Description

A SAFELY OPERATED DISHWASHER
The present invention relates to a safely operated dishwasher.
In portable dishwashers the wash water is discharged by pulling the discharge hose connected to the body of the dishwasher out of the body and directing the same to a discharge means. Operating the dishwasher without placing the discharge hose to the discharge position so as to extend to the discharge means poses a problem.
In the state of the art French Patent No. FR2716793, a dishwasher is disclosed, wherein the wash water is discharged into the sink or into a portable chamber by a detachable hose. In this application, the discharge pump is operated in a controlled manner by detecting whether the portable chamber is mounted in place.
The aim of the present invention is the realization of a dishwasher that is enabled to operate in a safe manner.
The dishwasher realized in order to attain the of the present invention, explicated in the first claim and the respective claims thereof, comprises a body; a tub that is enclosed by the body and that is suitable for placing dishes to be washed therein; a washing chamber wherein the wash water received from the tub is collected; an opening disposed on the body; a discharge hose that is taken to the outside environment by means of the opening and that carries the wash water collected in the washing chamber at the end of the washing operation. Since small sized (compact) dishwashers are generally not connected to a stationary discharge line, the waste wash water is discharged into the sink or into a portable chamber by means of the discharge hose.
The dishwasher of the present invention comprises a sensor that detects whether the discharge hose is moved away from the body by being pulled out and a control unit that allows the operation of the dishwasher according to the information transmitted by the sensor. The discharge hose has a storing position wherein the discharge hose remains almost entirely inside the dishwasher, and a discharge position wherein the discharge hose is almost entirely pulled out of the dishwasher. For the portable dishwasher that is hung on the wall to be operated in a safe and a controlled manner, the discharge hose needs to be brought to the discharge position from the storing position. The control unit controls the operation of the dishwasher according to the signal received from the sensor. Thus, the dishwasher is enabled to operate in a safe manner.
In an embodiment of the present invention, the dishwasher comprises a housing that is arranged on the body and wherein the discharge hose is stored while not in use.
In an embodiment of the present invention, the sensor is an optical sensor. The control unit controls whether the discharge hose is in the housing according to the data received from the optical sensor and allows the operation of the dishwasher if the discharge hose is not in the storing position.
In an embodiment of the present invention, the sensor is a motion sensor located on the discharge hose. According to the signal received from the motion sensor, the control unit does not allow the dishwasher to be operated if the discharge hose is not moved.
In an embodiment of the present invention, the dishwasher comprises a switch and a lid that is mounted on the discharge hose and that contacts the switch by means of bearing on the body while the discharge hose is not in use. In this embodiment, the sensor is the switch. Upon being moved away from the body, the contact of the lid with the switch is cut off and the control unit detects that the discharge hose is brought to the discharge position.
In an embodiment of the present invention, the dishwasher comprises a latch that is disposed on the lid and that facilitates the grasping of the lid.
A dishwasher realized in order to attain the aim of the present invention is illustrated in the attached figures, where,
Figure 1 – is the schematic view of a dishwasher whereof the sensor is the optical sensor, while the discharge hose is in the storing position related to an embodiment of the present invention.
Figure 2 – is the schematic view of a dishwasher whereof the sensor is the switch, while the discharge hose is in the discharge position related to another embodiment of the present invention.
Figure 3 – is the schematic view of a dishwasher whereof the sensor is the motion sensor, while the discharge hose is in the discharge position related to another embodiment of the present invention.
The elements illustrated in the figures are numbered as follows:
  1. Dishwasher
  2. Body
  3. Tub
  4. Washing chamber
  5. Opening
  6. Discharge hose
  7. Control unit
  8. Housing
  9. Lid
  10. Latch
  11. , 12, 13 Sensor
The dishwasher (1) comprises a body (2); a tub (3) that is disposed in the body (2) and that is suitable for placing dishes to be washed therein; a washing chamber (4) wherein the wash water is collected; an opening (5) disposed on the body (2), and a discharge hose (6) that is mounted to the opening (5), that is connected on the washing chamber (4) and that discharges the wash water at the end of the washing operation. In the portable dishwashers (1) that are hung on the wall, the waste wash water is discharged into the sink or into a portable chamber by means of the discharge hose (6).
The dishwasher (1) of the present invention comprises a sensor (11, 12, 13) that detects the position or the movement of the discharge hose (6) and a control unit (7) that allows or prevents the operation of the dishwasher (1) according to the signal received from the sensor (11, 12, 13). The discharge hose (6) has a storing position wherein the discharge hose (6) remains almost entirely inside the body (2) and a discharge position wherein the discharge hose (6) extends out of the body (2). For the portable dishwasher (1) that is hung on the wall to be operated in a safe and a controlled manner, the discharge hose (6) needs to be brought to the discharge position. The control unit (7) prevents the dishwasher (1) from being operated while the discharge hose (6) is in the storing position.
In an embodiment of the present invention, the dishwasher (1) comprises a housing (8) that is disposed on the body (2) and wherein the discharge hose (6) is stored while not in use.
In an embodiment of the present invention, the sensor (11, 12, 13) is an optical sensor disposed on the housing (8). The control unit (7) controls whether the discharge hose (6) is in the storing position according to the information received from the optical sensor (11, 12, 13) and allows the operation of the dishwasher (1) if the discharge hose (6) is not in the storing position (Figure 1).
In an embodiment of the present invention, the sensor (11, 12, 13) is a motion sensor located on the discharge hose (6). According to the signal received from the motion sensor (11, 12, 13), the control unit (7) does not allow the operation of the dishwasher (1) unless the discharge hose (6) is brought from the storing position to the discharge position (Figure 3).
In an embodiment of the present invention, the dishwasher (1) comprises a switch disposed on the body (2) and a lid (9) that is mounted on the discharge hose (6) and that presses on the switch by means of being placed on the body (2) while the discharge hose (6) is not in use. In this embodiment, the sensor (11, 12, 13) is the switch. By means of the lid (9) mounted on the discharge hose (6), the discharge hose (6) is simply moved away from the body (2) by being pulled by means of the lid (9). As the lid (9) is being pulled, the switch is set free and the control unit (7) detects that the discharge hose (6) is brought to the discharge position (Figure 2).
In a derivative of this embodiment, the dishwasher (1) comprises a latch (10) that is disposed on the lid (9) and that facilitates the discharge hose (6) to be pulled out. By means of the latch (10) that has a grasping space, the user brings the discharge hose (6) to the discharge position by simply pulling the latch (10) towards himself/herself.
In an embodiment of the present invention, the opening (5) is disposed on the body (2) so as to be close to the washing chamber (4) positioned close to the base of the body (2). Thus, the waste wash water received from the washing chamber (4) and carried outside is carried along a short line in the discharge hose (6) by means of the effect of gravity.
By means of the present invention, the dishwasher (1) is not operated unless the discharge hose (6) is brought to the discharge position, and thus the waste wash water is prevented from accumulating in the discharge hose (6) and in the washing chamber (4).
