Description

A MACHINE TO STORE AND TRANSFER LID PACKAGES FROM AT LEAST TWO RESPECTIVE STORAGES
FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to the technical sector concerning manufacturing cans by seaming.
In particular, the present invention relates to a machine to store and transfer lid packages from at least two respective storages, which machine is suitable for transferring the lid packages to a machine for opening the lid packages and supplying the lids to a seaming machine by means of at least two supply channels.
DESCRIPTION OF THE PRIOR ART
A system for producing cans comprises: a seaming machine; a machine for opening packs of lids and for supplying the lids to the seaming machine; and a machine to store and transfer lid packages to the machine for opening the lid packages and supplying the lids to the seaming machine.
A known can, for example made of metal or tin, can be of a type made of three pieces and be constituted by a cylindrical body, a bottom lid and a top lid. The cans are made by the seaming machine by seaming the bottom lid and the top lid to respective ends of the cylindrical body. The bottom lid is usually different to the top lid. With reference to a can, for example, the bottom lid is smooth whereas the top lid comprises a ring-pull for opening the can.
Therefore, in order to produce the cans in three pieces, the seaming machine must receive in input a plurality of cylindrical bodies, a plurality of bottom lids and a plurality of top lids.
The lids, whether bottom or top, for requirements of storage and transport, and especially for avoiding, prior to being applied to the relative cylindrical body, any risk of subjection to scratching, impacts or other events that might compromise use thereof, are previously packed in special lid packages. A lid package comprises a plurality of lids flanked coaxially side by side to one another and a wrapping, made of a paper material or plastic, covering the plurality of lids.
For this reason, the system for producing cans comprises, upstream of the seaming machine, a machine for opening the lid packages and supplying the lids to the seaming machine by means of at least two supply channels.
A machine for opening lid packages and for supplying lids to the seaming machine by means of at least two supply channels is disclosed in Italian patent no. 1413383 and comprises: an input of lid packages; a cutting station, arranged at the input of lid packages, which receives a pack of lids, cuts the wrapping of the lid package and removes the wrapping; at least two supply channels which receive the plurality of lids from the package of lids and supply the seaming, machine.
Lastly, the system for producing cans comprises: a machine to store and transfer lid packages to the machine for opening the lid packages and supplying the lids to the seaming machine.
A known machine to store and transfer lid packages comprises a storage for storing a plurality of lid packages and first conveyor means for conveying the first lid package from the first storage to the input of lid packages of the machine for opening lid packages and for supplying lids to the seaming machine.
The above-mentioned machine to store and transfer lid packages enables transferring one only type of lids (i.e. either bottom lids or top lids) to the input of lid packages of the machine for opening the lid packages and supplying the lids to the seaming machine. Consequently, the seaming machine can be supplied with only one type of lid.
Therefore, if it is required to supply a seaming machine with two different types of lids (for example bottom lids and top lids) it would be necessary to include, in the system for producing cans, at least two machines for opening lid packages and for supplying lids to the seaming machine (i.e. a machine for bottom lids and a machine for top lids) and two machines for storing and transferring lid packages.
However, this solution for supplying a' seaming machine with two different types of lids determines an increase in costs and the dimensions of the system for producing cans.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
In the light of the following, the aim of the present invention consists in obviating the above-mentioned drawbacks.
The above aims are attained by a machine to store and transfer lid packages from at least two respective storages according to claim 1.
The machine of the invention comprises a first storage and a second storage so as to be able to separately storage a first plurality of lid packages (for example, packages of bottom lids) and a second plurality of lid packages (for example, top lid packages).
Further, the machine of the invention, by means of the first support, the second support and the transfer means, enables transferring both the first lid package and the second lid package to the input of the machine for opening the lid packages and for the supply of lids, distinctly from one another and as a function of the needs of the seaming machine.
