Definitions
- the present invention relates to a two-dimensional X-ray detector incorporating a region of interest table for the region of interest and size so that the position and size of the region of interest can be changed every frame, a cone beam CT device using the same, and an operation method thereof.
- a tomography apparatus CT using X-rays uses a phenomenon in which X-rays are attenuated while X-rays penetrate an object. While the X-rays penetrate the object, the intensity is gradually weakened by physical phenomena such as photo electric effect and Compton scattering, and the degree of attenuation is changed by the object component and its physical density.
- An X-ray tomography image may be an image of an X-ray attenuation coefficient of an object component, and an X-ray attenuation coefficient generally increases with a higher density of a substance and a higher atomic number of a component of the substance.
- bone tissue or teeth of the human body have a higher X-ray attenuation coefficient than soft tissue (in general, the X-ray attenuation coefficient decreases as the energy of X-ray photons increases).
- a set of projection images obtained by irradiating X-rays to the human body at various angles is required, and the set of projection images is an X-ray source and an X-ray source. It is obtained by positioning the detector on one injection device and then rotating the injection device at an isometric angle.
- some tomography apparatuses fix the X-ray source and the X-ray detector and rotate the object (object) to obtain a set of projection images.
- the principle is the same.
- the process of sequentially acquiring the projection image at a constant angle is called a scan.
- X-ray CT using a single element type X-ray detector in an array is mainly used.
- the single element type X-ray detector has a large and thick form, and has the advantage of high X-ray sensitivity, and can arrange one-dimensional projection data at one scanning angle at a time by arranging in an arc, and using one rotation of the scanning device. An image of the cross section can be obtained.
- the single element type X-ray detector may arrange the X-ray detectors on a plurality of arcs to simultaneously acquire projection data for a plurality of cross sections, and acquire images of the plurality of cross sections with one rotation of the scanning apparatus.
- Multi-ring CT is generally used because it can shorten the scanning time per section compared to single-ring CT.
- the multi-ring CT shortens the imaging time of the X-ray CT and combines the helical scanning function to enable 3D tomography.
- the multi-ring CT has a disadvantage in that the scanning device must be rotated several times for helical scanning, and in order to acquire a three-dimensional image by only one rotation of the scanning device, the number of detector rings must be at least several hundred. Therefore, there was an economic problem.
- the technology of the two-dimensional surface detector has been developed and commercialized.
- the number of pixels in the two-dimensional plane detector has evolved to more than millions, and the development of digital radiography, which is digital X-ray imaging, has also become common.
- CT technology has been developed according to the development of the two-dimensional surface detector, which is commonly referred to as cone-beam CT.
- Examples are dental CT and micro CT.
- the cone beam CT acquires the projection image with the 2D plane detector, it is possible to reconstruct the 3D tomography image by only one rotation of the scanning apparatus. Therefore, in order to increase the resolution of the CT image, the pixel size of the X-ray detector must be small, and the total size of the detector must be large enough to contain a target object. There are more than 10,000.
- the number of data bits of one pixel is generally 16 bits, and one projection image is 100M bits or more.
- the data is transmitted at a transmission rate of 1 Gbps, theoretically, less than 10 images are collected per second. .
- GigE or Camera Link and USB are generally used as transmission channels of the 2D X-ray detector.
- the physical transmission rates of these channels are about 1.0 to 5.0 Gbps, and in the case of a commercial detector having a resolution of 2600 ⁇ 2600 as an example, GigE If you use the channel, you can collect about 7 images per second and Camera Link to collect about 15 images per second. Therefore, since CT imaging photographs about 450 or more images while rotating one rotation, a recording time of 30 seconds or more is required in the case of 15 images per second.
- binning which increases the pixel size by combining adjacent pixel data such as 2 ⁇ 2, 4 ⁇ 4, 8 ⁇ 8, and 16 ⁇ 16.
- the number of projection images per second can be increased.
