Abstract
본 발명은 분리판, 이의 제조방법 및 이를 포함하는 연료전지 스택에 관한 것으로, 본 발명의 일 측면에 따르면, 제1 면과 제1 면의 반대방향의 제2 면을 가지고, 제2 면에서 제1 면 측으로 돌출된 복수 개의 채널 요소를 가지며, 채널 요소는, 제1 면 상에서 유동하는 유체의 흐름방향에 따라 유입구 및 유출구를 각각 갖도록 마련되고, 유입구와 유출구를 연결하는 가상의 축의 둘레방향을 따라 높이가 가변하는 리브를 가지며, 리브는 외주면의 적어도 일부 영역이 가상의 축의 둘레방향을 따라 사이클로이드(cycloid) 곡면으로 형성된 분리판이 제공된다.
Description
본 발명은 분리판, 이의 제조방법 및 이를 포함하는 연료전지 스택에 관한 것이다.
본 출원은 2015년 6월 30일자 한국 특허 출원 제10-2015-0093717호에 기초한 우선권의 이익을 주장하며, 해당 한국 특허 출원의 문헌에 개시된 모든 내용은 본 명세서의 일부로서 포함된다.
일반적으로 연료전지(Fuel cell)는 연료와 산화제의 전기 화학반응을 통해 전기에너지를 발생시키는 에너지 변환 장치이며, 연료가 계속적으로 공급되는 한 지속적으로 발전이 가능한 장점이 있다.
수소 이온을 투과시킬 수 있는 고분자막을 전해질로 사용하는 고분자 전해질 연료전지(Polymer Electrolyte Membrane Fuel Cell, PEMFC)는 다른 형태의 연료전지에 비해 낮은 약 100℃의 작동온도를 가지며, 에너지 전환 효율과 출력밀도가 높고 응답특성이 빠른 장점이 있다. 뿐만 아니라, 소형화가 가능하기 때문에 휴대용, 차량용 및 가정용 전원장치로 제공될 수 있다.
고분자 전해질 연료전지 스택은 고분자 물질로 구성된 전해질막을 중심으로 애노드(Anode)와 캐소드(Cathode)가 각각 도포되어 형성된 전극층을 구비하는 막-전극 접합체(Membrane Electrode Assembly, MEA), 반응 기체들을 고르게 분포시키고 발생된 전기에너지를 전달하는 역할의 가스 확산층(Gas Diffusion Layer, GDL), 반응 기체들을 가스 확산층으로 공급하고 발생된 물을 배출시키는 분리판(Bipolar Plate), 전해질 막과 분리판 사이에서 반응 기체 및 냉각수의 누출을 방지하는 가스켓(Gasket)을 포함할 수 있다.
종래 연료전지 스택용 분리판은 반응기체와 생성된 물의 흐름이 2차원 채널을 통해 같은 방향을 따라 진행하도록 구성되거나, 교차하는 3차원 입체 형상을 통해 분배 및 배출되도록 구성된다. 그러나 다양한 운전조건 하에서 가변적인 양의 물을 효율적으로 배출시키기에 부적합한 구조를 가지며, 이에 따라 연료전지 스택의 성능을 저하시키는 문제를 갖는다.
본 발명은 분리판 내의 기체 흐름과 액체(예를 들어, 물) 흐름을 효율적으로 분배할 수 있는 분리판, 이의 제조방법 및 이를 포함하는 연료전지 스택을 제공하는 것을 해결하고자 하는 과제로 한다.
또한, 본 발명은 분리판 내의 기체 흐름과 액체(예를 들어, 물) 흐름을 최적화할 수 있는 분리판, 이의 제조방법 및 이를 포함하는 연료전지 스택을 제공하는 것을 해결하고자 하는 과제로 한다.
또한, 본 발명은 기체 흐름의 방향과 액체 흐름의 방향을 반대로 형성할 수 있는 분리판, 이의 제조방법 및 이를 포함하는 연료전지 스택을 제공하는 것을 해결하고자 하는 과제로 한다.
또한, 본 발명은 기체 흐름과 액체 흐름에 상호 간섭을 최소화할 수 있는 분리판, 이의 제조방법 및 이를 포함하는 연료전지 스택을 제공하는 것을 해결하고자 하는 과제로 한다.

