Description

TECHNICAL FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The present invention refers to a protein dietary supplement and, in particular, to a protein dietary supplement, comprising plant-based components.
STATE OF THE PRIOR ART
In the field of dietary supplements, protein dietary supplements have been known for some time. Such protein dietary supplements comprise a high quantity of proteins of various types and are usually used both for increasing muscular mass and for assisting in obtaining a quick and substantial weight loss.
Such protein dietary supplements can however be hard to digest and, due to the excess of proteins that they contain, they can cause a fatigue of renal functionality, since the kidneys are unable to correctly dispose of the provided protein supply.
In addition, during the periods of diet in which limited calorie quantities are consumed, due to the need to lose weight, and hence also during the periods of consumption of the aforesaid protein dietary supplements, it is possible that the user will experience the onset of anxiety and/or depressive states, with simultaneous sensations of anxiety, depression, insomnia or sleep disorder, restlessness, etcetera.
The same can occur in subjects with eating disorders, in which the correct calorie and/or nutritional supply is not sufficient, which are usually combined with a prevalent protein consumption with respect to that necessary or with respect to the other nutritional elements useful for the correct functionality of the organism and for the maintenance of a weight suitable for the physical and normal characteristics of the user.
In particular, serotonin is a substance that acts as neurotransmitter and has an action related to the mood and to the sleep. In particular, depression can be correlated to low levels of serotonin. Tryptophan is instead a slightly polar amino acid which is not synthesized by the human organism and hence must be obtained from foods: it is therefore classified among the essential amino acids. In addition to participating in the formation of the proteins of the organism, tryptophan intervenes in numerous chemical reactions, in particular in the synthesis of serotonin and nicotinic acid.
In particular, tryptophan is a precursor of serotonin, of melatonin and niacin: the metabolite, intermediary between tryptophan and serotonin, is 5-hydroxytryptophan (5-HTP).
There is therefore the need to provide a protein dietary supplement capable of overcoming the above mentioned drawbacks.
OBJECTS OF THE INVENTION
One object of the present invention is to improve the state of the prior art.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a protein dietary supplement comprising components of plant origin.
A further object of the present invention is to provide a protein dietary supplement which can be easily digested and assimilated by the organism.
A further object of the present invention is to provide a protein dietary supplement capable of limiting renal fatigue, hence aiding diuresis and the disposal of the provided proteins.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a protein dietary supplement with cleansing properties which facilitate wellbeing.
A still further object of the present invention is to provide a protein dietary supplement capable of limiting the anxiety and/or depressive states in the user, hence helping in maintaining a good mood level.
In accordance with one aspect of the present invention, a protein dietary supplement is provided according to claim 1.
The dependent claims refer to advantageous characteristics of the invention.
EMBODIMENTS OF THE INVENTION
The present invention refers to a dietary supplement or protein dietary supplement, comprising a protein or amino acid mixture containing at least one plant protein and/or at least one animal protein and/or at least one amino acid, preferably an essential amino acid.
Such dietary supplement is adapted, e.g. in one version of the invention, to be consumed during the slimming diet periods or during periods of limited calorie consumption or during periods of mainly protein nutritional consumption. Therefore, such supplement is used for a slimming treatment adapted to facilitate weight loss in a subject, in a slimming diet period, or in a period of limited calorie quantity consumption or in a period of mainly protein nutritional consumption.
Such dietary supplement is used in a treatment in order to limit the renal fatigue and/or to facilitate the diuresis and/or the disposal of the provided proteins, whether they are provided by the dietary supplement itself, for example, or provided by the diet during a slimming treatment for weight loss or during a slimming diet period or during a period of limited calorie quantity consumption or during a period of mainly protein nutritional consumption.
In addition, in one version of the invention, the dietary supplement is used for limiting or controlling the anxiety and/or depressive states and/or for maintaining a good mood level in the user during a slimming treatment period for weight loss or during a slimming diet period or during a period of limited calorie quantity consumption or during a period of mainly protein nutritional consumption.
In addition, such dietary supplement comprises at least one first plant extract and at least one second plant extract.
The first plant extract has antidepressant action; the second plant extract has renal adjuvant action.
The protein or amino acid mixture or the dietary supplement of the present invention can comprise at least one additional ingredient selected from among simple and/or complex carbohydrates, lipids, fibers, or minerals.
In addition, such protein or\amino acid mixture comprises at least one from among the essential amino acids, which are not synthesized by the organism, and in particular comprises tryptophan. Preferably, such protein mixture comprises isolated or free essential amino acids, i.e. not bonded in a protein chain. ~
The at least one first plant extract and the at least one second plant extract is obtained from at least one portion of the respective vegetable or plant.
