발명의 실시 예에 따른 용강 처리 장치를 개략적으로 보여주는 도면이고, 도 2는 전원공급모듈의 변형 예를 보여주는 도면이고, 도 3 및 도 4는 래들에 전원공급모듈을 설치한 상태를 보여주는 도면이다.
도 1을 참조하면, 본 발명의 실시 예에 따른 용강 처리 장치는, 용강의 탕면의 적어도 일부를 커버하도록 면적을 갖는 제1전극(110)과, 제1전극(110)과 전기적으로 분리되고, 적어도 일부가 용강에 침지되도록 제1전극(110)을 관통하며 상하방향으로 연장되도록 구비되는 제2전극(120)을 포함하는 전원공급모듈(100) 및 전원공급모듈(100)과 연결되는 전원부(140)를 포함할 수 있다. 이때, 전원공급모듈(100)은 하나의 유닛으로 형성될 수 있으며, 제1전극(110)과 제2전극(120)을 전기적으로 분리하기 위해서 제1전극(110)과 제2전극(120) 사이에 절연체(130)를 구비할 수 있다.
전원공급모듈(100)은 용강 상부에 부유하도록 설치될 수도 있고, 래들 커버 등과 같은 구조물에 설치될 수도 있다. 전자의 경우 도 3에 도시된 바와 같이 전원공급모듈(100)을 용강 상부에 투입하여 제1전극(110)은 슬래그 상부에 부유시키고, 제2전극(120)의 일부는 용강에 침지되도록 설치할 수 있다. 후자의 경우에는 도 4에 도시된 바와 같이, 래들 커버(12)에 전원공급모듈(100)을 연결하여 래들 커버(12)로 용강이 수용된 래들(10)을 덮으면, 제1전극(110)은 슬래그 상부에 배치시킬 수 있고, 제2전극(120)의 일부는 용강에 침지시킬 수 있다.
제1전극(110)은 제1전극은 일방향으로 연장되어 면적을 갖도록 형성될 수 있으며, 예컨대 용강의 탕면에 대응하는 원판형으로 형성될 수 있다. 이외에도 다양한 형상으로 형성될 수도 있지만, 넓은 영역에 걸쳐 슬래그에 분극을 유도할 수 있도록 용강의 탕면에 대응하는 형상으로 형성되는 것이 좋다. 또한, 제1전극(110)에는 제2전극(120)을 설치하기 위한 삽입구(112)가 형성될 수 있다. 삽입구(112)는 제1전극(110)을 상하방향으로 관통하도록 형성될 수 있으며, 예컨대 제1전극(110)의 중심부에 형성될 수 있다. 이는 제1전극(110)을 설치할 때 용강 상부 또는 슬래그 상부에서 제1전극(110)이 평형을 이루어 슬래그와의 접촉 면적을 증가시키기 위함이다.
제1전극(110)은 그 저면이 슬래그 표면과 접촉 가능하도록 설치되어 슬래그에 전원, 예컨대 전류를 공급할 수 있다. 이에 제1전극(110)은 전기전도도가 높고, 용손이 적으며, 슬래그와 반응을 하지 않는 흑연을 이용하여 제조될 수 있다. 이때, 전원공급모듈(100)을 별도의 구조물에 연결하지 않고 래들(10)에 투입한 경우, 제1전극(110)은 슬래그 상부에 부유한 상태를 유지해야 하기 때문에 슬래그의 비중보다 작은 재질로 형성하는 것이 바람직하다.
제2전극(120)은 제1전극(110)을 관통하며 상하방향으로 연장되는 바형상으로 형성될 수 있다. 제2전극(120)은 용강에 전원을 공급하기 위한 것으로 전기전도도가 높고, 용선이 적으며 용강과 반응하지 않는 재질로 형성될 수 있다. 이때, 제2전극(120)은 슬래그보다 높은 온도를 갖는 용강에 침지되므로 전기전도도를 갖는 내화물으로 형성되는 것이 좋다. 예컨대 제2전극(120)은 Al2O3(MgO)-C 재질로 형성될 수 있다.
