Description
Method for operating a driver assistance system of a motor vehicle with electronic rearview mirror, driver assistance system as well as motor vehicle
The present invention relates to a method for operating a driver assistance system of a motor vehicle, in which an electronic rearview mirror of the driver assistance system is operated during travel of the motor vehicle and herein an image sequence of an environmental region, which is located laterally besides the motor vehicle and/or behind the motor vehicle, is captured by means of at least one camera, and a display is provided on a display device based on the captured image sequence. In addition, the invention relates to a driver assistance system for a motor vehicle. Finally, the present invention relates to a motor vehicle.
Presently, the interest is in particular directed to driver assistance systems for motor vehicles. Such driver assistance systems serve for assisting the driver in driving the motor vehicle. Presently, in particular driver assistance systems are to be considered, which have a so-called electronic rearview mirror. Such an electronic rearview mirror can also be referred to as Camera Monitoring System (CMS) or as e-mirror. The electronic rearview mirror usually includes multiple cameras, which are disposed distributed on the motor vehicle and by which the environmental region of the motor vehicle can be captured in the form of an image sequence or in the form of video data. This video data can then be presented to the driver of the motor vehicle on a corresponding display device. In particular the regions, which otherwise can be seen with conventional rearview mirrors of the motor vehicle, can be captured by the cameras. The conventional rearview mirrors having a light reflecting surface can be replaced with an electronic rearview mirror.
In this context, US 2012/0314072 A1 describes a device for image generation for a motor vehicle. The device can provide an image showing the environment of the motor vehicle. Further, it can be detected if the exterior mirrors of the motor vehicle are swung in or swung out. If the mirrors are swung in, the regions laterally besides the motor vehicle can be presented to the driver during travel of the motor vehicle on a corresponding display device.
It is the object of the present invention to demonstrate a solution, how a driver assistance system of the initially mentioned kind, which includes an electronic rearview mirror, can be more reliably operated.
According to the invention, this object is solved by a method, by a driver assistance system as well as by a motor vehicle having the features according to the respective independent claims. Advantageous implementations of the invention are the subject matter of the dependent claims, of the description and of the figures.
A method according to the invention serves for operating a driver assistance system of a motor vehicle. Therein, an electronic rearview mirror of the driver assistance system is operated during travel of the motor vehicle and herein an image sequence of an environmental region of the motor vehicle, which is laterally besides the motor vehicle and/or behind the motor vehicle, is captured by means of a camera. In addition, a display is provided on a display device based on the captured image sequence. The electronic rearview mirror is additionally operated in a stop of the motor vehicle if at least one activation criterion is satisfied, wherein the at least one activation criterion includes that a drive engine of the motor vehicle is turned off.
In the method, an electronic rearview mirror of the driver assistance system is activated during the travel of the motor vehicle. Thus, the electronic rearview mirror is activated if the drive engine of the motor vehicle is turned on and/or the motor vehicle is moved. The electronic rearview mirror, which can also be referred to as Camera Monitoring System (CMS), includes at least one camera, by which at least a part of the environmental region of the motor vehicle can be captured. Presently, the environmental region laterally besides the motor vehicle and/or behind the motor vehicle is captured by the at least one camera. Thus, an image sequence or video data is provided by the at least one camera, which depicts the environmental region besides the motor vehicle and/or behind the motor vehicle. The electronic rearview mirror can for example include three cameras. One of the cameras can be disposed in a rear area of the motor vehicle. Further, the two other cameras can be disposed laterally on the motor vehicle. The image sequences or video data provided by the cameras can be correspondingly combined and presented on a display device of the motor vehicle. The display device can have at least one screen disposed in an interior of the motor vehicle.
