- Further included in the head-mounted display are means for segmenting the visual image based on the spatial relationship to generate a segmented image that includes the one or more physical objects and means for displaying a virtual image with the head-mounted display.
- the head-mounted display further includes means for overlaying the segmented image on the virtual image to display both the virtual image and the one or more physical objects captured by the visual camera.

- sensor 107 includes a motion sensor to provide movement and/or orientation information which is independent of motion data that may be derived from visual images 103 and/or depth information 105.
- the sensor 107 may include an accelerometer (e.g., a MEMS device), a gyroscope, a geomagnetic sensor (e.g., a compass), an altimeter (e.g., a barometric pressure altimeter), and/or any other type of movement detection sensor.
- the sensor 107 may include a plurality of different types of devices and combine their outputs in order to provide motion information.
- FIG. 4 is a flowchart illustrating a process 400 of utilizing spatial relationships for the integration of visual images of a physical environment into virtual reality according to one or more implementations of the technology described herein.
- Process 400 is one possible process performed by HMD 100 of FIG. 1 and/or HMD 204 of FIG. 2.
- FIG. 5 illustrates a process of integrating a visual image of a physical object into a virtual image based on a spatial relationship between a user and the physical object according to one or more implementations of the technology described herein.