상기한 과제를 해결하기 위하여, 제1 면과 제1 면의 반대방향의 제2 면을 가지고, 제2 면에서 제1 면 측으로 돌출된 복수 개의 채널 요소를 갖는 분리판이 제공된다.
여기서 채널 요소는, 제1 면 상에서 유동하는 유체의 흐름방향에 따라 유입구 및 유출구를 각각 갖도록 마련되고, 유입구와 유출구를 연결하는 가상의 축의 둘레방향을 따라 높이가 가변하는 리브를 갖는다.
또한, 리브는 외주면의 적어도 일부 영역이 가상의 축의 둘레방향을 따라 사이클로이드(cycloid) 곡면으로 형성된다.
또한, 유입구 및 유출구 중 적어도 하나는, 흐름방향 단면이 가상의 축에 대하여 경사지도록 마련될 수 있다.
또한, 유입구 및 유출구는 각각의 흐름방향 단면이 제1 면으로부터 멀어질수록 가까워지도록 마련될 수 있다.
또한, 유입구 및 유출구 중 적어도 하나는, 흐름방향 단면이 다각형으로 형성될 수 있다.
또한, 복수 개의 채널요소는, 제1 면의 가로 방향 및 세로 방향을 따라 각각 소정 간격으로 이격 배열될 수 있다.
또한, 인접하는 2개의 채널요소는 유체의 흐름방향에 따라 어느 한 채널요소의 유출구와 다른 채널요소의 유입구가 적어도 일부 중첩되도록 배열될 수 있다.
또한, 채널 요소는, 유입구 및 유출구를 연결하는 가상의 축이 제1 면의 가로축 및 세로축에 대하여 각각 경사지도록 마련될 수 있다.
또한, 본 발명의 또 다른 측면에 따르면, 막-전극 접합체; 막-전극 접합체의 일면에 마련된 가스 확산층; 및 가스 확산층과 마주보도록 배치된 제1 면 및 제1 면의 반대방향의 제2 면을 가지고, 가스 확산층과 접촉하도록 제2 면에서 제1 면 측으로 돌출된 복수 개의 채널 요소를 갖는 분리판을 포함하는 분리판을 포함하는 연료전지 스택이 제공된다.
또한, 채널 요소는, 제1 면 상에서 유동하는 반응 가스의 흐름방향에 따라 유입구 및 유출구를 각각 갖도록 마련되고, 유입구와 유출구를 연결하는 가상의 축의 둘레방향을 따라 높이가 가변하는 리브를 갖는다.
또한, 리브는 외주면의 적어도 일부 영역이 가상의 축의 둘레방향을 따라 사이클로이드(cycloid) 곡면으로 형성된다.
또한, 본 발명의 또 다른 측면에 따르면, 금속 플레이트에 채널 요소의 유입구 및 유출구로 형성될 복수 개의 구멍이 형성되도록 펀칭하는 펀칭 단계 및 채널 요소의 유입구 및 유출구가 될 한 쌍의 구멍 사이의 영역이 돌출되도록 스탬핑하는 스탬핑 단계를 포함하는 분리판의 제조방법이 제공된다.
이상에서 살펴본 바와 같이, 본 발명의 일 실시예와 관련된 분리판, 이의 제조방법 및 이를 포함하는 연료전지 스택은 다음과 같은 효과를 갖는다.
분리판 내의 기체 흐름과 액체(예를 들어, 물) 흐름을 효율적으로 분배할 수 있고, 분리판 내의 기체 흐름과 액체(예를 들어, 물) 흐름을 최적화할 수 있다. 특히, 기체 유로와 액체 유로의 흐름 방향 단면의 폭의 비를 크게 하여, 작은 단면적을 갖는 유로에서 액체의 응축이 더 빨리 일어날 수 있도록 유도한다.
또한, 기체 흐름의 방향과 액체 흐름의 방향을 반대로 형성할 수 있다. 특히, 유로 폭의 차이는 기체 유로와 액체 유로를 통과하는 기체 유속의 차이를 유발시킨다. 구체적으로, 좁은 폭을 갖는 유로(액체 유로)에 음의 압력을 작용시켜, 기체 유동과 반대방향의 액체 흐름을 형성시킬 수 있다.