The present invention is based on the realization that the required safety usually cannot be ensured by an electronic rearview mirror upon a stop of the motor vehicle. If the motor vehicle is turned off for stopping and/or for parking and the drive engine of the motor vehicle is turned off, usually, the electronic rearview mirror is also turned off. This entails that the occupants of the motor vehicle can no longer see the region laterally on and/or behind the motor vehicle by means of the electronic rearview mirror. This is in particular
obstructive if the motor vehicle does not include a conventional rearview mirror having light reflecting surfaces. This entails that a collision with further traffic participants impends for the occupants of the motor vehicle upon exiting the motor vehicle.
Presently, it is provided that the electronic rearview mirror is additionally operated in stopping the motor vehicle if at least one activation criterion is satisfied, wherein the at least one activation criterion includes that a drive engine of the motor vehicle is turned off. Presently, the electronic rearview mirror is therefore activated if the motor vehicle stops and the drive engine of the motor vehicle is turned off. The stop of the motor vehicle presently describes the case, in which the driver turns off the motor vehicle to leave it. Presently, the term "stopping" in particular is not to describe the state, in which the motor vehicle for example stands waiting at the traffic light. If the motor vehicle stops, it can for example be examined by a control device of the driver assistance system if at least one activation criterion is satisfied. If the driver of the motor vehicle turns off the motor vehicle and deactivates the drive engine, the electronic rearview mirror is activated. It can also be the case that the electronic rearview mirror remains activated in stopping the motor vehicle and in turning off the drive engine. Thus, the driver and/or the further vehicle occupants can observe the traffic laterally besides the motor vehicle and/or behind the motor vehicle by means of the electronic rearview mirror. In this manner, collisions with further traffic participants in exiting can be prevented.
Preferably, the at least one activation criterion includes that a deactivation of an ignition of the motor vehicle is detected. The driver assistance system can include a corresponding sensor device, by which it can be examined if the ignition of the motor vehicle is activated or deactivated. If the ignition of the motor vehicle is deactivated, a corresponding signal can be transmitted from the sensor device to the control device via a vehicle data bus. The at least one safety criterion can also include that pulling out an ignition key of the motor vehicle is detected. Thus, the driver can be assisted in exiting by the electronic rearview mirror.
In a further embodiment, the at least on activation criterion includes that an approach of an occupant of the motor vehicle to a door handle of a door of the motor vehicle and/or a touch of a door handle by the occupant are detected. For example, the driver assistance system can include a corresponding proximity sensor, for example a capacitive or an optical sensor, by which approach of a body part, for example of a hand, of an occupant to the door handle can be recognized. Alternatively, the sensor device can recognize a touch of a door handle by the body part of the occupant. Therein, the approach and/or the touch
by the body part can be recognized on the door handle within and/or the door handle outside of the motor vehicle. Thus, it can for example be recognized if an occupant wishes to leave the turned off motor vehicle.
In a further embodiment, the at least one activation criterion includes that an opening of the door is detected. Hereto, the driver assistance system can have a corresponding sensor device, by means of which it can be recognized if one or more doors of the motor vehicle are in a closed position or in an open position. Thus, it can be reliably recognized that an occupant of the motor vehicle wishes to leave the motor vehicle and/or if an occupant wishes to enter the motor vehicle.
Furthermore, it is advantageous if the at least one activation criterion includes that a predetermined movement of the motor vehicle is detected. Thus, a sensor device in the form of a camera can for example be disposed in the interior of the motor vehicle. If a certain movement pattern of the occupant is recognized, which indicates that the occupant wishes to leave the motor vehicle, this can be transmitted to the control device of the driver assistance system as the activation criterion. Hereto, a seat occupation sensor can additionally be used as the sensor device. Furthermore, it can be detected if a vehicle occupant unbuckles himself. Thus, it can be reliably recognized if the occupant wishes to exit the motor vehicle.
Furthermore, it is preferably provided that the at least one activation criterion includes that exiting the motor vehicle and/or entering at least one motor vehicle by an occupant is recognized. As described above, based on the approach and/or touch of the door handle, based on opening the door and/or based on the movement of the occupant, it can be recognized if the occupant wishes to exit the motor vehicle. If this is recognized, this can be output as the activation criterion for activating the electronic rearview mirror.