Therefore, the machine of the device exploits the at least two supply channels of the machine for opening lid packages and for supply of lids to a seaming machine in order to be able to supply the seaming machine with lids of different types (the known machine to store and transfer lid packages uses the at least two supply channels for continuously supplying the seaming machine but is not able to exploit them for supplying the seaming machine with lids of different types).
Therefore the machine to store and transfer lid packages from at least two respective storages enables obtaining a system for producing cans, the seaming machine of which is supplied with different types of lids.
The system for producing cans which enables the supply to the seaming machine with different types of lids advantageously ensures a minimum volume dimension and modest costs.
Further, and still more advantageously, the disclosed machine can be inserted in an already-installed system to replace the known machine to store and transfer lid packages.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
Specific embodiments of the invention will be described in the following part of the present description, according to what is set down in the claims and with the aid of the appended tables of drawings, in which:
- figures from 1 to 5 each illustrate a perspective view of different operating steps of a machine to store and transfer lid packages from at least two respective storages of the present invention, and a machine for opening the lid packages and supplying the lids to a seaming machine by means of at least two supply channels which cooperates with the machine that is the object of the present invention;
- the figure illustrates a further perspective view of the machine of the invention. DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS
With reference to the appended tables of drawings, reference numeral (1 ) denotes in its entirety a machine to store and transfer lid packages from at least two respective storages.
Each lid package includes a plurality of lids (80) (usually circular) flanked coaxially side by side to each other and a wrapping (81) covering the plurality of lids (80). Each lid package has a longitudinal extension. The machine of the invention is suitable for transferring the lid packages to a machine (100) for opening the lid packages and supplying the lids to a seaming machine (not illustrated) by means of at least two supply channels (101).
The machine comprises a first storage (2) for storing a first plurality (3) of lid packages comprising a first lid package (30) and first conveyor means (4) for conveying the first lid package (30).
The machine (1) of the invention comprises: a second storage (5) for containing a second plurality (6) of lid packages comprising a second lid package (60); a first support (7) shaped to alternatively support the first lid package (30) and the second lid package (60), which first support (7) is arranged in such a way as to be in proximity of an input of lid packages (102) of the machine (100) for opening the lid packages and supplying the lids to a seaming machine; a second support (8) which is conformed so as support the second lid package (60) and which is arranged with respect to the first support (7) in such a way that the second lid package (60) is slidingly movable from the second support (8) to the first support (7); a pushing element (9) (for example a pneumatic cylinder) for moving the second lid package (60) from the second support (8) to the first support (7).
The first conveying means (4) convey the first lid package (30) from the first storage (2) to the first support (7). The machine (1) further comprises second conveying means (10) for conveying the second lid package (60) from the second storage (5) to the second support (8).
Lastly, the machine (1) of the invention comprises transfer means for transferring, the first lid package (30) supported by the first support (7) or the second lid package (60) supported by the first support (7) to the input of the lid packages (102).
The first plurality (3) of lid packages might comprise lid packages of the bottom or top type. The second plurality (6) of lid packages might comprise lid packages of the bottom or top type. The first plurality (3) of lid packages preferably comprises lid packages the plurality of lids of which are different with respect to those of the lid packages of the second plurality (6) of lid packages.
The first support (7) is conformed for supporting both the first lid package (30) and the second lid package (60) but for supporting them one at a time.
In a first embodiment of the disclosed machine, illustrated in figures 1-6, the first support (7) can comprise: a first wall (70) which is arranged tilted with respect to a horizontal plane in order to enable tumbling the first lid package (30) or the second lid package (60) from the first support (7) to the input of the lid packages (102); a second wall (71) which is movable between a first position (A), wherein it abuts the first lid package (30) or the second lid package (60) maintaining the first lid package (30) or the second lid package (60) on the first support (7) stable, and a second position (B) wherein it enables the tumbling of the first lid package (30) or the second lid package (60) from the first support (7) towards the input of the lid packages (102). In this embodiment, furthermore, the transfer means include a movement unit (not illustrated) for moving the second wall (71) between the first position (A) and the second position (B).