또한, 기체 흐름과 액체 흐름에 상호 간섭을 최소화할 수 있다. 구체적으로, 작은 단면적을 갖는 상대적으로 좁은 유로는 액체 흐름을 위한 액체 유로가 되고, 큰 단면적을 갖는 상대적으로 넓은 유로는 기체 흐름(반응 가스 등)을 위한 기체 유로가 됨으로써, 기체와 액체의 흐름영역을 효과적으로 분리시킬 수 있다.
또한, 사이클로이드(cycloid) 곡면 형상에 기초하여 액체 유로 벽면의 수직방향의 기울임 각도(draft angle)을 조절하여 액적의 크기, 모양 및 이동방향을 조절할 수 있다. 특히, 액적이 채널 벽면에서 응축과 성장을 하면서 채널 바닥으로 강하할 때, 사이클로이드 곡면이 최단거리 강하선이 된다. 따라서, 액체 배출 속도를 향상시킬 수 있다.
또한, 연료전지 스택에서, 전지화학반응으로 생성되거나, 반응가스 중 수분의 응축에 의해 발생한 물을 효율적으로 배출시킬 수 있으며, 이에 따라 플러딩(flooding) 현상을 최소화할 수 있고, 분리판과 가스 확산층의 전기적 접촉면을 확장시킬 수 있다.
도 1은 본 발명의 일 실시예와 관련된 분리판의 사시도이다.
도 2는 본 발명의 일 실시예와 관련된 연료전지 스택의 단면도이다.

이하, 본 발명의 일 실시예에 따른 분리판, 이의 제조방법 및 이를 포함하는 연료전지 스택을 첨부된 도면을 참고하여 상세히 설명한다.
또한, 도면 부호에 관계없이 동일하거나 대응되는 구성요소는 동일 또는 유사한 참조번호를 부여하고 이에 대한 중복 설명은 생략하기로 하며, 설명의 편의를 위하여 도시된 각 구성 부재의 크기 및 형상은 과장되거나 축소될 수 있다.
도 1은 본 발명의 일 실시예와 관련된 분리판(100)의 사시도이고, 도 2는 본 발명의 일 실시예와 관련된 연료전지 스택(10)의 단면도이다.
또한, 도 3은 본 발명의 일 실시예와 관련된 분리판(100)을 구성하는 채널 요소에 적용된 사이클로이드(cycloid) 곡면을 설명하기 위한 그래프이고, 도 4 내지 도 6은 본 발명의 일 실시예와 관련된 분리판(110)을 구성하는 채널 요소를 나타내는 도면들이다.
본 발명의 일 실시예와 관련된 연료전지 스택(10)은 막-전극 접합체(20)와 막-전극 접합체(20)의 일면에 마련된 가스 확산층(30) 및 분리판(100)을 포함한다.
도 1 및 도 2를 참조하면, 상기 분리판(100)은 제1 면(101)과 제1 면(101)의 반대방향의 제2 면(102)을 가지고, 제2 면(102)에서 제1 면(101) 측으로 돌출된 복수 개의 채널 요소(110)를 갖는다.
채널 요소(110)는, 제1 면(101) 상에서 유동하는 유체(도 1의 반응 가스 유로)의 흐름방향에 따라 유입구(111) 및 유출구(112)를 각각 갖도록 마련된다. 또한, 채널 요소(110)는 유입구(111)와 유출구(112)를 연결하는 가상의 축(L)의 둘레방향을 따라 높이가 가변하는 리브(113)를 갖는다.
특히, 채널 요소(110)는 제1 면이 가스 확산층(30)과 마주보도록 배치된다. 또한, 채널 요소(110)는 상기 리브(113)가 가스 확산층(30)가 접촉하도록 배치된다.
도 2 및 도 3을 참조하면, 리브(113)는 외주면(114)의 적어도 일부 영역이 가상의 축(L)의 둘레방향을 따라 사이클로이드(cycloid) 곡면으로 형성된다. 여기서 리브(113)의 외주면(114)은 분리판(100)의 제1 면(101)과 연속되는 면을 의미한다. 구체적으로, 채널 요소(110)의 외주면이라 함은 제1 면(101)과 연속되는 면을 의미하고, 채널 요소(110)의 내주면이라 함은 제2 면(102)과 연속되는 면을 의미할 수 있다. 또한, 채널 요소(110)의 내주면은 곡면으로 형성된다. 또한, 유입구(111)는 리브(113)의 상류 측 외주연과 제1 면(101)에 의해 형성되는 개구부를 의미하고, 유출구(112)는 리브(113)의 하류 측 외주연과 제1 면(101)에 의해 형성되는 개구부를 의미할 수 있다.