Furthermore, it can be provided that the desire of entering of the occupant is recognized. Hereto, the touch and/or the approach to an exterior door handle, the data of an interior camera, the data of a seat occupation sensor and/or the recognition of opening the door can be used. Thus, the electronic rearview mirror can for example be activated already before starting the drive engine. In this case, the electronic rearview mirror can also be activated if the driver enters the motor vehicle and subsequently wishes to exit it again without starting the drive engine. For example, this can be the case if the driver wishes to take an item located in the motor vehicle out of the motor vehicle.
Furthermore, it is advantageous if the electronic rearview mirror is deactivated upon stop of the motor vehicle after elapse of a predetermined period of time. In that the electronic rearview mirror is deactivated after a predetermined period of time with turned off drive engine, it can be ensured that an electrical energy storage, for example a battery, of the motor vehicle is not unnecessarily loaded. Thus, it can for example be guaranteed that the battery is not discharged by the operation of the electronic rearview mirror. The period of time, after which the electronic rearview mirror is deactivated, can for example be preset by user input.
In a further embodiment, the electronic rearview mirror is deactivated after locking the motor vehicle. If the driver or the vehicle occupant has left the motor vehicle, the doors of the motor vehicle are locked and the motor vehicle is locked, the electronic rearview mirror can be deactivated. Herein, it can additionally be detected if at least one door of the motor vehicle is first opened and subsequently closed before locking the motor vehicle. Thus, it can be reliably assumed that the driver or the vehicle occupant has left the motor vehicle and he does no longer require the electronic rearview mirror.
A driver assistance system according to the invention for a motor vehicle is adapted to perform a method according to the invention. The driver assistance system preferably includes an electronic rearview mirror and at least one sensor device for detecting the at least one activation criterion. The electronic rearview mirror can include at least one camera, a display device and a control device. In particular, the electronic rearview mirror can include multiple cameras, which are disposed distributed on the motor vehicle. For example, the electronic rearview mirror can include two lateral cameras and a rear camera. The control device can for example be constituted by an electronic control unit of the motor vehicle. By the at least one sensor device, the operating state of the drive engine, the approach and/or the touch of the door handle, opening at least one door, movement of an occupant of the motor vehicle, a seat occupation, the state of a belt buckle or the like can be detected as the activation criterion.
A motor vehicle according to the invention includes a driver assistance system according to the invention. The motor vehicle is in particular formed as a passenger car.
Preferably, the motor vehicle is formed devoid of exterior mirrors. The motor vehicle can also be formed devoid of reflecting mirrors. In other words, the motor vehicle does not include exterior mirrors or wing mirrors. The motor vehicle can also be formed without rearview mirror. In particular, the motor vehicle does not include mirrors or mirror surfaces
reflecting light. Preferably, the conventional rearview mirrors are replaced with the electronic rearview mirror.
The preferred embodiments presented with respect to the method according to the invention and the advantages thereof correspondingly apply to the driver assistance system according to the invention as well as to the motor vehicle according to the invention.

turn includes an electronic rearview mirror 3. The electronic rearview mirror 3 includes at least one camera 4. In the present embodiment, the electronic rearview mirror 3 includes four cameras 4. Therein, one of the cameras 4 is disposed in a rear area 5 of the motor vehicle 1 . The remaining two cameras 4 are disposed in respective lateral areas 6 of the motor vehicle 1 . By the cameras 4, an environmental region 7 can be captured, which is laterally besides the motor vehicle 1 and/or behind the motor vehicle 1 .
