- the preset discharge time and the preset idle time are values related to the characteristics of the battery 20 being charged, and are determined in consideration of the time required to stabilize the chemical reaction of the battery 20. Details thereof will be described later.
- FIG. 2 is a graph showing a change in internal temperature of a battery being charged with a constant current-constant voltage.
- the horizontal axis represents the charging time t of the battery 20 and the vertical axis represents the value of the internal temperature T of the battery 20.
- the temperature change inside the battery 20 is shown according to the charging time.
- the battery 20 is charged by the constant current-constant voltage charging method.
- Constant current charging is a method in which an external charging device (200 in FIG. 5) applies a constant current to the battery 20 to charge the battery 20, and constant voltage charging is performed by an external charging device (200 in FIG. 5).
- 20 is a method of charging the battery 20 by applying a constant voltage.
- the constant current-constant voltage charging method the battery 20 is charged with a constant current, and when the voltage of the battery 20 reaches a predetermined voltage, for example, the voltage of the battery 20 reaches 4.1V, the battery 20 is charged with a constant voltage. That's how.
- the battery 20 generates heat during charging, and the magnitude of the constant current and the amount of heat are proportional to each other.
- the heat generation of the battery 20 is severe in the constant current charging step having a relatively large current magnitude.
- the constant current charging step as the charging time of the battery 20 elapses, the internal temperature of the battery 20 increases.
- the magnitude of the current applied to the battery 20 decreases, and the internal temperature of the battery 20 gradually decreases.
- the temperature of the battery 20 rises steeply.
- Part A is a part where the temperature rises rapidly and includes a point S at which the internal temperature of the battery 20 being charged is the highest.
- the battery 20 being charged may be most actively generated gas inside the A portion.
- the internal resistance increases due to the phase change of the internal materials of the battery 20 or the internal electrons rushing to the negative electrode and side reaction with the electrolyte, so that the portion A, which is a sudden temperature rise period, may appear.
- the A portion may appear in a specific state of charge (SOC) of the battery 20, the point (S) where the internal temperature of the battery 20 is the highest in the secondary battery, such as lithium ion or lithium polymer.
- SOC of the battery has a value between 60 and 80%.
- the battery 20 When the battery 20 is repeatedly charged and discharged, gas is generated in the battery 20, and swelling is performed in the battery 20. As the temperature of the battery 20 increases, the amount of gas generated in the battery 20 also increases. In particular, when the battery 20 is charged or discharged at a high temperature, generation of gas in the battery 20 is activated, and swelling of the battery 20 is accelerated. In particular, the battery 20 being charged is rapidly rising in temperature at the portion A. Part A is a portion in which the internal temperature of the battery 20 is rapidly rising, and a portion in which gas is most actively generated in the battery 20 being charged. Therefore, by lowering the temperature rise rate of the portion A, the swelling progress of the battery 20 can be reduced, and the life of the battery 20 can be improved.
- the preset discharge time and the preset idle time may be determined according to the properties of the material included in the battery cell 23. For example, when the charge of the battery 20 continues, cations such as lithium, which are materials included in the battery cell 23, and electrons are not disposed at the anode of the battery cell 23 in a balanced manner. This is due to the difference in the moving speed of the cation such as lithium and the electron.
- the preset discharge time is set in consideration of the time when the electrons and the lithium cation can be evenly distributed on the positive electrode of the battery cell 23, and the preset idle time is the chemical reaction inside the battery. It may be set in consideration of the time taken for stabilization, for example, the time for which side reactions can be reduced.
- the lithium ion battery 20 may suitably set the predetermined discharge time to 10 seconds to 30 seconds and the predetermined pause time to 10 seconds to 60 seconds.
- FIG. 3 briefly illustrates an internal configuration of a battery pack according to another embodiment.

- the battery 20 pack may include a plurality of temperature sensors 140 and may be equal to the number of battery cells 23.
- the temperature sensor 140 transmits the information about the detected temperature of the battery 20 to the battery manager 110. Meanwhile, the temperature sensor 140 may include a thermistor having a resistance value that varies with ambient temperature. The temperature sensor 140 may include a thermistor having a negative temperature coefficient at which the resistance value decreases as the ambient temperature increases, and may include a thermistor having a positive temperature coefficient at which the resistance value increases as the ambient temperature increases.
- the battery manager 110 may determine a change in the internal temperature of the battery 20.
- the battery manager 110 monitors the internal temperature of the battery 20 every hour through the information transmitted by the temperature sensor 140. Meanwhile, the battery manager 110 may further include a storage unit that stores a temperature of the inside of the battery 20.

- the battery manager 110 may compare the temperature increase rate of the battery 20 with the preset value.
- the preset value is set to detect the portion A described with reference to FIG. 2 through the temperature increase rate of the battery 20. That is, the predetermined value may be set in consideration of the temperature increase rate of the A portion of the battery 20. For example, if the temperature increase rate of the A portion having the largest internal temperature increase rate of the battery 20 being charged is about 2 degrees per second, the preset value may be set to a value of 2 degrees or more.
- the battery manager 110 may monitor the temperature increase rate of the battery 20 when the battery 20 starts constant current charging.
- the battery manager 110 may determine that the preset swelling condition described with reference to FIG. 1 is satisfied when the temperature increase rate of the battery 20 is equal to or greater than the preset value.
- the battery manager 110 applies a control signal to turn off the charge switch SW1 to the charge switch SW1 and the cell.
- the control signal for operating the balancing device 130 is applied to the cell balancing device 130. In this case, the battery 20 stops charging and starts self-discharging through the cell balancing device 130.
- the battery manager 110 stops the operation of the cell balancing device 130.
- the battery manager 110 stabilizes the internal material of the battery 20 by allowing the battery 20 to be in the idle state for the preset idle time described with reference to FIG. 2.

