Les transmissions planétaires comprennent un pignon d'entraînement, une couronne, un ou plusieurs satellites, un ou plusieurs porte-satellite, caractérisées en ce que les rapports de transmission, les angles de rotation des maillons et, de manière correspondante, les autres paramètres sont déterminés en fonction de dépendances via la formule de Vedeneev et de ses approximations Ι12=Ζ2/((Ζ1-(Ζ2/Ζ1)), Ι1Η=Ζ3/(Ζ1-(Ζ2/Ζ1)), Ι13=2*Ι12=2*(Ζ2/(Ζ1-(Ζ2/Ζ1))). Ι16=Ζ5/((Ζ1-(Ζ2/Ζ1))-((Ζ6/Ζ3)+(Ζ3/Ζ2))), et peuvent ne pas comporter de maillons freinés; dans cette formule, I12 est le rapport de transmission entre le pignon central et le satellite, I1H est le rapport de transmission entre le pignon central et le porte-satellites, I13 est le rapport de transmission entre le pignon central et la couronne (épicycle, pignon central) I16 est le rapport de transmission entre le pignon central et le maillon central du satellite dans des variateurs automatiques.