여기서, 인접하는 채널 요소의 내부를 통해 가스(반응 가스 또는 연료)의 유동이 이루어질 수 있고, 인접하는 채널 요소들의 외부(외주면 사이 영역)을 통해 물의 유동이 이루어지도록 할 수 있다. 구체적으로, 인접하는 2개의 리브(113)의 외주면으로 형성된 공간으로 물이 유동하도록 마련될 수 있다. 이때, 채널 요소(110)의 유입구(111)는 흐름방향 단면의 크기(가스 유로의 단면적)가 인접하는 2개의 리브(113)의 외주면으로 형성된 단면의 크기(물 유로의 단면적)보다 크게 형성될 수 있다.
일 실시태양으로, 도 4를 참조하면, 채널 요소(110)의 유입구(111) 및 유출구(112) 중 적어도 하나는, 흐름방향 단면이 가상의 축(L)에 대하여 소정 각도(θ1)로 경사지도록 마련될 수 있다. 또한, 채널 요소(110)의 유입구(111) 및 유출구(112)는 제1 면(101)으로부터 멀어질수록 각각의 흐름방향 단면이 서로 가까워지도록 마련될 수 있다. 구체적으로, 유입구(111)는 분리판(100)의 제1 면(101)으로부터 멀어질수록 흐름방향 단면이 유출구(112) 측으로 기울어질 수 있고, 유출구(112)는 분리판(100)의 제1 면(101)으로부터 멀어질수록 흐름방향 단면이 유입구(111) 측으로 기울어질 수 있다. 또한, 유입구(111) 및 유출구(112)는 가스 확산층(30)에 가까워질수록 각각의 흐름방향 단면이 가까워지도록 마련될 수 있다.
또한, 도 4를 참조하면, 채널 요소(110)의 측벽인, 리브(113)의 외주면(114)은, 분리판(100)의 제1 면(101)과 제2 면(102)을 관통하는 가상의 수직선분에 대하여 소정 각도(θ2)로 경사질 수 있다.
도 1 및 도 5를 참조하면, 인접하는 2개의 채널요소(110)는 유체(예를 들어, 반응 가스 또는 연료)의 흐름방향에 따라 어느 한 채널요소(110)의 유출구(112)와 다른 채널요소(110)의 유입구(111)가 적어도 일부 중첩되도록 배열될 수 있다. 또한, 도 6을 참조하면, 채널 요소의 길이(L1)는 채널 요소 사이의 간격(L2)(보다 크게 설정될 수 있다. 도 6에서, 채널 요소 사이의 간격 L2는 어느 한 채널요소(110)의 유출구(112) 및 다른 채널요소(110)의 유입구(111) 사이의 간격을 의미한다.
도 7은 본 발명의 일 실시예와 관련된 분리판의 제조방법을 설명하기 위한 모식도이다.
도 1 및 도 7을 참조하면, 분리판의 제조방법은, 금속 플레이트(300)에 채널 요소(110)의 유입구(111) 및 유출구(112)로 각각 형성될 복수 개의 구멍(310, 320)이 형성되도록 펀칭하는 펀칭 단계 및 채널 요소(110)의 유입구(111) 및 유출구(112)가 될 한 쌍의 구멍(310, 320) 사이의 영역(330)이 돌출되도록 스탬핑하는 스탬핑 단계를 포함한다. 상기 한 쌍의 구멍(310, 320) 사이의 영역(330)은 스탬핑 공정 후 리브(113)를 구성한다. 또한, 채널 요소(110)의 유입구(111) 및 유출구(112) 에 대응하도록, 구멍(310, 320)은 다각형 형상을 가질 수 있고, 예를 들어 구멍(310, 320)은 사각형 또는 사다리꼴 형상을 갖도록 형성될 수 있다. 또한, 한 쌍의 구멍(310, 320)은 돌출될 영역을 기준으로 대칭된 형상을 갖도록 형성될 수 있다. 또한, 금속 플레이트(분리판)의 두께는, 예를 들어 0.2mm 이하이고, 스탬핑 단계에서 한 쌍의 구멍 사이의 영역(리브)의 돌출 높이는 0.2mm 내지 0.45mm일 수 있다.
