Description
A SYSTEM WHICH CAN OPACIFY BACKSIDE OF TRANSPARENT SCREENS USING ELECTRONIC CONTROL
Technological Area:
This invention is related to a system which can opacify backsides of transparent screens through electronic control, which transparent screens can be used to electronically opacify and make transparent (transforming into a frosted glass look) the backsides of transparent screens used in glass-door refrigerators, ovens, advertisement boards, automats and disposition-exposure units in airports, public locations and sale points.
Currently Known Status of the Technic:
Currently the transparent screens developed by liquid crystal screens such as Samsung and LG, which screens are known as "transparent LCD", are integrated to refrigerators, automats and various similar disposition, exposure and advertisement units.
Using the screens in the current system, while the products in a unit can be shown, also their videos and animations can be displayed, aiming to advertise to the consumers at sale points. On the other hand, polymer dispersed liquid crystal film applications, which are sold under the name "smart window", are used in various fields today. The structure of these polymer dispersed liquid crystal films enable these films to become transparent when electrified, and when they are under no electrical charge, they have an opaque (frosty) appearance. These films are used in optionally opacifying windows and glass walls in houses and offices, and also car windows. These films are used as a practical alternative in curtains and similar appliances since they can instantly turn opaque or transparent, a glass which they have been applied to.
The fundamental problem, which is encountered in transparent-screen refrigerators and disposition, exposure and advertisement applications today, is interference of the
appearance of the products at the background with the video on the screen, therefore rendering the video incomprehensible. Especially when consumers interrupt alignment of products and topple the shelves while taking the products, the videos become even more distorted. Due to the structure of transparent screens, the image displayed on the screen can only cover the background when it is completely black. Therefore, these screens can do a limited work of hiding the background image at will. Image quality is therefore low, due to low brightness and low color quality.
"A cooler" is described in the application for the utility model no TR200800697. The invention refers to a display refrigerator with slide-in opening, glass windows, automatic and self-closing doors or at a vertical position with open front and including cooler and fan, which refrigerator is used to preserve dairy products such as yogurt, yogurt drink, milk, etc. and keeping products such as water, soft drinks, etc. cold at groceries, gas stations, kiosks, etc.
A "supermarket refrigerator" is described in the patent application with the publication no US20090314021. A "Supermarket refrigerator" is described in the patent application with the publication no WO2008007314. A "Supermarket refrigerator" is described in the patent application with the publication no EP2043485. An "Internet-connected smart refrigerator" is described in the patent application with the publication no CN203550407.
In the utility model application with publication no TR 201307260, steel doors which enable displaying/watching of previously recorded videos, photographs or animations on a touch or flat LCD, LED, OLED or similar screen with transparent screen feature, which screen is placed on a door wing, are described.
The utility model application with publication no CN203749040 refers to a showcase with a feature of displaying previously recorded videos using a transparent screen.
The utility model application with publication no CN203182481 refers to a luggage box/suitcase with a feature of displaying videos on an LCD touchscreen,
Transparent-screen units are described in above mentioned utility model/patent applications. Some of the mentioned systems cannot have any advertorial functions. Mentioned systems do not enable advertising on refrigerators using videos, pictures, etc. tools. Some of these systems have a transparent screen technology which enables displaying/watching previously recorded videos, photographs or animations, albeit with a lower image quality due to low color depth and brightness.
As a result, a new technology, which enables setting the level of transparency during video display and increasing image quality by enhancing color depth, brightness and resolution, is needed when videos are being displayed in transparent screens, in order to overcome above-mentioned problems.
Description of Invention: This invention is the system which can opacify the backside of a transparent screen using electronic control, therefore overcoming above-mentioned problems, and its feature is that it includes a dispersed liquid polymer crystal film, which is placed at the backside of a transparent screen and is electronically controlled, and of which transparency can be changed, and electronic control card unit, which are developed for transparent screen refrigerators, sale automats, ovens, advertising boards, disposition- exposure and marketing units and showcases.
Said product can also update opening and closing times of its video content and videos. Image quality and color resolution is enhanced in this product, due to the use of PDLC. The invention can be used in all transparent- screen glass-door cooling storages, showcases, ovens, advertising boards, disposition and exposure units and automats. The fundamental problem of video mixing with the background, which is encountered in transparent screens, is therefore eliminated. While eliminating this problem, also transparency of the transparent screen can be used anytime desired. The same system can also be used in imaging systems with backside projection. For example, while a showcase glass enables displaying of the mannequin within the showcase, it can also become opaque and display an image projected onto it. With the invention, transparent
screen units are able to display the products at the background while displaying videos. Due to low image quality compared to other transparent screen units, interactive applications that are used with a touchscreen cannot be provided. Interactive applications are possible with this invention.
Since components constituting the invention are easily integrated, the product can easily be established and costs are low due to short assembly time. In addition, the invention has a sturdy structure. Structural and characteristic features of the invention, together with the advantages it brings, will be better understood with the figures and captions below.

Detailed Description of the Invention:
The invention has a polymer dispersed liquid crystal film (PDLC) (3), of which the level of transparency can be changed and which is fixed at the backside of the transparent screen (2), and an electronic control card (4) unit (Figure- 1). The purpose of the invention is to prevent appearing of the products behind the screen with the use of a polymer dispersed liquid crystal film (PDLC) (3), which is managed via an electronic
control card that is controlled by a computer or a processor, in marketing units with a transparent screen (2). This prevents products in the background from distorting the image on the screen (Figure- 1). Thanks to the invention, while a video is being displayed in the transparent screen (2), the polymer dispersed liquid crystal film (PDLC) (3) behind the screen can be turned to transparent or opaque (frosty look), therefore enabling displaying or hiding of products at will (Figure- 1).
In transparent screen (2) units, a polymer dispersed liquid crystal film (PDLC) (3) is fixed inside the transparent screen (2) which is placed on the cover of refrigerators (1) (Figure-1). Another method for fixing polymer dispersed liquid crystal film (PDLC) (3) is to fix the transparent screen (2) at the backside by plastering (Figure-1). Videos and visual content are transferred to the transparent screen (2) using a computer system assembled to a convenient location in the refrigerator (Figure-1). On the other hand, the electronic control card (4), which is connected to the computer and manages the polymer dispersed liquid crystal film (PDLC) (3), is assembled to the unit (Figure-1). While a computer or media player sends the video or digital content to the transparent screen (2), it also can turn the polymer dispersed liquid crystal film (PDLC) (3) into opaque (frosty look) or transparent via the electronic control card (4) (Figure-1). Thanks to this, the inside content of a refrigerator does not disturb the content in the video (Figure-1). However, when desired, inside of the refrigerator can be shown during specific points in the video (Figure-1).
