Definitions

  • This patent relates to covers for storage tanks and in particular concerns a new floating cover for storage tanks in general which is provided with a heating system for the material contained in the storage tank itself.
  • Prior art includes storage tanks for fluids, for example used in installations for the treatment of industrial or civil effluents or produced by animal husbandry or agricultural activities.
  • Prior art also includes storage tanks for effluents in general or digestates requiring covers essentially to reduce uncontrolled emissions of gases into the atmosphere.
  • the covers are, however, also used to limit the spread of odours into the surrounding environment, to isolate the contents of the tank from atmospheric precipitation, and to limit the variations in temperature of the fluids contained in the tank.
  • these covers have the purpose of reducing the emission of the gases produced by the chemical and physical processes that take place inside the tank into the atmosphere.
  • gases include, for example, ammonia, methane, carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases.
  • Prior art includes floating covers comprised of a tarp suited to be essentially stretched across the exposed surface of the fluid and held there with weights to stabilize their position.
  • Prior art also includes floating covers, generally comprising at least one tarp or covering element and at least one floating body positioned in the vicinity of the peripheral edge of the covering element in question.
  • floating covers equipped with at least one pump designed to remove the rainwater that might otherwise accumulate on the tarp causing it to sink into the effluent are also known.
  • the aforementioned floating body has a substantially tubular shape which is hollow inside and filled with air, is constrained to the peripheral edge of the covering tarp, and goes along the perimeter of the tank.
  • Prior art also includes dome-shaped covers, comprising a structure formed by a plurality of radial ribs or ropes, joined at a vertex supported by a rigid upright, and a tarp covering mounted on that structure, where the edge of the tarp and the ends of the radial ribs or ropes themselves rest on the edge of the storage tank to be covered.
  • the covers of this type leave a space between the exposed surface of the fluid contained in the storage tank and the tarp itself and this results in the possibility of accumulating and collecting the gases generated by the slurry contained in the tank, for example produced by digestive processes that lead to the formation of biogas.
  • the biogas produced can be used as fuel in boilers to heat animal husbandry facilities, such as those intended for breeding and raising livestock, or for personnel areas.
  • the biogas produced is not sufficient to heat these premises entirely.
  • the object of the present patent is a new floating cover for storage tanks in general, provided with a heating system for the material contained in the storage tank.
  • the main objective of the present invention is to increase or maintain the temperature of the material contained in the storage tank, primarily to maximize the production of biogas generated by the digestion of the effluent organic matter.
