可視情報提示装置
 本発明は、運転者の運転を支援する可視情報を提示する可視情報提示装置に関する。
 車両に搭載され、運転者に対し可視情報を提示することにより車両走行時において運転者の運転を支援し、走行の安全性や快適性を向上させる可視情報提示装置が知られている。
 この可視情報提示装置のなかには、車両に接近してくる先行車等の対象物を検出し、検出された対象物が車両と接触する可能性のある注意対象物であると判断すると、車両のダッシュボードに設置された光提示装置からウインドシールドに可視情報を投影することにより、運転者に対し注意対象物が車両に接近していることを認識させるものがある。これにより、運転者は減速や進路変更などの回避動作を行い、注意対象物が車両と接触することを回避することができる。
 しかしながら、一般に車両の走行中においては、運転者の焦点は先行車や道路等の前方風景にあり、この状態で可視情報が提示されると、図5に示すように、可視情報の提示位置が運転者の視点よりも手前となる。そのため、図6(a)に示すように、運転者が焦点を光提示装置の可視情報110に合わたときに運転手に視認される可視情報110が1つであっても、運転者が焦点を可視情報110よりも前方に位置する先行車や道路等に合わせたときには、運転者の両眼視差に起因して、運転者には、図6(b)に示すように右眼で視える像112と左眼で視える像114の2つの可視情報が水平方向に並んで視えることになる。
 そこで、特許文献1に開示された先行技術では、光提示装置101によって提示される可視情報120の水平方向の長さを図7(a)のように調節することにより、運転者の焦点が前方にある場合においても、運転者の視界では、図7(b)に示すように、右眼で視える像122と左眼で視える像124とが水平方向に重なり、1つの像125として形成されるようになっていた。これにより、運転者に可視情報が二重に視えることを防止するようになっていた。

 つまり、図7(b)に示すように、特許文献1に記載の可視情報提示装置は、右眼で視える像122と左眼で視える像124とが互いに重なって視えるよう可視情報120を提示しているため、1つの像125のうちの重なり部分126における像の輝度がこれ以外の部分の輝度よりも重なりの分だけ明るくなっていた。さらに、重なり部分126の境界の左右において、輝度が不連続となっていた。そのため、運転者は、可視情報に違和感を覚えることがあった。
 本発明は、上述した事情に鑑みてなされたものであり、その目的は、運転者の両眼視差に起因した違和感を与えることなく可視情報を提示することができる可視情報提示装置を提供することにある。
 前述した目的を達成するために、本発明に係る可視情報提示装置は、下記(1)~(5)を特徴としている。

 上記(4)の構成の可視情報提示装置によれば、可視情報の車幅方向の長さが、運転者の眼球から対象物までの距離、運転者の眼球から所定の位置までの距離、および運転者の眼球間の距離の3つのパラメータにより設定される。したがって、可視情報提示装置は、これらの3つのパラメータを予め実験的計測により一定値として保持している場合には、可視情報の車幅方向の長さも一定値として保持することができる。また、可視情報提示装置は、これらの3つのパラメータを計測装置により取得する構成を有すれば、可視情報の形状を運転者の体格やシート位置に応じて最適化することができる。
 上記(5)の構成の可視情報提示装置によれば、可視情報の端部の輝度が零となっているので、運転者に両眼視差により視界に入る2つの像の重なり部分の境界の左右で輝度が不連続となることを抑制できる。
 本発明の可視情報提示装置によれば、運転者の両眼視差に起因した違和感を与えることなく可視情報を提示することができる。
 以上、本発明について簡潔に説明した。更に、以下に説明される発明を実施するための形態(以下、「実施形態」という。)を添付の図面を参照して通読することにより、本発明の詳細は更に明確化されるであろう。
図1は、可視情報提示装置による可視情報の提示例を示す図である。 図2(a)は、提示可視情報であり、図2(b)は、運転者の視界に形成される両眼像を示す図である。 図3は、提示される可視情報と運転者の視界に形成される両眼像との関係を示す図である。 図4(a)乃至図4(d)は、提示される可視情報の輝度分布の例を示す図である。 図5は、従来の可視情報提示装置による可視情報の提示を示す図である。 図6(a)は、従来の可視情報提示装置により提示される可視情報であり、図6(b)は、運転者の視界に形成される両眼像を示す図である。 図7(a)は、特許文献1に記載の可視情報提示装置により提示される可視情報であり、図7(b)は、運転者の視界に形成される両眼像を示す図である。
