Description
DESCRIPTION
IMPACT ABSORBER TECHNICAL FIELD
The invention relates to the under-trailer clearance found under the rear sides of trailers used for carrying cargos on large and wide vehicles such as trucks and articulated lorries, between the rearmost wheel group and the trailer end, and poses high risk for other smaller vehicles such as cars that come from behind and cannot stop in the event of an accident.
The invention particularly relates to an impact absorbing structure, which prevents smaller vehicles such as cars that come from behind and cannot stop in the event of an accident from getting under the trailers of trucks and articulated lorries, and which minimizes the collision energy during the accident and accordingly the possible loss of lives and properties.
PRIOR ART
Nowadays, transportation as one of the most important elements of trade is generally carried out as marine, air, and land transportation. Among these, although marine and air transportation play a significant role in transportation, land transportation also has great importance, since it is more economic and effective in short distances.
In addition to railroads, trucks and articulated lorries (18-wheelers) that are large and wide play the biggest role in land transportation. These vehicles can carry all dry and wet commercial products ranging from fuels to electronics, and automotive to food. Thousands of large and wide vehicles such as tracks and articulated lorries used for land transportation are en route on highways every day, and this increases the rate of traffic accidents involving said vehicles. The traffic accidents involving such vehicles are generally those where smaller sized vehicles such as cars come from behind, cannot stop, and get stuck and crushed under the trailers of trucks or
articulated lorries, which result in substantial loss of life and property. The section located at the rear side and below the trailers and between the rear wheel group and the trailer end of large vehicles such as articulated lorries used for land transportation is empty. Said clearance poses great danger for smaller sized vehicles such as cars that come from behind and cannot stop in the event of an accident; and it causes such vehicles to get under the trailer, and get stuck and crushed, and therefore results in loss of lives.
In such rear-end collisions, a metal barrier is placed behind trailers in order to prevent smaller sized vehicles such as cars that come from behind and cannot stop from getting under the trailers, and to reduce the impacts of accident and the consequent losses of lives. This metal barrier used behind trailers as a precaution is not effective with regard to the speed of the vehicles which come from behind and cannot stop and the intensity of the accident, it cannot prevent the vehicle from getting under the trailer, and it cannot absorb the generated energy and prevent loss of life.
As a result, the need for eliminating the disadvantages of the currently used trailer structures, preventing the vehicles that come from behind from getting under the trailers and getting crushed in rear-end collisions, and thus minimizing losses of lives has necessitated an improvement in the relevant technical field.
PURPOSE OF THE INVENTION From the known situation of the art, the invention aims to solve the above given problems.
The purpose of the invention is to eliminate the under-trailer clearance which poses danger for vehicles coming from behind in rear-end collisions.
Another purpose of the invention is to prevent the vehicle coming from behind from getting under the trailer in the event of an accident by eliminating the clearance under the trailer.
Another purpose of the invention is to prevent the vehicle coming from behind from getting stuck and crushed by preventing it from getting under the trailer in rear-end collisions.
Another purpose of the invention is to ensure absorption of collision energy end collisions.
Another purpose of the invention is to minimize losses of lives and properties by preventing the vehicle colliding from behind from getting stuck and crushed and by damping of the collision energy.
Structural and characteristic features of the invention and all of its advantages can be understood more clearly through the figures given below and the detailed description making reference to these figures, and therefore assessment should be made by taking these figures and the detailed description into account.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
The invention relates to an impact absorber (100) which prevents smaller sized vehicles such as cars that come from behind and cannot stop, from getting under the trailers (200) of articulated lorries and getting stuck and crushed in the event of a rear-end collision, and thus minimizes the losses of lives and properties.
The impact absorber (100) according to the invention generally comprises a front panel (1 10), a rear panel (120), and a honeycomb structure (130) placed between said front and rear panels (1 10, 120). The honeycomb structure (130) found between the front and rear panels (1 10, 120) which are preferably made of aluminium is surrounded by an intermediate wall (140).
As shown in Figure-2, the impact absorber (100) is placed between the rear wheel group (300) and the end of the trailer (200). The impact absorber (100) is connected below the trailer (200) through an assembly panel (150), and this connection is reinforced by means of support profiles (121 ) which connect the rear panel (120) and the trailer (200). Moreover, components such as the illumination group and the traffic registration plate can be placed behind the trailer (200) thanks to the illumination and licence plate area (1 1 1 ) positioned on the front panel (1 10). In the event of an accident, the first place where a vehicle that comes from behind and cannot stop contacts is the front panel (1 10). With the intensity of the accident, the front panel (1 10) applies pressure on the honeycomb structure (130) found at the interior part, and the honeycomb structure (130) absorbs the intensity of the collision by shrinking and getting collapsed as a result of this pressure. The vehicle that is hindered by the front panel (1 10) and the honeycomb structure (130) as a result of the collision is prevented from getting under the trailer (200). In this way, possible losses of lives and properties are minimized.
The protection area of this application has been specified under claims and cannot be limited to the descriptions only given as sampling above. It is obvious that a person skilled in the related art can apply the innovation disclosed by this invention into similar purposed other areas by means of changing the parts in form and using similar structures. Therefore, it is also clear that such embodiments lack of innovation criteria and especially the criteria of exceeding the known status of the art.
