Description

가변초점 광학소자를 이용한 레이저 광원 셔터 시스템
본 발명은 광학 기술에 관한 것으로, 더욱 상세하게는 전자식 셔터 시스템에 관한 것이다.
레이저 광원의 노출 시간을 조정하기 위한 셔터는, 크게 기계식 셔터와 기계적 움직임이 없는 전자식 셔터로 구분된다.
기계식 셔터는 저비용이고 차단율이 우수하다는 장점 등이 있으나, 셔터가 동작할 때 기계적 움직임에 의한 진동 때문에 홀로그램 기록 등 정밀한 환경이 요구되는 상황에서는 사용이 어려운 단점이 있다.
이에 반해, 전자식 셔터, 이를 테면, AOM(Acousto-Optic Modulator), LC 셔터는, 진동이 발생하지 않는 장점이 있는 반면 고비용이며 차단율 및 광효율 측면에서 기계식 셔터에 미치지 못하는 등의 단점이 있다.
이에, 기계식 셔터와 전자식 셔터의 단점을 보완한 새로운 방식의 셔터 시스템에 대한 모색이 요청된다.
본 발명은 상기와 같은 문제점을 해결하기 위하여 안출된 것으로서, 본 발명의 목적은, 가변초점 광학 소자인, 가변초점 렌즈나 거울을 이용하여 상대적으로 저비용으로 높은 차단율을 보이는 레이저 광원 셔터 시스템을 제공함에 있다.
상기 목적을 달성하기 위한 본 발명의 일 실시예에 따른, 광원 셔터 시스템은, 광원; 상기 광원에서 조사되는 빔을 투과시키는 가변초점 광학소자; 상기 가변초점 광학소자에서 투과된 빔이 진행하는 광 경로 상에 위치하는 핀홀; 및 상기 가변초점 광학소자의 초점거리를, '상기 가변초점 광학소자로부터 상기 핀홀까지의 거리' 또는 '그 외의 거리'로 제어하는 컨트롤러;를 포함한다.
그리고, 상기 컨트롤러는, 셔터 개방시에는, 상기 가변초점 광학소자의 초점거리를 '상기 가변초점 광학소자로부터 상기 핀홀까지의 거리'로 제어할 수 있다.

이하에서는 도면을 참조하여 본 발명을 보다 상세하게 설명한다.
도 1 내지 도 4는, 본 발명의 실시예에 따른 가변초점 렌즈를 이용한 레이저 광원 셔터의 원리에 대한 설명이다.
본 발명의 실시예에 따른 레이저 광원 셔터는, 가변초점 렌즈를 이용하여 초점거리의 전기적 변경을 통해 레이저 광원을 투과/차단시킬 수 있는 셔터이다. 이를 통해, 본 발명의 실시예에 따른 레이저 광원 셔터는, 기계식 셔터와 같은 진동 발생이 없이도, 저비용으로 높은 차단율 및 광효율을 갖을 수 있다.
도 1 및 도 2에는, fopen < fblock 인 경우, 가변초점 렌즈(111)를 이용한 레이저 광원용 셔터의 동작 원리가 묘사되어 있다. 구체적으로, 도 1은 셔터가 열린 경우, 도 2는 셔터가 광원을 차단한 경우, 각각을 묘사하고 있다.
가변초점 렌즈(111)는, 액체 렌즈, 액정 렌즈(LC Lens) 등으로 구현할 수 있다. 도 6 및 도 7을 통해 후술하겠지만, 가변초점 렌즈(111)는, 초점거리가 바뀔 수 있는 다른 종류의 가변초점 소자, 이를 테면, 가변초점 거울, 위상 DM(Deformable Mirror), SLM(Spatial Light Modulator) 등으로 대체될 수 있다.
본 발명의 실시예에 따른 레이저 광원 셔터는, 가변초점 렌즈(111)의 초점거리 변화를 통해 셔터 기능을 수행한다. 셔터가 열렸을 때의 초점거리를 fopen, 셔터가 광원을 차단할 때의 초점거리를 fblock 으로 표기한다(fopen ≠ fblock).
본 발명의 실시예에 따른 레이저 광원 셔터는, 입사되는 콜리메이트 레이저 빔(Collimated Laser Beam)의 광축에 일렬로 정렬된 가변초점 렌즈(111), 핀홀(121) 및 출사 렌즈(Exit Lens)(131)를 포함한다.
여기서, 가변초점 렌즈(111)와 핀홀(121) 사이의 거리는 fopen 이다. 그리고, 핀홀(121)과 출사 렌즈(131) 사이의 거리는, 출사 렌즈(131)의 초점거리인 fexit 이다.