In particular, the vegetable or plant portion from which the at least one first and/or the at least one second plant extract are obtained can be selected from among the leaves, bark, roots, rootstocks, stem, seeds and/or flowers, in accordance with the characteristics of the plant extract that one wishes to obtain or with the particular characteristics of the vegetable or plant, also in accordance with the plant portions in which the active ingredients, which are desired to be present in the at least one first and/or in the at least one second plant extract, are contained.
Such at least one first and/or such at least one second plant extract can be present in the form of a powder, micronized powder, lyophilized powder, wet powder, aqueous and non-aqueous solutions, suspensions in non-polar solvents such as resins and oils, etcetera.
The at least one first plant extract or plant extract with antidepressant action according to the present invention comprises or is obtained from one or more of the below indicated plants, which contain active principles with antidepressant action, and/or tryptophan, and/or which stimulate the production, by the organism, of serotonin or niacin, and/or with anti-anxiety action, etcetera. In particular, the plants or vegetables having the following properties can be one or more of the following: plants of the legume family, Griffonia simplicifolia, Hypericum perforatum, Crataegus monogyna or common hawthorn, etcetera.
In particular, Griffonia simplicifolia is an African tropical plant of the legume family which acts as source of tryptophan and 5-HTP since it has a high content of the same. In particular, the seeds are composed for approximately 10% by 5-hydroxytryptophan (5-HTP), a molecule which determines the activity of the plant. When the legume is mature, the percentage of 5-HTP reaches the maximum content. . , '
As stated, 5-HTP is a metabolite intermediate between tryptophan and serotonin.
Therefore, the at least one plant extract of Griffonia simplicifolia of the present invention is capable of improving the mood level, the sexuality, the sleep quality, it facilitates the control of the pain threshold and assists in regularizing the sleep-awake cycle, body thermoregulation, the appetite, thus eliminating anxiety and depression.
Griffonia is an optimal aid for facilitating the mental wellbeing in subjects affected by anxiety states, insomnia or who require improving the mood level, such as in users subjected to slimming diets, in people with eating disorders, etcetera.
In particular the at least one first plant extract with antidepressant action or the plant extract of Griffonia is obtained from the seeds of such plant.
The at least one plant extract based on Griffonia assists in transforming the essential amino acids contained in the protein or amino acid mixture and to synthesize abovementioned neurotransmitters in order to limit the depressive states, generally typical of subjects who undergo slimming diets. The at least one second plant extract or plant extract with renal adjuvant action of the present invention is also an extract capable of combating or assisting in the prevention or treatment of hyperazotemia and/or nephritis, renal insufficiency and/or, generally, it aids correct renal functionality, with consequent disposal of protein and of waste in general. Such aspect is very important, since a person who suffers the aforesaid pathologies or the aforesaid disorders is not capable of consuming proteins during normal feeding, with relative problems that can arise due to and as a consequence of this.
Such at least one second plant extract or extract with renal adjuvant action comprises or is obtained from one or more of the following plants: plants belonging to the genus Lespedeza, Lespedeza capitata Minch, artichoke (Cynara scolimus), boldo (Peumus boldus Mol.), black horseradish (Raphanus sativus), burdock (Arctium lappa L.), milk thistle (Silybum marianum), turmeric (Curcuma longa L.), birch, Taraxacum officinale, etcetera.
In one version, such second plant extract comprises components or active principles capable of aiding the correct renal functionality and/or the diuresis and/or the disposal of protein or of waste of the organism.
In a preferred version of the invention, the at least one second plant extract or plant extract with renal adjuvant action is obtained from one or more of the plants belonging to the genus Lespedeza, which confer an improved activity for the dietary supplement according to the present invention.
The plants belonging to the genus Lespedeza are grouped in about 40 species of flowering plants of the Fabaceae family.
Lespedeza, in particular Lespedeza capitata Mich, is a plant belonging to the legume family. Among the main constituents, the following are present: catechin tannins, catechols and flavonoids. The latter determine a cleansing action by Lespedeza or by the at least one second plant extract or plant extract with renal adjuvant action, since they have a particular chemical structure: the sugar of the glucoside is bonded to the flavone as glucosyl derivative. This bond ensures that the glucosides have much greater resistance to hydrolysis and can carry out a diuretic action for a long time period.
The at least one plant extract according to the present invention, in particular that deriving from Lespedeza, has a ACE-inhibitory action (typical activity of anti-hypertensive drugs). The indications of this plant are therefore stimulation of diuresis and treatment of slight or medium hyperazotaemias .
The Lespedeza extracts can also be used for the capillary-protectant properties, in addition to the diuretic properties.
In particular the at least one second plant extract or plant extract with renal adjuvant action or the plant extract of Lespedeza is obtained from the leaves of such plant.