In this embodiment, therefore, the first lid package (30) or the second lid package (60) is transferred to the input of lid packages (102), exploiting the tilted arrangement of the first wall (70) of the first support (7) and the movement of the second wall (71) of the first support (7) by the movement unit.
This embodiment advantageously enables minimising the volume dimensions of the machine (1). The second wall (71 ) of the first support (7) is preferably arranged vertically and the movement unit is such as to vertically move the second wall (71) of the first support (7) (figures 3 and 4).
The movement unit is therefore such as to raise and lower the second wall (71) of the first support (7). Alternatively, in an embodiment that is not illustrated, the second wall (71 ) of the first support (7) might be rotatable about a relative side and the movement unit might be such as to rotate the second wall (71 ) of the first support (7) about the side.
The first wall (70) of the first support (7) is preferably shaped in a single body with the second support (8) (figure 1).
In second embodiment, not illustrated in the figures, the first support (7) can be L- shaped in order to alternatively support the first lid package (30) and the second lid package (60) in a stable way and the transfer means include a pushing element for pushing the first lid package (30) or the second lid package (60) supported by the first support (7) at the input of the lid packages (102).
In the second embodiment, the first support (7) and the second support (8) are shaped in a single body.
In accordance with any one of the above embodiments, the second support (8) can be L-shaped in order to support the second lid package (60) in a stable way (figure 1). The first storage (2) and the second storage (5) are preferably arranged side by side so as to limit the dimensions of the machine (1) (figure 6).
In the embodiment of the machine (1 ) illustrated in figures, the first conveyor means (4) can comprise: a first loop-wound chain (40) rotatable about a horizontal axis; a second loop-wound chain (41 ) rotatable about a horizontal axis opposite the first chain (40); a plurality of rest planes (42) fixed to the first chain (40) and to the second chain (41) in such a way as to be equidistant from one another and conformed for stably supporting the first lid package (30).
Likewise, the second conveyor means (10) can comprise: a first loop-wound chain (50) rotatable about a horizontal axis; a second loop-wound chain rotatable about a horizontal axis opposite the first chain (50); a plurality of rest planes (52) fixed to the first chain (50) and to the second chain in such a way as to be equidistant, from one another and conformed for stably supporting the first lid package (30).
A system for producing cans can comprise: a seaming machine; a machine (100) for opening the lid packages and supplying the lids to the seaming machine by means of at least two supply channels (101), which machine (100) comprises an input of lid packages (102); and a machine (1) for storing and transferring lid packages from at least two respective storages, according to one of the above- described embodiments, to a machine (100) for opening the lid packages and supplying the lids to a seaming machine.
This system advantageously enables supplying the seaming machine with lids of various different types (for example bottom lids and top lids) while having a minimum volume dimension and a modest economic outlay.
With reference to figures 1-5 a preferred embodiment of the machine (1 ) of the present invention is illustrated in different operating steps. In figures 1-5 a part of the machine (100) is also illustrated for opening the lid packages and supplying the lids to a seaming machine by means of at least two supply channels (101).
With reference to figure 1 , the second conveying means (10) have conveyed the second lid package (60) from the second storage (5) to the second support (8) on which on the second lid package (60) is resting. Thereafter, the pushing element (9) pushes the second lid package (60) from the second support (8) to the first support (7) (figures 2 and 3). At this point, with reference to figure 4, the pushing element (9) returns to the initial position (i.e. the position of figure 1) and the transfer means move the second wall (71) of the first support (7) from the first position (A) to the second position (B) so that the second lid package (60) rolls towards the input of lid packages (102) of the machine for opening the lid packages and for supplying the lids to a seaming machine. On this subject, see figure 5, where the second lid package (60) is illustrated, from which the wrapping (81) has been removed. At this point, the plurality of lids of the second lid package (60) will be transferred to the relative supply channel (101 ).