 本発明に関する具体的な実施形態について、各図を参照しながら以下に説明する。
 本実施形態における可視情報提示装置10の構成例を図1に示す。
 可視情報提示装置10は、車両のダッシュボード15内に収容される提示装置本体11を備えており、提示装置本体11は、光源からの出射光をウインドシールド17に反射させ運転者に可視情報として提示する光提示部12を有している。光源は、LED、バルブ電球、EL(Electro-Luminescence)などの公知の光源により構成されている。本実施形態においては、光提示部12には光源、ウインドシールド17およびこれらの間に配置される公知の光学部品が含まれるものとするが、後述するように、運転者が光提示部12により提示される可視情報をウインドシールド17を介さず直接視認する構成の場合には、光提示部12はウインドシールド17を含んでいなくてもよい。
 また、車両は可視情報提示装置10および図示しない各種センサと接続された制御装置を備えている。制御装置は、CPU、ROM、RAM、入出力インターフェースを有しており、マイクロコンピュータにより構成される。CPUは、各種センサから入力された情報およびROMに予め記憶されているプログラムやデータに基づき、可視情報を提示する条件が成立したと判断すると、可視情報提示装置10を制御してウインドシールド17に可視情報13を反射させるようになっている。例えば、車両が車間距離センサを有している場合には、制御装置のCPUは、車間距離センサから入力された信号に基づき、自車両と先行車との車間距離がROMに記憶されている所定値よりも短いと判断すると、可視情報提示装置10を制御して可視情報13を提示することにより、運転者に減速や衝突回避動作を促すようになっている。
 光提示部12は、図2(a)に示すように、車幅方向(図2の水平方向)の長さX2を有する可視情報を、ウインドシールド17に反射させることにより提示位置に提示する。ここで、提示位置とは、運転者が焦点を合わせることにより視認される可視情報の位置を意味する。以下、提示位置に結像された可視情報を提示可視情報21という。この提示可視情報21は、車幅方向において、中央付近の輝度が最も高くなっており、端部に近づくにつれて輝度が低くなっている。なお、本実施形態においては、提示可視情報21は、すべての方向の端部に近づくにつれて輝度が低くなっているが、少なくとも車幅方向の端部に近づくにつれて輝度が低くなるようにする。
 運転者が自車両の前方を走行している先行車に焦点を合わせている状態で、この提示可視情報21がウインドシールド17に投影されると、運転者の両眼視差に起因して、左眼および右眼により可視情報がそれぞれ第1の像23、第2の像25として視界に入る。
 したがって、運転者には、図2(b)に示すように、第1の像23と第2の像25とが車幅方向に一部重ね合わされた両眼像27として視界に入っていることになる。
 本願発明の実施形態に係る光提示部12は、上記のように、車幅方向において両端に近づくにつれて輝度が低下した提示可視情報21を提示している。したがって、第1の像23および第2の像25も、同様に、車幅方向において両端に近づくにつれて輝度が低下しているように形成される。これにより、運転者の両眼により視えている両眼像27は、第1の像23および第2の像25が重ね合わされた箇所において輝度が他の箇所と比較して従来のように局所的に高くなることを抑制し、運転者に違和感を与えることを防止できる。
 光提示部12により提示される提示可視情報21の車幅方向の長さX2は、以下のように算出される。
 図3に示すように、運転者が、眼球の位置から距離L1離れた先行車29を視ている状態で、眼球から距離L2の位置に提示可視情報21が提示される。このとき、運転者の焦点は距離L1の位置にあるので、両眼視差により、運転者は、距離L1の位置に第1の像23および第2の像25を視界に入れる。運転者の眼球間の距離をX1、提示可視情報21の車幅方向の長さをX2とすると、
 X1:X2=L1:(L1-L2)   (1)
 X2=X1・(L1-L2)/L1   (2)
 の関係が成り立つ。したがって、
 X2>X1・(L1-L2)/L1   (3)
 の条件を満たした場合に、運転者には第1の像23と第2の像25とが車幅方向に少なくとも一部が重なって視える。
 したがって、可視情報提示装置10は、眼球間の距離X1、眼球から先行車29までの距離L1、眼球と提示位置との距離L2を設定することにより、提示可視情報21が有するべき車幅方向の長さX2を算出できる。