절연체(130)는 제1전극(110)과 제2전극(120) 사이에 구비되어 제1전극(110)과 제2전극(120)을 전기적으로 분리하는 역할을 할 수 있다. 이때, 절연체(130)는 내부에 제2전극(120)을 수용할 수 있도록 중공형으로 형성되고, 전원을 공급받고 용강에 전원을 공급하기 위해 제2전극()을 노출시킬 수 있도록 상하부가 개방될 수 있다.
전원공급모듈(100)를 래들에 설치하는 경우 제1전극(110)은 슬래그 상부에 부유되지만, 제2전극(120)은 슬래그 상부로부터 용강에 걸쳐 배치될 수 있다. 따라서 제2전극(120)은 적어도 슬래그를 통과하는 영역에서 제1전극(110)과 전기적으로 분리되어야 하므로 절연체(130)의 길이(H)는 적어도 용강 상부에 형성되는 슬래그의 두께보다 길게 형성되는 것이 바람직하다.
전원공급모듈(100)은 이에 한정되지 않고 슬래그와 용강에 전원을 공급할 수 있는 다양한 구조로 형성될 수 있음은 물론이다. 예컨대 도 2의 (a)를 참조하면, 제2전극(120)은 용강과 접촉 면적을 증가시킬 수 있도록 하부에 제1전극(110)과 나란하게 배치되는 연장부(120a)를 포함할 수 있다.
또는, 도 2의 (b)에 도시된 바와 같이, 면적을 가지는 제1전극(110) 및 제2전극(120)이 상하방향으로 이격되도록 배치될 수 있다. 이때, 제1전극(110)과 제2전극(120)은 동일하거나 유사한 면적을 갖도록 형성될 수 있고, 절연체(130)에 의해 상호 연결될 수 있다. 이때, 절연체(130)의 길이, 즉 제1전극(110)과 제2전극(120)의 이격거리는 슬래그의 두께보다 길게 형성되는 것이 바람직하다. 또한, 전원공급모듈(100)의 설치를 용이하게 하기 위해서 제2전극(120)에는 복수의 관통구(122)가 형성될 수도 있다.
전원부(140)는 전원공급모듈(100) 즉, 제1전극(110)과 제2전극(120)과 전기적으로 연결되어 전류, 전압 등의 전원을 공급할 수 있다. 전원부(140)는 용강이 수용되는 래들(10)에 설치될 수도 있고, 별도의 처리장에 설치되어 운용될 수도 있다.
그리고 제1전극(110)과 제2전극(120)은 배선을 통해 전원부(140)와 각각 연결될 수 있다. 배선은 방열 피복을 실시한 탄소강이나 스테인레스강 재질이 사용될 수 있으며, 래들(10) 내 용강량의 변화에 따라 전원공급모듈(100)의 상하 이동이 가능하도록 신축 가능하게 형성될 수 있다.
이하에서는 본 발명의 실시 예에 따른 용강 처리 방법에 대해서 설명한다.
도 5는 본 발명의 실시 예에 따른 용강 처리 방법으로 용강을 처리하는 과정에서 발생하는 슬래그 분극 현상을 보여주는 도면이고, 도 6은 본 발명의 실시 예에 따른 용강 처리 방법으로 용강을 처리하는 과정에서 발생하는 계면 반응 모식도이다.
본 발명은 전로 정련 후 주조가 이루어지는 사이, 예컨대 2차 정련 후 용강을 이송하는 과정에서 적용될 수 있다. 본 발명은 슬래그에 전원을 인가하여 분극을 유도함으로써 슬래그의 산화도 및 염기도를 제어할 수 있다. 이에 슬래그와 용강 계면에서 이온 교환을 통해 용강 중 개재물과 불순원소를 슬래그 중으로 픽업시켜 제거할 수 있고, 용강의 성분 조정에 필요한 성분을 슬래그에서 용강으로 유입시켜 용강의 성분을 조정할 수 있다.
전로 정련이나 2차 정련이 완료된 용강이 마련되면, 용강(M)이 수용된 래들 내부에 전원공급모듈(100)을 설치한다. 이때, 제1전극(110)은 용강(M) 상부에 형성되는 슬래그(S)에 접촉시키고, 제2전극(120)의 일부, 즉 하부는 용강(M)에 침지되도록 한다.
