Detailed description of the invention
Figure 1 shows the prior art solution, where a loft bed comprises a bed frame 10, a bed rail 20, and four bed posts. Each bed post comprises a bottom part 1 10 and an upper part 120. The upper part 120 comprises bolt or screw holes 124, 126 adapted for receiving a bolt or screw for securing the bed frame 10 and the bed rail 20 to the upper part 120. The bolt or screw holes 124, 126 runs transversely to the longitudinal direction of the upper part 120, and have an inlet on the outer faces of the upper part 120, and an outlet on the opposing surface side. The bottom part 1 10 and the upper part 120 are connected in line by an elongate member (not shown) adapted for being positioned partly within a channel of the bottom part 1 10, and partly within a channel of the upper part 120. The elongate member comprises a bolt or screw hole in each end, which run transversely to the longitudinal direction of the elongate member. The bottom part 1 10 and the upper part 120 of the bed post each comprise a bolt or screw hole 1 12, 122, which run transversely to the longitudinal direction of the bottom part 1 10 and upper part 120, respectively, and terminates in the channel. A screw or bolt is inserted into the screw or bolt holes 1 12 or 122, and further into the bolt or screw hole of the elongate member positioned within the channel, thereby securing the bottom part 1 10, the elongate member, and the upper part 120 to each other. This configuration results in left and right bed posts.
Figure 2 shows the solution of the present invention, where a loft bed comprises a bed frame 10, a bed rail 20, and four bed posts 100. Each bed post 100 comprises a bottom part 1 10, a bed rail connecting part 130, and a bed frame connecting part 120. The bottom part 1 10, the bed rail connecting part 130, and the bed frame connecting part 120 are connected in line by two elongate members (not shown). The first of the elongate members is adapted for being positioned partly within a channel (running parallel to the longitudinal direction of the bottom part 1 10) in the upper part of the bottom part 1 10 and partly within a channel (running parallel to the longitudinal direction of the bed frame connecting part 120) positioned in the lower part of the bed frame connecting part 120. The second of the elongate members is adapted for being positioned partly within a channel (running parallel to the longitudinal direction of the bed frame connecting part 120) in the upper part of bed frame connecting part 120 and partly within a channel (running parallel to the longitudinal direction of the bed rail connecting part 130) in the lower part of the bed rail connecting part 130.
Figure 3 shows a disassembled elongate member 140 comprising a first part 142 and a second part 146. The first part 142 comprises a bolt or screw hole 143, which runs transversely to the longitudinal direction of the first part 142, and a threaded channel 144, which runs parallel to the longitudinal direction of the first part 142. The second part 146 comprises a bolt or screw hole 147, which runs transversely to the longitudinal direction of the second part 146, and a threaded shaft 148 adapted to engage with the threaded channel 144 of the first part 142. This configuration allows for adjusting the distance between bolt or screw holes 143, 147. Optional washers 149 adapted for being positioned around the threaded shaft 148 is also shown. The washers 149 strengthen the connection between the first part 142 and the second part 146 if a gap is needed to adjust the distance between bolt or screw holes 143, 147.
Figure 4 shows the marked section of the loft bed in Figure 2 as a view of the outer faces (left), and a view of the inner faces (right). As can be seen, no bolt or screw holes are present on the outer faces, which markedly increases the esthetic expression of the loft bed. Furthermore, all bed poles are identical, thereby avoiding production of left and right bed poles, and making it much easier to assemble the loft bed.
To fasten the elongate member to the bed post parts, bolts or screws are positioned through fastened through bolt or screw holes in the bed post parts and bolt or screw holes in the elongate member. In Figure 4, the bolt or screw holes 122, 132 are shown. They run transversely to the
longitudinal direction of the bed post part 120, 130, respectively, and terminate in the channel of the bed post part 120, 130, respectively.
In Figure 5, the bed frame connecting part 120 and the bed rail connecting part 130 are partly disconnected, thereby showing the first part 142 of the elongate member with a bolt or screw hole 143 that when the two bed post parts are completely assembled is aligned with the bolt or screw holes 132 of the bed rail connecting part 130.
Figure 6 shows an assembled elongate member 140 comprising a first part 142, a second part 146, and washers 149. Two different types of screws or bolts 150, 151 are inserted into the bolt or screw holes.
Figure 7 shows the bed rail connecting part 130 stripped from the
connecting bed rail panels, thereby revealing the fastening means 133 (elongate member with a bolt or screw hole), 134 (dowel). The fastening means 131 , 132 are positioned in channels that terminate within the bed rail connecting part 130. Corresponding channels 123, 125 are present in the bed frame connecting part 120, as shown in Figure 8. References