도 5는 본 발명의 일 실시예에 따른 레이저 광원 셔터 시스템의 구성도이다. 도 5에 도시된 가변초점 렌즈(110), 핀홀(120) 및 출사 렌즈(130)는, 도 1과 도 2에 도시된 구성들과 도 3과 도 4에 도시된 구성들을 통칭한다. 즉, 도 5에 도시된 가변초점 렌즈(110), 핀홀(120) 및 출사 렌즈(130)는, 도 1과 도 2에 도시된 타입(fopen < fblock)으로 구성 가능함은 물론, 도 3과 도 4에 도시된 타입(fopen > fblock)으로도 구성 가능하다.
도 5에는, 레이저 광원 셔터 시스템의 구성으로, 레이저 빔을 출사하는 레이저(140), 빔 증폭과 콜리메이팅을 위한 빔 익스팬더/콜리메이터(Beam Expander/Collimator)(150) 및 컨트롤러(160)를 포함한다.
컨트롤러(160)는, 셔터 개방시에는 가변초점 렌즈(110)의 초점거리를 fopen으로 제어하고, 셔터 차단시에는 가변초점 렌즈(110)의 초점거리를 fblock으로 제어한다.
도 6은 본 발명의 다른 실시예에 따른 레이저 광원 셔터 시스템의 구성도이다. 도 6에 도시된 레이저 광원 셔터 시스템은, 가변초점 렌즈(110)를 가변초점 오목거울(240)로 대체하였다는 점에서, 도 5에 도시된 레이저 광원 셔터 시스템과 차이가 있다. 즉, 도 6에 도시된 레이저 광원 셔터 시스템은, 레이저 광원 셔터를 반사형으로 구현한 것이다.
본 발명의 실시예에 따른 레이저 광원 셔터 시스템은, 레이저(210), 빔 익스팬더/콜리메이터(Beam Expander/Collimator)(220), PBS(Polarizing Beam Splitter)-1(230), QWP(Quarter Wave Plate)-1(235), 가변초점 오목거울(240), 컨트롤러(250), 핀홀(260), PBS-2(270), QWP-2(275) 및 오목거울(280)을 포함한다.
가변초점 오목거울(240)은 초점거리가 바뀔 수 있는 반사형 가변초점 소자의 일종으로, DM(Deformable Mirror) 위상 SLM(Spatial Light Modulator) 등으로 구현할 수 있다.
레이저(210)에서 출사되어 빔 익스팬더/콜리메이터(220)에서 익스팬딩/콜레이메이팅된 콜리메이트 레이저 빔은 PBS-1(230)에 의해 광경로가 90도 꺾이게 게 된다. 이때, 레이저 빔의 편광 상태는 PBS-1(230)의 반사 편광과 일치하도록 정렬한다.
PBS-1(230)에 의해 반사된 레이저 빔은 QWP-1(235)를 통과하게 되고, 컨트롤러(250)에 연결된 가변초점 오목거울(240)에 의해 반사되게 된다. 가변초점 오목거울(240)은 컨트롤러(250)에 의해 fopen과 fblock 두 가지 초점 거리를 가지며, 가변초점 오목거울(240)로부터 fopen 만큼의 거리에 핀홀(260)이 위치한다.
가변초점 오목거울(240)에 의해 반사된 레이저 빔은 QWP-1(235)를 한 번 더 통과하며 PBS-1(230)의 투과 편광으로 편광 상태가 변경되며, 이에 따라 PBS-1(230)를 통과하여 핀홀(260)에 도달한다.
핀홀(260)의 이후에는 PBS-2(270)와 QWP-2(275) 및 fexit의 초점거리를 가지는 오목거울(280)이 순차적으로 위치한다. 한편, 핀홀(260) 로부터 오목거울(280)까지는, 거리가 fexit가 되도록 한다.
PBS-2(270)의 투과 편광 상태가 핀홀(260)을 통과하는 레이저 빔의 편광 상태와 동일하도록 정렬시키면, 핀홀(260)을 통과한 레이저 빔은 오목거울(280)에 도달하며, 오목거울(280)에 의해 반사된 레이저 빔은 QWP-2(275)를 한 번 더 거치며 PBS-2(270)의 반사 편광 상태가 되어 PBS-2(270)의 오른쪽으로 출사하게 된다.
이때, 컨트롤러(250)는, 셔터 개방시에는 가변초점 오목거울(240)의 초점거리를 fopen으로 제어하고, 셔터 차단시에는 가변초점 오목거울(240)의 초점거리를 fblock으로 제어한다.
도 6에 도시된 반사형 구조의 셔터 시스템의 경우, 가변초점 오목거울(240)의 파장 의존성이 없기 때문에, 컬러 홀로그램의 구현 등 여러 파장 대역을 동시에 사용하여야 하는 환경에서 파장 별로 시스템을 구성할 필요가 없다는 장점이 있다.
도 7은 본 발명의 또 다른 실시예에 따른 레이저 광원 셔터 시스템의 구성도이다. 도 7에 도시된 레이저 광원 셔터 시스템은, 도 6에 도시된 레이저 광원 시스템에서 핀홀(260) 이후의 구성들인 PBS-2(270), QWP-2(275) 및 오목거울(280)을 출사 렌즈(290)로 대체한 것이다.
핀홀(260)로부터 출사 렌즈(290)까지의 거리는 출사 렌즈(290)의 초점거리 fexit가 되도록 한다.
지금까지, 가변초점 광학소자를 이용한 레이저 광원 셔터 시스템에 대해 바람직한 실시예들을 들어 상세히 설명하였다.
위 실시예에서는, 광원으로 레이저를 언급하였는데 예시적인 것에 불과하다. 레이저 광원 이외의 다른 광원에 대한 셔터 시스템을 구현하는 경우에도 본 발명의 기술적 사상이 적용될 수 있음은 물론이다.
또한, 이상에서는 본 발명의 바람직한 실시예에 대하여 도시하고 설명하였지만, 본 발명은 상술한 특정의 실시예에 한정되지 아니하며, 청구범위에서 청구하는 본 발명의 요지를 벗어남이 없이 당해 발명이 속하는 기술분야에서 통상의 지식을 가진자에 의해 다양한 변형실시가 가능한 것은 물론이고, 이러한 변형실시들은 본 발명의 기술적 사상이나 전망으로부터 개별적으로 이해되어져서는 안될 것이다.

