Abstract
The invention discloses Ni containing anionic clay catalyst and its preparation thereof useful for selective hydrogenation of furfural to furfuryl alcohol. Particularly the invention discloses a novel catalyst system comprising Ni over anionic clays for the selective hydrogenation of furfural (FAL) to furfuryl alcohol (FOL). Further, the patent discloses a catalytic process for hydrogenation of FAL to FOL, THFA, 2-methyl furan and other products catalysed by Ni supported on anionic clays with conversion > 89%and selectivity towards FOL > 92%.