 なお、L1、L2、X1の値は、予め定められた値であっても測定結果に応じた値であってもよい。予め定められた値を用いる場合には、例えば、L1としては平均的な車間距離を用いることができる。あるいは、L1を無限大に設定することにより、運転者の焦点位置が何れの距離にあったとしても確実に第1の像23と第2の像25とが重なって視えるようにしてもよい。L2としては、平均的な運転者の体格およびシート位置と、提示位置との距離を予め実験的に求めておく。また、X1としては、一般的な成人の眼球間距離を用いるようにする。これらの値は、予め制御装置のROMに記憶されている。
 一方、L1、L2、X1の値として測定結果に応じた値を用いる場合には、車両は、赤外線カメラや光学カメラなど運転者の眼球の位置を計測できる計測装置を備えるようにする。また、車両は、自車両と先行車29との車間距離をミリ波あるいはレーザにより計測する車間距離計測装置を備えるようにする。そして、制御装置は、これらの計測装置から入力される信号に基づき、L1、L2、X1の値を設定し、上記式(3)よりX2の値を設定するようにする。
 また、制御装置は、L1、L2、X1の値のうち、いずれか1つあるいは2つの値のみを測定結果に基づき設定し、残りの値は予めROMに記憶しておくようにしてもよい。また、制御装置は、上記式(3)を満たす範囲内で、車速に応じてX2の値を設定するようにしてもよい。
 図4(a)~図4(d)は、光提示部12により提示される提示可視情報の輝度分布の例である。図4(a)~図4(d)において、横軸は提示可視情報の車幅方向の位置を、縦軸は提示可視情報の輝度分布をそれぞれ表している。また、図4(a)~図4(d)には、提示可視情報41、51、61、71が示されている。また、これらの提示可視情報41、51、61、71の中心を通り車幅方向に延伸する直線A上の輝度分布をグラフ43、53、63、73としてそれぞれ示している。
 図4(a)に示す提示可視情報41は、車幅方向の中央から両端に曲線状に低下する輝度分布43を有している。また、車幅方向の両端部では、輝度が0になっている。このような輝度分布43を有する提示可視情報21が提示された場合、両端部の輝度が0であることから、左眼の視界に入る第1の像23と右眼の視界に入る第2の像25とが重ね合わされた箇所において、輝度分布がステップ状に高くなるなど、重ね合わせの境界の左右で輝度が不連続になることを抑制できる。また、輝度分布43が連続した曲線状に変化しているので、両眼像27の車幅方向全体にわたり輝度が連続的に変化する。したがって、運転者が違和感を覚えることを防止できる。
 図4(b)に示す提示可視情報51は、車幅方向の中央から両端に曲線状に低下する輝度分布53を有している。一方、車幅方向の両端部では、所定の輝度を有している。このような輝度分布53を有する提示可視情報51が提示された場合、両端部の輝度は、図4(a)と異なり0ではないものの、車幅方向の中央における輝度よりも十分小さい値であるため、左眼の視界に入る第1の像23と右眼の視界に入る第2の像25とが重ね合わされた箇所において、運転者が違和感を覚える輝度の変化が生じることを抑制できる。また、輝度分布53が連続した曲線状に変化しているので、両眼像27の車幅方向全体にわたり輝度が連続的に変化する。したがって、運転者が違和感を覚えることを防止できる。
 図4(c)に示す提示可視情報61は、車幅方向の中央から両端に直線状に低下する輝度分布63を有している。また、車幅方向の両端部では、輝度が0になっている。このような輝度分布63を有する提示可視情報61が提示された場合、両端部の輝度が0であることから、左眼の視界に入る第1の像23と右眼の視界に入る第2の像25とが重ね合わされた箇所において、輝度分布がステップ状に高くなるなど、重ね合わせの境界の左右で輝度が不連続になることを抑制できる。また、輝度分布63が連続的に変化しているので、両眼像27の車幅方向全体にわたり輝度が連続的に変化する。したがって、運転者が違和感を覚えることを防止できる。
 図4(d)に示す提示可視情報71は、車幅方向の中央から両端に直線状に低下する輝度分布73を有している。一方、車幅方向の両端部では、所定の輝度を有している。このような輝度分布73を有する提示可視情報71が提示された場合、両端部の輝度は、図4(a)と異なり0ではないものの、車幅方向の中央における輝度よりも十分小さい値であるため、左眼の視界に入る第1の像23と右眼の視界に入る第2の像25とが重ね合わされた箇所において、運転者が違和感を覚える輝度の変化が生じることを抑制できる。また、輝度分布73が連続的に変化しているので、両眼像27の車幅方向全体にわたり輝度が連続的に変化する。したがって、運転者が違和感を覚えることを防止できる。