도 8은 본 발명의 일 실시예와 관련된 분리판을 나타내는 모식도이다.
도 8을 참조하면, 복수 개의 채널요소는, 제1 면의 가로 방향(예를 들어, x축) 및 세로 방향(예를 들어, y축)을 따라 각각 소정 간격(a, b)으로 이격 배열될 수 있다. 또한, 상기 간격은 액체 유로(물)와 기체 유로(반응 가스 또는 연료)의 흐름방향 단면의 폭 또는 단면적을 조절할 수 있고, 이에 따라 압력손실 및 액체 흐름 방향 등을 조절할 수 있다.
도 5 및 도 8을 참조하면, 분리판 내의 기체 흐름(반응 가스 또는 연료)(채널 요소 내부)과 액체(예를 들어, 물) 흐름(채널 요소 외부)을 효율적으로 분배할 수 있고, 분리판 내의 기체 흐름과 액체(예를 들어, 물) 흐름을 최적화할 수 있다. 특히, 기체 유로와 액체 유로의 흐름 방향 단면의 폭의 비를 크게 하여, 작은 단면적을 갖는 유로에서 액체의 응축이 더 빨리 일어날 수 있도록 유도한다.
또한, 작은 단면적을 갖는 상대적으로 좁은 폭(w2)의 유로는 액체 흐름을 위한 액체 유로가 되고, 큰 단면적을 갖는 상대적으로 넓은 폭(w1)의 유로는 기체 흐름(반응 가스 등)을 위한 기체 유로가 됨으로써, 기체와 액체의 흐름영역을 효과적으로 분리시킬 수 있다.
도 9는 본 발명의 일 실시예와 관련된 분리판을 나타내는 평면도이고, 도 10는 도 9에 도시된 분리판에서의 유체 흐름을 설명하기 위한 사시도이며, 도 11은 본 발명의 일 실시예와 관련된 분리판을 나타내는 모식도이다.
채널 요소(110)는, 유입구(111) 및 유출구(112)를 연결하는 가상의 축(L)이 분리판(100)의 제1 면(101)의 가로축(예를 들어, x축) 및 세로축(예를 들어, y축)에 대하여 소정 각도(θ)로 각각 경사지도록 마련될 수 있다. 이와 같은 구조에서, 가스 유로와 물 유로는 도 9b에 도시된 바와 같이 각각 형성될 수 있다.
도 11을 참조하면, 각각의 채널 요소(110)의 배열은 다양하게 설정될 수 있고, 또한, 각각의 채널 요소(110)의 경사각도는 서로 상이하게 설정될 수도 있다.
위에서 설명된 본 발명의 바람직한 실시예는 예시의 목적을 위해 개시된 것이고, 본 발명에 대한 통상의 지식을 가지는 당업자라면 본 발명의 사상과 범위 안에서 다양한 수정, 변경, 부가가 가능할 것이며, 이러한 수정, 변경 및 부가는 하기의 특허청구범위에 속하는 것으로 보아야 할 것이다.
본 발명에 따르면, 연료전지 스택에서, 전지화학반응으로 생성되거나, 반응가스 중 수분의 응축에 의해 발생한 물을 효율적으로 배출시킬 수 있으며, 이에 따라 플러딩(flooding) 현상을 최소화할 수 있고, 분리판과 가스 확산층의 전기적 접촉면적을 확장시킬 수 있다.
Claims (19)
- 제1 면과 제1 면의 반대방향의 제2 면을 가지고, 제2 면에서 제1 면 측으로 돌출된 복수 개의 채널 요소를 가지며,채널 요소는, 제1 면 상에서 유동하는 유체의 흐름방향에 따라 유입구 및 유출구를 각각 갖도록 마련되고, 유입구와 유출구를 연결하는 가상의 축의 둘레방향을 따라 높이가 가변하는 리브를 가지며,리브는 외주면의 적어도 일부 영역이 가상의 축의 둘레방향을 따라 사이클로이드(cycloid) 곡면으로 형성된 분리판.
