Definitions
- the invention relates to a method for producing a package assembly.
- the invention also relates to a package assembly and a blank to be shaped into a secondary package.
- portion packages In the food packaging industry food is packaged into different types of packages, distributed to storing locations for further distribution to retail stores where the food is sold to the end consumer.
- Packages for beverages such as fruit juices, still drinks and also dairy products or derivate thereof can be divided into portion packages and family packages. Those packages differ mainly by their respective volume size and consequently weight. Particularly, portion packs are available in different volumes ranging from about 80ml to several 100ml. Portion packages are normally consumed at once and due to their smaller volume suitable not only for adults, but also for children or teenagers.
- items associated with the content of the primary package are to be enclosed with the same when the product is sold to a customer.
- the item may be placed in a supplementary package.
- the item could be a straw inside a plastic bag attached to the primary package.
- such supplementary packages with items are often attached to the exterior of the primary package.
- the end consumer intends to use the attached item, the supplementary package is ripped off from the primary package and the end consumer will then open the supplementary package to reach the item.
- a problem with the supplementary package is the mounting and/or attaching of the same to the primary package. There is thus a need for improving the state of the art and to provide an efficient mounting solution for the supplementary package to the primary package.
- the method comprises the step of attaching a
- the primary package may be manufactured and filled at one site, and the secondary package manufactured at another site where it also may be provided with the supplementary package accommodating an item.
- the secondary package may later on, at any suitable place, be attached to one or several primary packages to retain the same and/or to create rigidity for the primary package(s).
- that secondary package may be provided with one supplementary package for each primary package, all in the same process. Accordingly, the efficiency of the manufacturing process of the overall package assembly (including the primary package) will be further increased.
- the step of attaching the supplementary package to the secondary package may comprise attaching a first portion of the supplementary package to a removable cover of the secondary package.
- the method may further comprise the step of attaching a second portion of the supplementary package to a portion of the secondary package different from the removable cover or to a portion of the primary package. With such an arrangement the supplementary package will automatically be opened when the cover is removed from the package assembly by the consumer.
- the method may also comprise the step of attaching the secondary package to the primary package.
- a package assembly comprising a supplementary package adapted to contain an item, and a secondary package adapted to be attached to a primary package.
- the supplementary package is attached to the secondary package, such that the supplementary package is arranged in a space formed between the secondary package and the primary package when the secondary package is attached to the primary package.
- the primary package may be adapted to contain a product and supplementary package may be adapted to contain an item which is associated with said product.
- the package assembly may further comprise a primary package to which the secondary package is attached.
- the secondary package has a removable portion which is separated from the remaining part of the secondary package by weakened lines.
- the supplementary package may be attached to the removable portion. With such an arrangement the supplementary package will follow the cover when the cover is removed from the package assembly. The risk of the supplementary package, and thus the item, getting stuck in the space is thereby eliminated.
- a blank to be shaped into a secondary package has a main panel being separated by a weakened line in a longitudinal direction to form a plurality of main portions, each main portion being adapted to receive supplementary package accommodating an item.
- the weakened line may comprise a perforated portion and/or a cut- though portion.
- the perforated portion may be perforated with different fineness. These portions are provided in order to facilitate the separation of the main portions from each other.
- the blank has a main panel and/or a top panel and/or a bottom panel.
- the top panel and or bottom panel is separated from the main panel by a crease line in a lateral direction, wherein the main portion is adapted to receive supplementary package
- longitudinal direction it is meant the vertical direction of the package assembly when viewed from the front.
- lateral direction it is meant the horizontal direction of the package assembly when viewed from the front.