전원공급모듈(100)이 설치되면, 배선을 이용하여 제1전극(110)과 제2전극(120)을 전원부(140)와 연결시킨다. 이때, 전원부(140)가 래들에 설치되어 있는 경우에는 전원공급모듈(100)과 전원부(140) 간의 연결 과정을 생략될 수 있다.
이후, 전원부(140)를 통해 전원공급모듈(100)에 전원을 인가한다. 이때, 제1전극(110)은 양극(+)으로, 제2전극(120)은 음극(-)이 되도록 전원, 예컨대 전압을 인가할 수 있다. 제1전극(110)이 배치된 슬래그 표면은 양극으로, 제2전극(120)이 침지되어 있는 용강은 음극이 될 수 있다. 그리고 슬래그와 접촉하는 용강 면이 전극과 전해질의 계면이 될 수 있다.
도 5 및 도 6을 참조하면, 전원부(140)에서 제1전극(110)과 제2전극(120)에 전압이 인가되는 경우, 슬래그 중에 불규칙하게 분포되어 있던 이온들은 극성에 따라 제1전극(110) 측과 제2전극(120) 측으로 이동하게 된다. 제1전극(110)과 제2전극(120)에 의해 대전된 전하와 전기적 중성도를 만족시키기 위해 이동된 이온은 전극 계면, 즉 슬래그와 용강의 계면에 집적된다. 이에 슬래그는 제1전극(110)이 위치한 상층부에는 음이온이, 제2전극(120)이 위치한 하층부에는 양이온이 집적되어 분극이 발생하게 된다.
이때, 슬래그에 함유되는 MnO, CaO, FeO 등은 Ca2 +, Fe2 +/3+, Mn2 +/3+ 이온과, 자유산소이온(O2-)로 이온화될 수 있다. 슬래그 중 자유 산소이온(O2-)은 흑연을 포함하는 제1전극(110)으로 이동하여 전기화학반응을 일으킴으로써 CO 가스형태로 제거될 수 있다. 그리고 자유 산소 이온에서 분리된 전자는 전원부(140)를 통해 용강으로 공급될 수 있다. 또한, Ca2 +, Fe2 +/3+, Mn2 +/3+ 이온은 제2전극(120)이 침지되어 있는 용강 측, 즉 슬래그와 용강의 계면으로 이동하게 된다. 이렇게 슬래그와 용강의 계면으로 이동한 Ca2 +, Fe2 +/3+, Mn2 +/3+ 이온들은 용강으로 공급되는 전자에 의해 환원 및 용해되어 Ca, Fe, Mn의 형태로 용강으로 유입될 수 있다.
이와 같은 반응으로 슬래그의 산화도에 영향을 미치는 MnO와 FeO가 감소하여 슬래그의 산화도를 저감시킬 수 있다. 또한, 슬래그의 염기도에 영향을 미치는 Ca2 +가 슬래그와 용강의 계면측에 집적되어 용강과 접촉하는 슬래그의 하층부에서 염기도를 선택적으로 증가시킬 수 있다. 이에 용강 중 Al2O3 등과 같은 개재물이 슬래그로 포집되어 용강 중 개재물을 저감시킬 수 있다.
또한, 용강으로 유입된 Ca 성분은 용강 중 황성분과 반응하여 CaS를 생성할 수 있다. 즉, 슬래그에서 용강으로 유입된 Ca 성분은 용강 중 황 성분을 제어하기 위해 투입되는 첨가재의 역할을 할 수 있다. Ca 성분 유입으로 인해 생성된 CaS는 슬래그로 포집되고, 이에 용강 중 황성분의 농도를 저감시킬 수 있다.
이하에서는 슬래그의 분극을 유도하여 얻어지는 효과를 검증하기 위한 실험 예에 대해서 설명한다.
도 7은 본 발명의 실시 예에 따른 용강 처리 방법으로 용강 중 황 농도를 제어한 실험 결과를 보여주는 그래프이다.