For example, when the preset value is 0.2 degrees / second and the preset time is 1 minute, the battery manager 110 may measure 0.2 degrees / minute for 1 minute when the temperature increase rate of the battery 20 becomes 0.2 degrees / second. You can detect if it is more than a second. The battery manager 110 does not immediately stop charging the battery 20 even if the temperature increase rate of the battery 20 has a value of 0.2 degrees / second or more. The battery manager 110 stops charging the battery 20 when the temperature increase rate of the battery 20 is 0.2 degree / sec or more for 1 minute.
- FIG. 4 briefly illustrates an internal configuration of a battery pack according to another embodiment.
- the battery 20 pack includes a battery 20, a charge switch SW1, a discharge switch SW2, a battery manager 110, and a cell balancing device 130.
- the battery 20, the charge switch SW1, the discharge switch SW2, and the cell balancing device 130 include the battery 20, the charge switch SW1, the discharge switch SW2, and the cell balancing device described with reference to FIG. 1. Substantially the same bar as 130, the description is omitted.
- the battery manager 110 may detect a state of charge (SOC) of the battery 20.
- the battery manager 110 may estimate the state of charge of the battery 20 through a voltage change by a current integration method or a DC-IR. That is, the battery manager 110 may estimate the SOC value of the battery 20 based on the detected voltage or current value of the battery 20.
- the battery manager 110 may determine the state of charge of the battery 20 by measuring the voltage of the battery 20. - the battery manager 110 may determine whether the state of the battery 20 satisfies a swelling condition set in advance based on the estimated SOC value of the battery 20.
- the battery manager 110 outputs a control signal for turning off the charging switch SW1 and a control signal for operating the cell balancing device 130.
- the battery manager 110 may allow the battery 20 to stop charging and discharge the battery. for example.
- the preset SOC value is 65%
- the battery manager 110 estimates and monitors the SOC value of the battery 20 to determine whether the SOC value of the battery 20 being charged is 65%.
- the battery manager 110 stops charging the battery 20 and discharges it through the cell balancing device 130 as described above. On the other hand, the battery manager 110 does not discharge or stop the battery 20 even when the SOC of the battery 20 is 65% when the charging of the battery 20 resumes after the battery 20 is discharged and rested.
- the battery manager may limit the determination of the swelling condition according to the SOC to one time according to the number of charges.
- the battery manager 110 may use a method such as checking whether the SOC value of the battery 20 reaches 65% after a predetermined time after discharging and stopping the battery 20.
- the preset SOC value may be set based on part A described with reference to FIG. 2.
- the portion A appears at a specific SOC value due to the characteristics of the internal material of the battery 20 or the charging environment.
- the A portion appears at an SOC value of 60% or more.
- the predetermined SOC value may be set to any value between 60% and 70%.
- the secondary battery such as lithium polymer has an SOC value of 60 to 70%
- phase transition of the internal material constituting the battery 20 is actively performed. As the phase transition occurs, the internal temperature of the battery 20 may increase rapidly. In consideration of this, it is possible to predict a section in which the internal temperature of the battery 20 rapidly rises as the SOC value of the battery 20 without monitoring the internal temperature increase rate of the battery 20.
- the battery manager 110 may set the temperature rising rate detected by the temperature sensor 140 as described above with reference to FIG. 3 and the state of charge SOC of the battery 20 is greater than or equal to the predetermined SOC value. When the value is greater than or equal to, it may be determined that the swelling condition is satisfied. The internal temperature of the battery 20 which is being charged may increase temporarily. If the battery 20 is temporarily discharged and paused until the temperature of the battery 20 rises temporarily, the total charging time of the battery 20 may increase. Therefore, in order to discharge and pause the portion A described with reference to FIG. 2, the battery manager 110 increases the temperature increase rate of the battery 20 when the estimated SOC value of the battery 20 becomes equal to or greater than the preset SOC value. May be considered.

- the battery manager 110 stops the battery 20 for the preset idle time to stabilize the internal material of the battery 20.
- the battery manager 110 turns on the charge switch SW1 to resume charging the battery 20.
- the battery manager 110 may determine that the preset swelling condition described with reference to FIG. 1 is satisfied.
- the preset voltage may be set to a voltage corresponding to portion A described with reference to FIG. 2.
- the battery manager 110 monitors the voltage of the battery 20 and temporarily stops charging the battery 20 when the preset voltage is reached.
- the battery manager 110 discharges the battery 20 during the preset discharge time described with reference to FIG.
- the battery manager 110 resumes charging the battery 20 when the preset idle time elapses.
- the battery manager 110 may vary the preset voltage value according to the number of charge / discharge cycles of the battery 20. As the number of charge / discharge cycles of the battery 20 increases, the battery 20 deteriorates. As the battery 20 deteriorates, the portion A is positioned at a value at which the voltage of the battery 20 is greater. Therefore, when the number of charge / discharge cycles of the battery 20 increases, the battery manager 110 changes the preset voltage value to a larger value. For example, when the predetermined voltage value at the beginning of manufacturing the battery 20 is 4.1 V, the battery manager 110 may vary the voltage to 4.15 V when the number of charge / discharge cycles of the battery 20 is 100 times. The battery manager 110 may vary the voltage to 4.18V when the number of charges and discharges of the battery 20 is 200 times.
