Description
METHOD FOR HIGH-PRECISION DECORATIVE PROCESSING OF VINYL, PLASTIC OR WOODEN SURFACES WITH HIGH ENERGY CONCENTRATION DEVICE
This utility model relates to methods for high-precision decorative processing of non-metallic surfaces, namely plastic, vinyl and wooden surfaces by applying electrophysical processing of materials, in particular with the use of a high energy concentration device which can be a laser cutting machine, power jigsaw, soldering device, etc.
A method, device and system for ultrashort pulse laser processing of optically transparent glass materials are known. The invention relates to ultrashort pulse laser processing of optically transparent glass materials, including material scribing, welding and marking. The object of this invention is the generation of models and patterns in transparent glass materials by focusing ultrashort laser pulses below the surface. [Application US 20160067822, date of filing 13.08.2015]
The disadvantage of known method is that this method can be applied to transparent glass materials only, and there is no possibility to decorate other non- metallic surfaces.
Known and closest to the proposed utility model is a method of creating decorative items, namely clocks, which includes gluing paper stencil on vinyl record, removing excess paper that goes beyond the record, cutting out pattern contour with a hand jigsaw, cutting out the center hole for further setting the clock mechanism into there, grinding using a mini grinder or a set of needle files of all the cuts made on the vinyl record, removing the glued-on paper stencil with a damp sponge, setting the clock mechanism into the central cut out hole of the vinyl record [Decorative clock made of vinyl record, http://maister-klas.pp.ua/601-dekorativn-godinnik-z-vnlovoyi-platvki-vak- zrobiti-samostyno.htmll.
Disadvantages of the known method are the following: l
- poor precision, imperfect clearness and roughness of cuts due to the use hand jigsaw and grinding with a mini grinder or a set of needle files;
- inability to cut out high-precision and highly complex patterns or ornaments;
- high labor input due to gluing paper stencil on vinyl record, hand cutting of pattern and subsequent removal of paper stencil and glue from the record;
- inability to use the method for mass production of items.
A task to develop a method for high-precision decorative processing of vinyl, plastic or wooden surfaces using a high energy concentration device in which through the use of a known high energy concentration device, namely laser cutting machine, power jigsaw, soldering device, etc. and due to the fact that the images are created in the graphics editor with their further transfer to high energy concentration device's memory block, and due to its actual work in the claimed method and the sequence of actions performed the generation of high-precision, clear and smooth cuts with no flaws and roughness; the possibility of cutting out highly complex patterns or ornaments, and as a result, a significant reduction in the method's labor input and the possibility of applying this method in mass production are achieved, was set as the basis of utility model.
The task set as the basis of utility model was solved by creating a method for high-precision decorative processing of vinyl, plastic or wooden surfaces using a high energy concentration device, which is performed consistently over time and includes such stages as preparing a design layout of the image, applying the image on the workpiece of the chosen material (vinyl, plastic or wood), direct cutting of the workpiece of the chosen material according to prepared design layout with a high energy concentration device, final cleaning of surface of the product obtained, wherein the design layout of image is created on a computer in a bitmap graphics editor (Adobe Photoshop, GIMP, Photofiltre, Paint.NET, etc.) with subsequent conversion of the image from the bitmap to vector format, while a computer is connected to high energy concentration device by connecting the cable to appropriate connectors on computer and on high energy concentration device (USB, Ethernet, etc.), or by any other possible way (WiFi, AirPort, etc.) and the direct cutting of the workpiece of the chosen material (vinyl, plastic or wood) is carried out with high energy concentration device which is a
laser cutting machine, power jigsaw, soldering device, etc., while the lamp power of which should be at least 98 W and the cutting speed at least 25 mm/s.
The proposed utility model is explained by an example of manufacturing a decorative clock of a vinyl record using laser cutting machine.
First, laser cutting machine is connected to a computer via cable through the appropriate USB slots. Image design is made on a computer in any bitmap editor (Adobe Photoshop, GIMP, Photofiltre, Paint.NET, etc). A bitmap image is obtained which is an array of color dots (pixels). Then, bitmap image obtained is converted to vector format. Unlike bitmap, vector image consists of a set of geometric primitives (points, lines, curves, polygons) - objects that can be described by mathematical expressions. For laser cutting the image is made using any two colors. Then, vector image is aligned by guides, which in turn are designed for precision of image placement and determining its dimensions. After that, vector image by executing defined commands on the computer (e.g. by pressing appropriate buttons on the input device) is converted to the contour image, which is transferred to a memory block of laser cutting machine.
Then, vinyl record is placed on a work field of laser cutting machine. In order for laser cutting machine to start cutting out an image on the vinyl record a Corel Draw editor is launched on the computer by executing the defined commands (e.g. by pressing the appropriate buttons on the input device), the image to be applied on the record is prepared, the parameters are configured by executing the defined commands (e.g. by pressing the appropriate buttons on the input device), namely following: laser cutting machine lamp power must be set to at least 98 W, and the cutting speed to at least 25 mm/s. Next, the image is transferred to a memory block of laser cutting machine by executing defined commands (e.g. by pressing appropriate buttons on the input device) on the computer. Laser cutting machine is configured to the following parameters: laser carriage is set to zero (0) and the desired focal height of cutting is selected. After pressing a button starting the execution of a defined command (e.g. START button), laser cutting machine cuts out the selected image on vinyl record. Once the machine has ended its work, vinyl record is cleaned of dust formed during the cutting. Vinyl record has a circular hole at its center through which any clock mechanism (quartz, mechanical, etc.) is fixed. Decorative product, in our case - the clock, is finished.
The essence of the proposed method is explained by presented figures which show examples of decorative products, namely the clocks:
Fig.1 shows a design layout of the image that will be further transferred to the product;
Fig. 2, Fig. 3 and Fig. 4 show finished products made using the proposed method;
Unlike known method of creating decorative products, namely clocks, a known high energy concentration of device, namely laser cutting machine, was used in the proposed utility model, through the use of which the formation of cut roughness, poor precision and imperfect clearness of cuts on a processed material (in our case - a vinyl record) were completely eliminated. It is through the use of laser cutting machine in the proposed utility model one is able to cut out highly complex images, patterns and/or ornaments on vinyl, plastic or wooden surfaces. And it is because an image, according to utility model claimed, is created in graphics editors and then transferred to memory block of a laser cutting machine, actual machine work and due to the proposed sequence of actions performed a high labor input was excluded additionally, thereby making it possible to implement the method proposed in utility model in mass production.
Thus, the task to develop a method for high-precision decorative processing of vinyl, plastic or wooden surfaces using a high energy concentration device in which through the use of a known high energy concentration device, namely laser cutting machine, power jigsaw, soldering device, etc. and due to the fact that the images are created in the graphics editor with their further transfer to high energy concentration device's memory block, and due to its actual work in the claimed method and the sequence of actions performed the generation of high-precision, clear and smooth cuts with no flaws and roughness; the possibility of cutting out highly complex patterns or ornaments, and as a result, a significant reduction in the method's labor input and the possibility of applying this method in mass production are achieved, set as the basis of utility model was solved.