The electronic rearview mirror 3 further includes a control device 8. The control device 8 can for example be constituted by an electronic control unit of the motor vehicle 1 . An image sequence or video data is provided by the cameras 4, which depicts the environmental region 7. This image sequences or video data can be transmitted from the cameras 4 to the control device 8 via a corresponding data line not illustrated here. In addition, the electronic rearview mirror 3 includes a display device 9. A display on the display device 9 can be controlled by means of the control device 8. Thus, the image sequences or video data provided by the cameras 4 can for example be displayed on the display device 9. In the present embodiment, the motor vehicle 1 does not include conventional rearview mirrors. In particular, the region or the environmental region 7 is presented on the display device 9 to the driver or the occupant of the motor vehicle 1 , which he otherwise can see with the aid of the rearview mirror.
Further, the driver assistance system 2 includes a drive state sensor 10. By the drive state sensor 10, it can be detected if the motor vehicle 1 moves or if the motor vehicle 1 is stationary. Hereto, the current speed of the motor vehicle 1 can for example be detected. Further, the driver assistance system 2 includes a first sensor device 1 1 , by means of which it can be detected if a drive engine of the motor vehicle 1 is turned on or turned off. In addition, by the first sensor device 1 1 , it can be detected if an ignition of the motor vehicle 1 is activated or deactivated. Moreover, the driver assistance system 2 includes a second sensor device 12. By the second sensor device 12, it can be detected if the doors 13 of the motor vehicle 1 are opened or closed. The driver assistance system 2 can have further sensor devices not illustrated in more detail here, by which for example a touch of a door handle of the motor vehicle 1 can be detected. Further, the sensor device can be provided in the form of an interior camera, by which a movement of an occupant of the motor vehicle 1 can be detected.
During the travel of the motor vehicle 1 , the electronic rearview mirror 3 is activated. This means that image sequences of the environmental region 7 are captured by the cameras 4 and at least parts of these image sequences are presented on the display device 9. In
addition, it is provided that the electronic rearview mirror 3 is also activated if the motor vehicle 1 stops. The stop of the motor vehicle can be recognized by the drive state sensor 10. In addition to the stop of the motor vehicle 1 , at least one activation criterion has to be satisfied. This activation criterion is recognized by means of the control device 8 based on the data of the first sensor device 1 1 and/or the second sensor device 12. This is exemplarily explained in connection with Fig. 2.
Fig. 2 shows a schematic illustration of the control device 8. The control device 8 is connected to the sensor devices 1 1 , 12 and the vehicle state sensor 10 via a vehicle bus 14 or via a network. The vehicle bus 14 can for example be a CAN bus or an Ethernet connection. Upon stop of the motor vehicle 1 , the electronic rearview mirror 3 can be deactivated. Presently, this is illustrated by the area 15. Further, the electronic rearview mirror 3 can be activated. Presently, this is illustrated by the area 16. If at least one activation criterion is satisfied upon stop of the motor vehicle 1 , the electronic rearview mirror 3 can be transferred from the deactivated state to the activated state. Presently, this is illustrated by the arrow 17. This is the case if at least one activation criterion is satisfied upon stop of the motor vehicle 1 . The activation criterion includes that the drive engine of the motor vehicle 1 is turned off. Further, the activation criterion can for example be satisfied that the door 13 of the motor vehicle 1 is opened. The electronic rearview mirror 3 can also be turned off again. This is illustrated by the arrow 18. For example, the electronic rearview mirror 3 can be deactivated upon stop of the motor vehicle 1 after a predetermined period of time. It can also be provided that the electronic rearview mirror 3 is turned off after locking the motor vehicle 1 .
Based on the at least one activation criterion provided by the sensor devices 1 1 , 12, it can for example be recognized that the occupant wishes to leave the motor vehicle 1 . In that in this case the electronic rearview mirror is also activated upon stop of the motor vehicle 1 , the occupant can see the environmental region 7 laterally besides the motor vehicle 1 and/or behind the motor vehicle 1 . Thus, collision upon exiting the motor vehicle 1 can be prevented.