먼저, 슬래그 중 Ca 성분이 용강으로 유입되는 반응을 검증하기 위한 실험을 수행하였다.
실험은 용강 대신 Ca 성분을 4ppm 수준으로 함유하고 있는 용융 은을 사용하였고, CaO-SiO2-Al2O3-MgO 슬래그를 사용하였다.
실험 예1은 용융 은(Ag) 50g과 염기도가 1인 슬래그 25g을 도가니에 장입한 후 5시간 동안 유지하였다. 그 후 용융 은 중 Ca 성분의 함량을 측정하였다.
실험 예2는 용융 은 50g과 염기도가 3.2인 슬래그 25g을 도가니에 장입한 후 5시간 동안 5V의 전압을 인가하였다. 그 후 용융 은 중 Ca 성분의 함량을 측정하였다.
실험 예3은 용융 은 50g과 염기도가 3.2인 슬래그 25g을 도가니에 장입한 후 5시간 동안 10V의 전압을 인가하였다. 그 후 용융 은 중 Ca 성분의 함량을 측정하였다.
상기 실험 예1 내지 3에서 측정된 결과를 아래의 표 1에 나타내었다.

상기 표 1을 살펴보면, 실험 예1은 슬래그에 분극을 형성하지 않은 경우로서, 슬래그 중 Ca 성분이 용융 은으로 미량 유입된 것을 알 수 있다.
반면, 슬래그에 전압을 인가하여 분극을 형성한 실험 예2 및 3의 경우, 초기 용융 은에 함유된 Ca 성분의 양이 4ppm인 것을 감안하면 상당히 많은 양의 Ca 성분이 용융 은으로 유입된 것을 알 수 있다. 또한, 동일한 조건에서 슬래그에 인가되는 전압 크기가 큰 경우 Ca 성분의 유입량이 증가하는 것을 알 수 있다.
다음은 슬래그 분극을 통해 용강으로 유입된 Ca 성분이 용강 중 황 성분을 제어하는 효과를 검증하기 위한 실험을 수행하였다.
황 성분을 80ppm 정도 함유하고 있는 용강과, 염기도가 3.2인 CaO-SiO2-Al2O3-MgO 슬래그를 도가니에 장입하고, 도가니에 전원공급모듈을 설치하였다. 그리고 장입 초기에는 전원공급모듈에 전원을 인가하지 않고 그대로 유지하다가, 175분 경과한 시점으로부터 220분 동안(장입 후 395분) 10V의 전압을 인가하였다. 그리고 용강과 슬래그를 도가니에 장입한 이후부터 500분 동안 용강 중 황 농도를 측정하여 도 5에 나타내었다.
도 7을 참조하면, 도가니에 용강과 슬래그를 장입하고 전원공급모듈에 전압을 인가하기 전까지는 용강 중 황 농도가 완만하게 감소하고 있다. 그러나 전원공급모듈에 전압을 인가하면 용강 중 황 농도가 급격하게 감소하다가 전압 인가 후 약 200분 정도 경과하면 황 농도가 다시 증가하는 경향을 보이고 있다. 또한, 전원공급모듈에 인가되는 전압을 차단하면 용강 중 황 농도가 다시 급격하게 증가하는 것을 알 수 있다.
장입 초기에는 용강과 슬래그 간 계면 반응에 의해 슬래그 중 Ca 성분이 용강으로 유입되어 용강 중 황 농도가 완만하게 감소한다. 그러나 전원공급모듈에 전압을 인가하면 슬래그의 분극으로 Ca 이온이 슬래그와 용강 계면에 집적되고 이로 인해 Ca 성분의 유입량이 증가하여 용강 중 황 농도가 급격하게 감소한다. 그리고 전원공급모듈에 공급되는 전압이 차단되면, 전극 주변으로 이동해있던 이온들이 다시 불규칙하게 이동하면서 복황이 발생하여 용강 중 황 농도가 급격하게 증가하게 된다.
이와 같은 실험을 통해 래들 정련 시 슬래그와 용강에 전압을 인가하여 슬래그를 분극시키면 슬래그의 산화도 및 염기도를 제어하여 별도의 첨가재를 투입하지 않고도 용강 중 개재물 및 불순 원료의 제거와 성분 조정이 가능함을 알 수 있다.