Claims (8)

  1. 광원;
    상기 광원에서 조사되는 빔을 투과시키는 가변초점 광학소자;
    상기 가변초점 광학소자에서 투과된 빔이 진행하는 광 경로 상에 위치하는 핀홀; 및
    상기 가변초점 광학소자의 초점거리를, '상기 가변초점 광학소자로부터 상기 핀홀까지의 거리' 또는 '그 외의 거리'로 제어하는 컨트롤러;를 포함하는 것을 특징으로 하는 광원 셔터 시스템.
  2. 청구항 1에 있어서,
    상기 컨트롤러는,
    셔터 개방시에는, 상기 가변초점 광학소자의 초점거리를 '상기 가변초점 광학소자로부터 상기 핀홀까지의 거리'로 제어하는 것을 특징으로 하는 광원 셔터 시스템.
  3. 청구항 2에 있어서,
    상기 컨트롤러는,
    셔터 차단시에는, 상기 가변초점 광학소자의 초점거리를 '그 외의 거리'로 제어하는 것을 특징으로 하는 광원 셔터 시스템.
  4. 청구항 1에 있어서,
    상기 가변초점 광학소자는, 가변초점 렌즈인 것을 특징으로 하는 광원 셔터 시스템.
  5. 청구항 1에 있어서,
    상기 가변초점 광학소자는, 가변초점 거울인 것을 특징으로 하는 광원 셔터 시스템.
  6. 청구항 1에 있어서,
    상기 핀홀을 통과한 빔을 출사하는 출사용 광학소자;를 더 포함하고,
    상기 출사용 광학소자는,
    출사 렌즈 또는 출사 거울인 것을 특징으로 하는 광원 셔터 시스템.
  7. 청구항 1에 있어서,
    상기 광원은,
    레이저 광원인 것을 특징으로 하는 광원 셔터 시스템.
  8. 광원이, 빔을 조사하는 단계;
    가변초점 광학소자가, 상기 광원에서 조사되는 빔을 투과시켜, 빔이 진행하는 광 경로 상에 위치하는 핀홀로 전달하는 단계; 및
    컨트롤러가, 상기 가변초점 광학소자의 초점거리를, '상기 가변초점 광학소자로부터 상기 핀홀까지의 거리' 또는 '그 외의 거리'로 제어하는 단계;를 포함하는 것을 특징으로 하는 광원 셔터 방법.
