Description
THE MANUFACTURING METHOD OF TUBULAR EARRING WITH
DIFFERENT PATTERNS AND COLOURS Field of invention
The invention relates to hollow tubular earring manufacture method. The hollow tubular earring is made of laminated silver and copper plates that show different patterns and colours on the earring surface. This invention also relates to metal sintering, intaglio by CNC, metal rolling, metal drawing and tube circular making. Background
This invention is hollow tubular earrings that made of a plurality of silver and copper plates laminated by sintering with heat and pressure or by soldering. The process consists of intaglio on the laminated metal plates by a CNC machine. The laminated stick is rolled in order to expand the stick's pattern and reduce its thickness. After the rolling process, the metal stick is transformed into a metal sheet with wood-like pattern. Then draw the metal sheet to make a metal tube. Then bend the metal tube so as to form circular earring. The techniques to create wood-like pattern is from ancient Japanese techniques called Mokume Gane.
Brief summary of invention
The objective of this invention is to create tubular earring with surface patterns from red colour of copper. The contrast of red colour of copper and metallic silver colour of silver forms beautiful patterns. The reason of using silver and copper is economic reason. The reason of making this invention in to earrings is that copper has reactions with sweat and human skin. The CNC machine is used for intaglio patterns in order to control cost reduction in mass production. The interesting point of this invention is that a numerous number of metal sheets can be drawn into hollow tube earring.
Previously, the manufacture of hollow tubular earring is made from silver or gold with one single metal by roll silver or gold stick to thin metal sheet, drawing metal sheet to round hollow tube then bend said hollow tube to form round tube earring and assembling with ear post. This earring will present one colour of silver or gold only, also some said earring will intaglio surface by carving knife to form diamond cut patterns. The diamond cut patterns will shiny more than surface around it patterns.
Previously, processing to make a Mokume Gane ring comprising, diffusion junction plurality metals plates to make laminated stick, twist said stick, roll to form angle stick shape, drill 2 holes of both end of said stick, saw connect two holes, separate two portions to form a ring. Another method to make Mokume Gane ring comprising diffusion junction plurality metal plates to make laminated stick, drawing said stick to round solid tube form, saw said round solid tube form to half round solid tube, connect two end said half round solid tube to be half round ring by soldering. The method to form Mokume Gane patterns on junction plurality metal plates is made from drill half thick holes on surface of said junction plurality metal plates or repousse back side of said junction plurality metal plates to form dome on front side then file surface of said junction plurality metal plates by half round file, junction plurality metal plates is rolled in order to expand patterns by rolling, prepare core of ring or bangle, inlay said core ring or bangle by said junction plurality metal plates that already form patterns then soldering. Mokume Gane brooch or earring is made from junction plurality metal stick or plates to assembling by hand. All said Mokume Gane jewelry has to use skillful craftstmanship and effect to cost of this kind of jewelry.
Brief description of drawings
FIG. 1 is method to pile up plurality of metal plates. FIG. A is zoom picture of FIG. 1 to present pile up of silver and copper plates.
FIG. 2 is method to place plurality of metal plates in clamping tool.
FIG. 3 is patters on junction laminated metal plates intaglio by CNC.
FIG. 4 present junction laminated metal plates is rolled in order to expand patterns and reduce its thickness.
FIG. 5 is hollow tube made from drawing thin laminated metal plates of FIG. 4.
FIG. 6 is hollow tube earring that present patterns from colour of each layer of metal plates. Cross section A- A present numerous number of metal layers of hollow tube earring. FIG. B present patterns from each layer of laminated metal plates.
Detailed description of invention
Prepare sterling silver plates and copper plates width 10 mm. length 60 mm. thickness 0.15 mm. the surface of these metal plates must be smooth. Gridding all metals surface by rough sand paper to make rough surface on both sides of every metal plates in order to promote adhesion in sintering silver and copper plates. Degrease every metal plate with alcohol. Then pile up metal plates by placing a copper plate on the first layers 1. Then place a silver plate on the second layers 2. Place another copper plate on the third layer 3. Place another silver plate on the fourth layer 4. Then continue alternatingly piling copper plates and silver plates up to fifteen layers 16. The top level 15 is copper. Total thickness 16 is 2.25 mm. FIG.l
FIG.2 place the piled metal plates 16 in a clamping tool 17 and 18 then tightly fasten four female nuts 19. Spray the inner surface of the clamping tool with graphite spray before placing the metal plates in the clamping tool so as to prevent metal plates from sticking to it. Put the clamping tool with the piled metal plates in a furnace for diffuse sintering the metal plates at temperature 750-770 degree Celsius for 8 hours. When sintering is complete, take the clamping tool with the piled metal plates out of the furnace and cool it down in room temperature. Loosen four female nuts 19 then take the laminated metal stick 16 out of the clamping tool and clean it. Roll the laminated metal stick 16 in order to reduce its thickness to 1.50 mm.
FIG. 3 Use the CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machine with angle of 45-60 degree cone shape carving burs to intaglio the designed patterns 22. The depth of the intaglio patterns is 0.75 mm. Then the carved laminated stick 20 is ready for the next process.
Roll the carved laminated metal stick 20 of FIG.3 into 0.27 mm. thickness 21. Annealing will be applied during rolling process. The intaglio patterns from the CNC machine will be expanded so it shows wood-like patterns. The deeper carving is done, the more wood-like patterns shows. The different colour lines 22 from different metal look like annual rings of woods. As a result of the mentioned process, laminated metal sheet with colors and patterns 23 is ready for the next process. FIG.4
Prepare laminated metal sheet 23 at width 7.3 mm. then make hollow tube 26 and 24 by tube drawing technique with drawplate. The outside diameter of hollow tube 26 is 2.3 mm. 25 present by FIG. 5
Said hollow tube 26 will bend to form round circle earring 27 present by FIG. 6. Surface 15 of said earring 27 will present wood-like patterns, colours contrast from different kind of metal plates from each layer appear on surface 15. The surface 15 of hollow tube earring 27 will be red colour from copper. First line pattern is from silver 14, inner line pattern is from copper 13, next inner line pattern is silver 12, next inner line pattern is silver 1 1, next inner line pattern is copper 10, core of tube earring is from metal plates layer 1-9 present by FIG 6 section A- A. Amount of lines' pattern is depending on deep of intaglio carving, from fifteen metal sheets and carving deep 0.75 mm., will present 5-6 lines' pattern, outside diameter of this hollow tube earring is 2.3 mm.25, assembling from metal thickness 0.15 mm., comprises with silver plates and copper plates amount fifteen plates 16, bend to form circular tube earring with diameter from 20-48 mm., end of tube earring have to assembling with silver cap 28 to prevent copper contact with skin, another end will assembling with silver ear post 29 and 30.