- the conventional method is a method for lowering the resolution fundamentally and is not suitable for a high resolution CT system, a method capable of performing high speed photography at high resolution while overcoming current transmission speed limitations is needed.
- An object of the present invention is to provide a two-dimensional X-ray detector capable of dynamically setting a region of interest capable of performing high-speed imaging of a CT apparatus by overcoming a limitation of a transmission speed of projection data, a cone beam CT apparatus including the same, and an operation method thereof I would like to.

- the cone beam CT apparatus has an X-ray source 110 on one side of the object 100 and a two-dimensional X-ray detector 120 on the opposite side thereof. Or projection data 130.
- X-rays radiated from the X-ray source 110 are limited by a collimator installed at the exit of the X-ray source 110, and generally, may be limited based on the size of different detectors in the horizontal and vertical directions of the viewing angle. .
- the reason for limiting the size of the beam is to reduce the x-ray dose irradiated to the object 100 by limiting X-ray irradiation only within a field of view to be photographed.
- the X-ray source 110 and the two-dimensional X-ray detector 120 may be configured to rotate and translate, and may have a rotational motion of 1 degree of freedom and a translational motion of a degree of freedom of 1 (linear motion).
- center of rotation of the X-ray source 110 may exist on a translational axis Axis of the X-ray source 110.
- the X-ray source 110 and the 2D X-ray detector 120 may be configured to face each other and may be rotated at a constant speed about the object 100.
- the X-ray source 110 and the 2D X-ray detector 120 may be fixed, and the projection image 130 may be obtained by rotating the object 100.
- the X-ray source 110 and the 2D X-ray detector may be obtained.
- the principle of the projection image 130 projected by the rotation of 120 or the rotation of the object 100 is the same.
- Means the viewing angle in the horizontal direction Means the viewing angle in the vertical direction.
- the cone beam CT device In order to reconstruct the tomography image of the object 100, the projection image from various angles according to the horizontal and vertical viewing angles must be acquired, and thus the cone beam CT device has an X-ray source 110 and a two-dimensional X-ray around a rotation center axis.

- the cone beam CT apparatus may acquire a plurality of projection data in a unit scan angle which is a scan angle adjacent to the rotation center axis 203 and a rotation amount that rotates at the scan angle.
- the number of projection data in the cone beam CT apparatus is generally determined at 1000 or less, but may be more or less depending on the embodiment.
- the cone beam CT apparatus obtains a projection data set ⁇ p i (s, t) ⁇ according to scanning every frame, and may calculate a 3D tomography image f (x, y, z) from the projection data set.
- f 3D tomography image
- (x, y, z) means a 3D spatial coordinate in the object 100 as shown in FIG. 1.
- a high-quality tomography image can be obtained, and an image reconstruction method is used to acquire a tomography image from the projection data set obtained from the cone beam CT device.
- the image reconstruction method applies a method of spatially filtering the projection data and then performing back-projection.
- a cone beam CT device uses a Feldkamp algorithm as a filtered back-projection extended in three dimensions. Filtered back-projection image reconstruction is widely used because of its good spatial resolution and high-speed operation, but an iterative reconstruction algorithm can be applied in addition to this method.
- the cone beam CT apparatus needs to use a two-dimensional X-ray detector 202 having a small pixel size and a high resolution and a large number of pixels in order to acquire a high resolution image.
- the 2D X-ray detector 202 of the conventional cone beam CT device has a limitation in processing speed due to the huge amount of projection data for obtaining high resolution, and has a limitation in low transmission speed.
- the 2D X-ray detector sets a region-of-interest (ROI) in order to reduce the amount of projection data and processes the data for the region outside of the interest. I use it.
- ROI region-of-interest
- the amount of projection data is reduced to 1/9, and per second.
- the number of projected images can be increased by nine times, reducing the shooting time to 1/9.
- the projection data for the entire object 200 may not be obtained, and a problem may occur that only the ROI projection data is acquired as the 3D image.
