Description

DESCRIPTION
CYLINDER BLOCK WITH EGR COOLER HOUSING Field of the Invention
The present invention relates to a cylinder block with an EGR cooler housing which has housing and parts in which the EGR cooler can be mounted on the engine cylinder block.
Background of the Invention
In internal combustion engines, there are harmful gases such as carbon monoxide (CO), nitrogen oxide (NOx), hydrocarbon (HC) as a result of combustion. The emission of harmful gases generated as a result of combustion directly to the atmosphere is very dangerous and forbidden in terms of environmental and human health. The harmful gases generated as a result of combustion should be lowered to the values determined by the regulations before releasing to the atmosphere. In internal combustion engine-powered vehicles, there are several systems and applications in order to reduce the harmful gases to acceptable emission levels. One of these applications is exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system. In EGR system, some part of exhaust gases is included into the combustion process. The gases included into the combustion process do not burn in the engine; they reduce combustion temperature in the engine and enable the harmful gases to be discharged from the exhaust system. By means of EGR system, combustion temperature is reduced, and the generation of nitrogen oxide gas is decreased. In the system, EGR cooler is used in order to send more gas to the combustion chamber by increasing the density of the gas. EGR cooler is placed different places around the engine depending on the engine package, and it is fixed on placed where it is located differently. Connecting members and carriers have to be placed around the engine for the mounting of EGR cooler, and these procedures cause additional weight and space loss.
The EGR coolers used today are mostly fixed somewhere close to the engine or somewhere on the engine. A connection is made between the place where the EGR cooler is fixed and the engine, and thus exhaust gases are enabled to be cooled.
Japanese Patent document no JP2001132556 (A), an application known in the state of the art, discloses a cooling device used for EGR and oil. In the device, there is a housing part which is directly connected to the cylinder block and EGR and oil heat exchanger. Therefore, the pipes directing the coolant to the cooler housing are eliminated. In the said patent document, there is no explanation about mounting the EGR cooler into a housing on the engine block, or how it can be mounted. There are obvious differences between the Japanese Patent document and the invention of the present application in terms of forming a housing on the cylinder block for EGR cooler and fixing the EGR cooler into this housing with the connecting members. The EGR cooler is mounted into the cylinder block with the invention of the present application. Therefore, an extra space is not needed for the EGR block and connection is enabled to be easy.
The German patent document no. DE102012013884 (Al), an application in the state of the art, discloses a fastening assembly used in the cylinder head. In the fastening assembly, there is a clamping strip which fixes the attachment unit to the cylinder head. In the clamping strip, there is a positioning element which fixes the cylinder head. In the said patent document, there is no explanation about mounting the EGR cooler into a housing on the engine block. There are obvious differences between the German Patent document and the invention of the present application in terms of forming a housing on the cylinder block for EGR cooler and fixing the EGR cooler into this housing with the connecting members. The EGR cooler is mounted into the cylinder block with the invention of the present application. Therefore, an extra space is not needed for the EGR block and connection is enabled to be easy.
In the current applications, EGR cooler is generally placed on the engine or somewhere close to the engine block. Therefore it is targeted to form a compact structure for cooling the combustion gas. In the current applications, mounting the EGR cooler into a housing on the cylinder block is not disclosed. It is not disclosed that a special housing is made on the engine cylinder block is formed during casting for the EGR cooleT, and the EGR cooler is directly mounted into the said housing. There is no explanation about the members completely fitting on the engine cylinder block according to the form of the EGR cooler and mounting the cooler to the cylinder block with the connecting members integrated to the said housing. The Objective of the Invention
The objective of the present invention is to provide a cylinder block with EGR cooler housing wherein there is an area on the engine cylinder block in which the EGR cooler can be mounted.
Another objective of the present invention is to provide a cylinder block with EGR cooler housing which enables the EGR cooler to be mounted on the cylinder block. A further objective of the present invention is to provide a cylinder block with EGR cooler housing which does not take extra space on the vehicle, provides ease of packing and wherein the engine weight is decreased.
Summary of the Invention By means of the cylinder block with EGR cooler housing disclosed in the first claim and the other claims dependent to the said claim realized to achieve' the objective of the present invention, there is no need for separating an extra space for mounting EGR cooler, and more compact design is achieved inside the hood. An area is formed on the block for EGR cooler during casting the cylinder block. The said area on the cylinder block is preferably in form of EGR cooler or it is close to this form. EGR cooler area is preferably obtained by forming base and side surface on the body and connecting them. The EGR cooler is placed on this area on the body or within the body and fixed with the connecting members. Therefore, a compact area on which EGR cooler can be mounted with the engine cylinder block is formed, and the cooler is mounted here. Therefore, the cooler is placed close to the place where it is to be used, and there is no need for planning and extra space for the cooler. Detailed Description of the Invention
