Un grand nombre de pièces de la scie alternative sont universelles, et un grand nombre des surfaces de montage sont usinées en place par un centre d'usinage directement sur un moulage en aluminium (ou en alliage de magnésium), réduisant le nombre et le type de parties assemblées.