이상에서 본 발명의 바람직한 실시예에 대하여 도시하고 설명하였으나, 본 발명은 상기한 실시예에 한정되지 아니하며, 청구범위에서 청구하는 본 발명의 요지를 벗어남이 없이 당해 본 발명이 속하는 분야에서 통상의 지식을 가진 자라면 이로부터 다양한 변형 및 균등한 타 실시예가 가능하다는 점을 이해할 것이다. 따라서, 본 발명의 기술적 보호범위는 아래의 특허청구범위에 의해서 정하여져야 할 것이다.
본 발명에 따른 용강의 처리 장치 및 이를 이용한 용강 처리 방법은, 별도의 첨가재를 사용하지 않고 슬래그의 염기도 및 산화도를 제어하여, 용강 중 개재물 및 불순원소를 용이하게 제거할 수 있다. 따라서 첨가재 사용에 의해 용강의 청정도가 악화되는 것을 방지할 수 있고, 첨가제 구매에 따른 생산비용의 증가를 방지할 수 있다.

Claims (16)

  1. 래들 정련에 사용되는 용강 처리 장치로서,
    제1전극과, 상기 제1전극과 전기적으로 분리되는 제2전극을 포함하는 전원공급모듈; 및
    상기 전원공급모듈에 연결되는 전원부;를 포함하는 용강 처리 장치.
  2. 청구항 1에 있어서,
    상기 제1전극은 면적을 갖는 플레이트 형상으로 형성되고,
    상기 제2전극은 상기 제1전극을 관통하며 상하방향으로 연장되도록 구비되며,
    상기 제1전극과 상기 제2전극 사이에는 절연체가 구비되는 용강 처리 장치.
  3. 청구항 2에 있어서,
    상기 제2전극의 하부에는 면적을 가지며 상기 제1전극과 나란하게 구비되는 연장부가 형성되는 용강 처리 장치.
  4. 청구항 1에 있어서,
    상기 제1전극과 상기 제2전극은 면적을 갖는 플레이트 형상으로 형성되고,
    상기 제1전극과 상기 제2전극 사이에 상기 제1전극과 상기 제2전극을 이격시키도록 절연체가 구비되는 용강 처리 장치.
  5. 청구항 1 내지 청구항 4 중 어느 한 항에 있어서,
    상기 제1전극은 용강의 상부에 형성되는 슬래그의 비중보다 작은 비중을 갖는 재료를 포함하는 용강 처리 장치.
  6. 청구항 5에 있어서,
    상기 제1전극은 흑연을 포함하는 용강 처리 장치.
  7. 청구항 6에 있어서,
    상기 제2전극은 Al2O3(MgO)-C를 포함하는 전도성 내화물을 포함하는 용강 처리 장치.
  8. 청구항 3 또는 청구항 4에 있어서,
    상기 절연체는 상기 용강 상부에 형성되는 슬래그의 두께보다 길게 형성되는 용강 처리 장치.
  9. 청구항 8에 있어서,
    상기 전원공급모듈은 상기 제1전극과 상기 제2전극의 일부를 래들 내부로 삽입할 수 있도록 래들 커버에 설치되는 용강 처리 장치.
  10. 용강 처리 방법으로서,
    용강 상부에 슬래그를 마련하는 과정;
    상기 슬래그의 적어도 일부에 제1전극을 접촉시키고, 상기 용강의 적어도 일부에 제2전극을 접촉시키는 과정;
    상기 제1전극과 상기 제2전극에 전압을 인가하여 상기 슬래그를 분극시키는 과정;
    을 포함하는 용강 처리 방법.
  11. 청구항 10에 있어서,
    상기 제1전극은 상기 슬래그에 부유시키고, 상기 제2전극의 적어도 일부는 상기 용강에 침지시키는 용강 처리 방법.
  12. 청구항 11에 있어서,
    상기 슬래그를 분극시키는 과정에서,
    상기 제1전극에는 양극을 연결하고, 상기 제2전극에는 음극을 연결하는 용강 처리 방법.