 これらの輝度分布は、光提示部12に多数のLEDを設置し、各LEDの輝度を調節することにより実現できるが、これに限定されず、1または複数の光源とウインドシールド17との間に、レンズ拡散板、導光部材、あるいはグラデーションマスク等の光学部品を設置することにより、提示位置に提示される提示可視情報71が上記何れかの輝度分布を有するようにしてもよい。また、レンズ拡散板とグラデーションマスクを重ねて用いてもよい。
 また、以上の説明においては、提示可視情報21がウインドシールド17に投影される場合、すなわち、光提示部12により提示された提示可視情報21が運転者により間接的に視認される場合について説明したが、これに限定されず、光提示部12が、ウインドシールド17あるいはその近傍に設置され、運転者が、光提示部12により提示される提示可視情報21を直接視認できるようにしてもよい。この場合、光提示部12がディスプレイにより構成されていると好適である。
 ここで、上述した本発明に係る可視情報提示装置の実施形態の特徴をそれぞれ以下[1]~[5]に簡潔に纏めて列記する。
 [1] 車両に設置され、所定の位置に焦点を合わせたときに運転者によって視認される可視情報(提示可視情報21)を提示する提示部(光提示部12)を備えた可視情報提示装置(10)であって、
 前記所定の位置に焦点を合わせたときに視認される前記可視情報(提示可視情報21)は、前記所定の位置よりも前記車両の進行方向前方に位置する対象物に焦点を合わせたときに、前記運転者の左右それぞれの眼の視界に入る第1の像(23)および第2の像(25)が、互いに重なる形状(両眼像27)とされ、且つ、中央部から端部に近づくにしたがって低下する輝度分布を有する可視情報提示装置(10)。
 [2] 前記提示部(光提示部12)は、前記可視情報(提示可視情報21)を前記車両のウインドシールド(17)に反射させて前記運転者に提示する上記[1]に記載の可視情報提示装置(10)。
 [3] 前記可視情報(提示可視情報21)の輝度分布は、中央部から両端部に連続的に低下している上記[1]又は[2]に記載の可視情報提示装置(10)。
 [4] 前記所定の位置に焦点を合わせたときに視認される前記可視情報(提示可視情報21)の車幅方向の長さX2は、前記運転者の眼球から前記対象物までの距離をL1、前記運転者の眼球から前記所定の位置までの距離をL2、前記運転者の眼球間の距離をX1とすると、
 X2>X1・(L1-L2)/L1
 により定められる上記[1]乃至[3]の何れかに記載の可視情報提示装置(10)。
 [5] 前記可視情報(提示可視情報21)の前記輝度分布は、車幅方向の両端部で零となる上記[1]乃至[4]の何れかに記載の可視情報提示装置(10)。
 本発明を詳細にまた特定の実施態様を参照して説明したが、本発明の精神と範囲を逸脱することなく様々な変更や修正を加えることができることは当業者にとって明らかである。
 本出願は、2014年4月9日出願の日本特許出願(特願2014-080102)に基づくものであり、その内容はここに参照として取り込まれる。
 本発明によれば、運転者の両眼視差に起因した違和感を与えることなく可視情報を提示することができるという効果を奏する。この効果を奏する本発明は、運転者の運転を支援する可視情報を提示する可視情報提示装置に関して有用である。

Claims (4)

  1.  車両に設置され、所定の位置に焦点を合わせたときに運転者によって視認される可視情報を提示する提示部を備えた可視情報提示装置であって、
     前記所定の位置に焦点を合わせたときに視認される前記可視情報は、前記所定の位置よりも前記車両の進行方向前方に位置する対象物に焦点を合わせたときに、前記運転者の左右それぞれの眼の視界に入る第1の像および第2の像が、互いに重なる形状とされ、且つ、中央部から端部に近づくにしたがって低下する輝度分布を有する
     可視情報提示装置。
  2.  前記提示部は、前記可視情報を前記車両のウインドシールドに反射させて前記運転者に提示する
     請求項1に記載の可視情報提示装置。
  3.  前記可視情報の輝度分布は、中央部から端部に連続的に低下している
     請求項1又は請求項2に記載の可視情報提示装置。
  4.  前記所定の位置に焦点を合わせたときに視認される前記可視情報の車幅方向の長さX2は、前記運転者の眼球から前記対象物までの距離をL1、前記運転者の眼球から前記所定の位置までの距離をL2、前記運転者の眼球間の距離をX1とすると、
     X2>X1・(L1-L2)/L1
     により定められる
     請求項1乃至請求項3の何れか一項に記載の可視情報提示装置。