- 제 1 항에 있어서,유입구 및 유출구 중 적어도 하나는, 흐름방향 단면이 가상의 축에 대하여 경사지도록 마련된 분리판.
- 제 2 항에 있어서,유입구 및 유출구는 각각의 흐름방향 단면이 제1 면으로부터 멀어질수록 가까워지도록 마련된 분리판.
- 제 1 항에 있어서,복수 개의 채널요소는, 제1 면의 가로 방향 및 세로 방향을 따라 각각 소정 간격으로 이격 배열된 분리판.
- 제 4 항에 있어서,인접하는 2개의 채널요소는 유체의 흐름방향에 따라 어느 한 채널요소의 유출구와 다른 채널요소의 유입구가 적어도 일부 중첩되도록 배열된 분리판.
- 제 1 항에 있어서,채널 요소는, 유입구 및 유출구를 연결하는 가상의 축이 제1 면의 가로축 및 세로축에 대하여 각각 경사지도록 마련된 분리판.
- 막-전극 접합체;막-전극 접합체의 일면에 마련된 가스 확산층; 및가스 확산층과 마주보도록 배치된 제1 면 및 제1 면의 반대방향의 제2 면을 가지고, 가스 확산층과 접촉하도록 제2 면에서 제1 면 측으로 돌출된 복수 개의 채널 요소를 갖는 분리판을 포함하며,채널 요소는, 제1 면 상에서 유동하는 반응 가스의 흐름방향에 따라 유입구 및 유출구를 각각 갖도록 마련되고, 유입구와 유출구를 연결하는 가상의 축의 둘레방향을 따라 높이가 가변하는 리브를 가지며,리브는 외주면의 적어도 일부 영역이 가상의 축의 둘레방향을 따라 사이클로이드(cycloid) 곡면으로 형성된 연료전지 스택.
- 제 7 항에 있어서,인접하는 2개의 리브의 외주면으로 형성된 공간으로 물이 유동하도록 마련된 연료전지 스택.
- 제 7 항에 있어서,유입구는 흐름방향 단면의 크기가 인접하는 2개의 리브의 외주면으로 형성된 단면의 크기보다 크게 형성된 연료전지 스택.
- 제 7 항에 있어서,유입구 및 유출구 중 적어도 하나는, 흐름방향 단면이 가상의 축에 대하여 경사지도록 마련된 연료전지 스택.
- 제 10 항에 있어서,유입구 및 유출구는 가스 확산층에 가까워질수록 각각의 흐름방향 단면이 가까워지도록 마련된 연료전지 스택.
- 제 7 항에 있어서,복수 개의 채널요소는, 제1 면의 가로 방향 및 세로 방향을 따라 각각 소정 간격으로 이격 배열된 연료전지 스택.
- 제 7 항에 있어서,인접하는 2개의 채널요소는 유체의 흐름방향에 따라 어느 한 채널요소의 유출구와 다른 채널요소의 유입구가 적어도 일부 중첩되도록 배열된 연료전지 스택.
- 제 7 항에 있어서,채널 요소는, 유입구 및 유출구를 연결하는 가상의 축이 분리판의 가로축 및 세로축에 대하여 각각 경사지도록 마련된 연료전지 스택.
- 금속 플레이트에 채널 요소의 유입구 및 유출구로 형성될 복수 개의 구멍이 형성되도록 펀칭하는 펀칭 단계; 및채널 요소의 유입구 및 유출구가 될 한 쌍의 구멍 사이의 영역이 돌출되도록 스탬핑하는 스탬핑 단계를 포함하는 분리판의 제조방법.
- 제 15 항에 있어서,구멍은 다각형 형상을 갖도록 형성되는 분리판의 제조방법.
- 제 16 항에 있어서,구멍은 사각형 또는 사다리꼴 형상을 갖도록 형성되는 분리판의 제조방법.
- 제 16 항에 있어서,한 쌍의 영역은 돌출될 영역을 기준으로 대칭된 형상을 갖도록 형성되는 분리판의 제조방법.
- 제 15 항에 있어서,금속 플레이트의 두께는 0.2mm 이하이고,스탬핑 단계에서 한 쌍의 구멍 사이의 영역의 돌출 높이는 0.2mm 내지 0.45mm인 분리판의 제조방법.
