Description

DE SC RIPTION
A N E XT E NDA BL E R E ST ING U NIT F i el d of the I nventi on
The present invention relates to an extendable resting unit which is used for resting purposes in vehicles and which is extended to provide a more comfortable resting space in case of resting.
Background of the Invention
As heavy commercial vehicles are driven long distances due to their purpose of use, their drivers need to rest in the vehicle by stopping at resting stations or safe areas. For this purpose, there are bunks provided in the vehicles which enable them to rest without getting out of the vehicle. V ehicle sizes are limited by legal regulations and the area to be used in the cabin for driving and as living space is limited. The vehicle cabin is equipped with equipment such as an adjustable seat steering wheel, etc. which are suitably ergonomic for driving comfort and which enable people of different heights to find comfortable and safe driving positions; and comfort of the driver during resting time is also taken care of. For this purpose, it is aimed to provide the largest possible bunk area for use of the driver.
The fixed orvariable bunk area, which is used in the vehicles manufactured today, is in interaction with the other movable equipment in the cabin (such as the seat, storage area, etc.), and limits the size of the area to be used for the bunk due to the limited cabin size. The fixed or variable bunk area, which is used in the vehicles manufactured today, is in interaction with the other movable equipment in the cabin (such as the seat, storage area, etc.), and limits the size of the area to be used for the bunk due to the limited cabin size. However, in cases where the seats are moved close to the steering wheel thereby increasing the bunk area as well as where the bunk is opened upon reclining the seats, use of the driver's seat or front passenger seat is not possible. Thus, it is not possible for the driver to drive the vehicle when someone is resting at the bunk area when the bunk is opened wide. International patent application document no. WO2006101427, an application known in the state of the art, discloses a bunk whose usable area can be changed by being moved by foldable parts and hinges. However in this document, extending the bunk area differs in terms of the method of extending the bunk. Obj ectives of the Invention
The objective of the present invention is to provide an extendable resting unit whose usable area can be changed without requiring movable mechanisms. Another objective of the present invention is to provide an extendable resting unit, which is downsized when not used thereby providing a wider area for the driver and the passenger, and which, when used, provides a wider and more comfortable resting area. Another objective of the present invention is to provide an extendable resting unit which can be extended in parts.
Summary of the Invention The present invention relates to an extendable resting unit, which is used for resting purposes in vehicles and is extended to provide a more comfortable resting space in case of resting, and whose usable area is changed without requiring movable mechanisms. Detailed Description of the Invention
An extendable resting unit developed to fulfill the objective of the present invention is illustrated in the accompanying figures, in which:

An extendable resting unit (1), which is used for resting purposes in vehicles and which is extended to provide a more comfortable resting space in case of resting, basically comprises
- at least one fixed unit (2) which is used for resting purposes,
- at least one extending member (3) which, when preferred, increases the usable resting area by extending one or more fixed units (2),
- at I east one extendi ng mechani sm (4) whi ch enabl es the extendi ng member (3) to extend one or more fixed units (2). In one embodiment of the invention, the extendable resting unit (1) includes a fixed unit (2) used in case of resting. There are holes (2.2) provided on the side of the fixed unit (2) facing the driver's and the passenger's seat (A). The part of the fixed unit (2) remaining between the holes (2.1) extend towards between the two seats (A) thereby forming the extension (2.2). The extension (2.2) increases travelling comfort by serving as an armrest for the driver and the passenger. The fixed unit (2) is extended by the help of the extending member (3) when preferred. In cases where the extending member (3) is used, the usable area for resting is increased. The extending member (3) increases the area used for resting preferably by means of an extending mechanism (4). The extending mechanism (4) extends one or more fixed units (2) non-mechanical ly. In this embodiment of the invention, the extending member (3) extends the fixed unit (2) by using hydraulic or pneumatic systems. The extending mechanism (4) fills the extending member (3) with a f I ui d and thus enabl es to i ncrease the vol ume of the extendi ng member (3). In this embodiment of the invention, the fluid that is used is preferably air. When the extending member (3) is filled with fluid, the fixed unit (2) is extended and the area used for resting is increased. When the extendable resting unit (1) is not used, the extending member (3) is downsized by vacuum effect and the resting area is narrowed. When the resting area is preferred to be narrowed, the extending mechanism (4) discharges the fluid in the extending member (3).
In one embodiment of the invention, in the extendable resting unit (1), the extending member (3) is fixed to the cabin rear wall, and when preferred, it is extended to move the fixed unit (2) towards the seats (A). This way the usable area for resting is increased. In this embodiment of the invention, while the extending mechanism (4) can automatically actuate the extending member (3), it can also do so by being controlled manually. In cases where the extending member (3) will increase the resting area of the fixed unit (2), the seats (A) are moved towards the front of the cabin either automatically or manually. In another embodiment of the invention, the extending member (3) is located between two fixed units (2). The extending member (3) is extended by the help of the extending mechanism (4) and moves the fixed unit (2) located near the seats (A ) towards the seats (A ) and i ncreases the resti ng area.
In another preferred embodiment of the invention, the extending member (3) is placed into the holes (2.1), and when preferred, increases the resting area upon being extended by the help of the extending mechanism (4).
In another preferred embodiment of the invention, a plurality of extending members (3) is provided, and when preferred, increases the resting area by the help of the extending mechanism (4). In addition, in the extendable resting unit (1), when preferred, when one of the extending members (3) is extended, the others can be i n vacuum state. T he usabl e resti ng area can be adj usted changeably thanks to the fact that the extending members (3) are in extended and vacuum state at the same ti me.
In another embodiment of the invention, the extending member (3) may be an extendable structure that can be extended by using materials like polyurethane, etc. When preferred, the extending member (3) reduces the resting area by reduction of its volume.
In another embodiment of the invention, while the extending mechanism (4) automatically actuates the extending member (3), it also moves the vehicle seats (A) synchronously. While the extending mechanism (4) can extend the extending member (3) by electric energy, it can also extend it by the energy obtained from the vehicle engine. In another embodiment of the invention, while the extending mechanism (4) can extend/downsize the extending member (3) by the pressurized air already stored in the vehicle, it can also do so by using pressurizing equipment such as pumps.
