Description
The present invention relates to a household appliance which can connect to a wireless local area network (WLAN).
Today, there is a wireless local area network in almost every home. The wireless local area networks created by means of modems enable electronic devices, especially smartphones and computers, to connect to the Internet. Furthermore, there are household appliances that can connect to the wireless local area network inside the house by means of a card provided thereon. Thus, the household appliances can be controlled by the user by means of electronic devices such as smartphones and tablets that are suitable for installing applications. That the household appliance can be remotely controlled provides advantages and convenience to the user. The user can operate the household appliance when he/she is not at home. The user can control all the household appliances from a single point inside the house, thus providing savings in time. The home appliances must pass through several security steps in order to communicate with devices such as tablets and cellular phones and to connect to the home network. The devices such as cellular phones and tablets can join the network by using the network name and entering the security password. However, the household appliances do not have a keyboard for entering a password. Since small household appliances are desired to have dimensions as small as possible, providing a touch screen thereon is not an option. In the state of the art embodiments, an access point is provided on the household appliance. The cellular phone or the tablet is enabled to connect to the access point and in subsequent steps, the household appliance is enabled to connect to the network. The users find this method inconvenient since it is very time consuming. When a network password is not used, the household appliance can be controlled by other people.
In the state of the art European Patent Application Document No. EP1526418, a household appliance wherein the information related to the failure can be obtained by communicating with the light source is disclosed.
The aim of the present invention is the realization of a household appliance that is enabled to join a wireless local area network by means of a secure and simple method.
The household appliance realized in order to attain the aim of the present invention, explicated in the first claim and the respective claims thereof, comprises a network card that enables the household appliance to join the local area network and a control card that enables the necessary functions to be performed. By means of an electronic sensor that operates as connected to the control card, the light can be identified by reading the wavelengths.
The household appliance of the present invention comprises the electronic sensor that detects the light signal sent by an appliance connected to the network and the control card that identifies the light detected by the electronic sensor as the security information that is necessary for joining the network. The light signals are detected by the electronic sensor and transmitted to the control card. Thus, the household appliance can join the local area network.
In an embodiment of the present invention, the household appliance comprises a first processing unit that operates as connected to the control card and enables the light detected by the electronic sensor to be converted to the security information.
In an embodiment of the present invention, the security information is converted into light signals by means of the processing unit (S) and transmitted to the sensor. The light signals transmitted from the electronic sensor to the control card is identified as the security information by the first processing unit. The security information such as the user name and the password required for joining the network is transmitted as light in different wavelengths.
In an embodiment of the present invention, the electronic sensor comprises a filter. The filter allows only the passage of lights having with wavelengths. Thus, the security information that is transmitted using light is decoded.
In an embodiment of the present invention, the light signals are transmitted by the portable electronic device.
In an embodiment of the present invention, the household appliance comprises the electronic sensor that enables the security information received from the first processing unit to be transmitted to the network card.
The household appliance with improved security realized in order to attain the aim of the present invention is illustrated in the attached figures, where:
Figure 1 - is the schematic view of the joining process of the household appliance to the local area network.
Figure 2 - is the schematic view of the household appliance.
Figure 3 - is the schematic view of the control card, the network card and the electronic sensor.
The elements illustrated in the figures are numbered as follows:
- Household appliance
- Network card
- Control card
- Electronic sensor
- First processing unit
- Filter
A household appliance (1) comprises a network card (2) that provides the connection to the wireless local area network, a control card (3) that communicates with the network card (2) and manages the functions, and an electronic sensor (4) that operates as connected to the control card (3). The household appliance (1) connects to the home network created by means of the modem (M). The household appliance (1) performs the functions thereof by means of the control card (3). The electronic sensor (4) disposed on the control card (3) provides the detection of the light signals.
The household appliance (1) of the present invention comprises the electronic sensor (4) that detects the light signal transmitted by an appliance (C) connected to the network and the control card (3) that uses the light information received from the electronic sensor (4) as the security information that is necessary for joining the network. The security information that is necessary for joining the network, such as the network name and the password, is transmitted as the light signals. The light signals are detected by the electronic sensor (4).
In an embodiment of the present invention, the control card (3) comprises a first processing unit (5) that enables the light signals detected by the electronic sensor (4) to be processed. The security information transmitted as light signals is detected by the electronic sensor (4) and transmitted to the first processing unit (5). The detected light signals are decoded by the first processing unit (5). Thus, the security information necessary for joining the network is obtained.
In an embodiment of the present invention, the household appliance (1) comprises the electronic sensor (4) to which the security information is transmitted as light signals encoded by the processing unit (S) of a device (C) connected to the local area network, and the control unit (3) that has the first processing unit (5) that enables the light signals detected by the electronic sensor (4) to be identified. The security information is transmitted to the household appliance (1) as the light signals by means of the processing unit (S) disposed on the device (C) that is connected to the network and that provides the light signal. The light signals may have different wavelengths. Thus, the security information is coded as light signals.
In an embodiment of the present invention, the electronic sensor (4) comprises a filter (6) that detects certain wavelengths and thus, provides the decoding of the password. The filter (6) may be digital or analog. The filter (6) allows only the wavelengths transmitted by the device (C) to pass. The filter (6) does not allow the passage of the ambient light or the daylight. Thus, the security information is enabled to be accurately identified.
In an embodiment of the present invention, the light signals are transmitted by the portable electronic device. Electronic devices such as cellular phones and tablets can transmit the security information as light signals by means of an installed application. Thus, cost increase is avoided. For users that do not use a cellular phone or a tablet, a device (C) that operates like a remote control can be designed. Moreover, the connection to the network can be set up by the service personnel.
In an embodiment of the present invention, the electronic sensor (4) detects the visible light, infrared light or ultraviolet light.
In an embodiment of the present invention, the household appliance (1) comprises the network card (2) that is disposed on the household appliance (1) and that enables the household appliance (1) to connect to the network, and the electronic sensor (4) that enables the household appliance (1) to connect to the network by transmitting the security information received from the first processing unit (5) to the network card (2). The security information necessary for joining the network is detected by the electronic sensor (4), decoded by the first processing unit (5) and then, transmitted to the network card (2). The network card (2) enables the household appliance (1) to join the network using the security information.
By means of present invention, the household appliance (1) is enabled to join the network with improved security. The network name and the password are transmitted to the electronic sensor (4) as light signals instead of being entered by the user on the household appliance (1). The security information that is transmitted as light signals is identified by the household appliance (1). Thus, ease of use is provided and security is improved.
