Description
TURNSTILE WITH SINGLE BARRIER BAR
Technical Field
The invention relates to a turnstile provided with a drive unit coupled with a pivoting head carrying barrier means, the head pivote axis being inclined with respect to a direction perpendicular to a passageway direction.
Background of the Invention
Generaly known turnstiles, i.e. equipment to control an access into a guarded area through a given passageway, which are equipped with a pivoting head inclined with a respect to the controled passageway direction are provided with barrier means mostly comprising three or two barrier bars. In both cases the bars, when not in blocking position, partially protrude into the passageway room which is therefore not free within its entire width. By turnstiles having three barrier bars it may happen that a person authorized to pass through incidentally pushes against the front, down directing bar thus dosing the way before passing through himself. Nevertheless a repeated attempt to pass legally is evaluated by the equipment as an attempt of a non-authorised person due to the fact that the interval between the two attempts to pass is very short. In such a case an intervention of a staff is necessary, provided there is any staff present at the moment at all.. Similar situation may happen even by equipment furnished with only two bars. Application of just a single bar provides for a time period of opened passage long enough to enable more than one person to pass through and thus offers an opportunity for an unauthorized person to pass simultaneously with an authorized person. Faster movement of the bar may result in an injury of the passing person, especially in cases when for any reason the person has problems with walking. Moreover it is necessary to provide also for emergency situations, when an equipment of the kind has to enable persons being inside the guarded area to leave the area free and fast. By turnstiles with three or two rods the problem has been solved but the turnstile construction is complicated and therefore more expensive.
It is an object of the invention to improve existing turnstile constructions and to simplify the manufacture and reduce the costs.
Disclosure and of the Invention
The foregoing problems by turnstiles provided with a drive coupled with a pivoting head carrying barrier means, the head pivote axis being inclined with respect to a direction perpendicular to a passageway direction have been in accordance with the present invention solved by a system having a head furnished with a single barrier bar, the head being couppled with a drive unit providing for increasing rotation speed of the head during the barrier bar movement from the starting closing position to a position when the passageway is fully opened and decreasing rotation speed of the head during the barrier bar movement back to the closing position. As the need may be the bar movement can be stopped at the moment the passageway is fully opened. Further according the present invention the driiving unit is provided with a direct current motor fed from a controlled supply unit. According to a prefered embodiment the head pivot axis is inclined by an angle of 35° up to 55° with respect to a direction perpendicular to a closed passage.
According to the main aspect of the invention there is applied only one barrier rod, what simplifies the turnstile design. Due to the varying speed of rotation of the head, the barrier rod while making the passageway free for a passing person moves very fast behind the person without evern touching it and by a decelerated move closes the passage again. According another aspect of the invention by emergency state it is easy to set the barrier rod into the position leaving the passage fully opened.
Brief Description of the Drawings
The invention is further illustrated with refrence to an example of practical embidment presented in the accompanying drawings, where Fig. 1 shows the said turnstile in a front view, in the passageway direction, the passageway
being closed by the barrier rod and Fig. 2 shows the same turnstile with the barrier rod in a position keeping the passageway opened.
Description of Preferred Embodiments
Referring to Fig. 1 and Fig. 2, there is shown a turnstile comprising a column 1 , housing in its upper part a driving unit 2 to which there is couppled a pivoting head 3. The head 3 carries a barrier rod 4, which in the working position, as shown on Fig. 1 , is position across a passageway. The head pivot axis 5 is inclined with respect to a direction perpendicular to passageway by an angle the value of which is preferably within a range from 35° az 55°. The driiving unit 2 providing for the varying speed of rotation movement of the head 3 comprise a direct current motor which is fed from a controlled supply source. Preferably there is applied a direct current motor described in the document WO 2012/155898.
During rotation movement of the head 3, when the barrier bar 4 moves from its starting position, when the passageway is blocked to a position when it points downwards and the passageway is fully opened, the head rotation speed and thus the barrier rod 4 speed gradually increases up to a maximum value and consequently while the barrier rod 4 returns to the starting, blocking position its rotation speed decreases to a zero value reached at the moment when the barrier bar 4 is back in the starting position crossing and blocking the passageway again. The term maximum speed is to be construed as speed reached by the head 3 at the moment when the rod points downwards, i.e. at the moment the passageway is fully free for passing through.
A case of emergency requiring free and easy passage of persons out from the controlled area, when the barrier rod 4 has to be removed from its starting blocking position may be solved by several methods which are known as such. According the first method the head 3 is pivoted by a half turn and thus the barrier rod 4 points down to a ground. The head 3 inclination angle with respect to the direction perpendicular to the passageway can be selected so that while in the opened position the barrier rod 4 points outside the passageway as
shown on Fig. 2. This arrangement significantly facilitates free passing and helps persons to smoothly leave the area through the controlled point. The said half turn of the head 3 by the emergency situation can be achieved automatically by means of the drive unit or as a result of an action of the staff. The barrier rod 4 movement is stopped at the moment it reaches the position making the passageway fully free. Another method comprise mechanical releasing of the head 3 so that a passing person may by a mere touching the barrier rod 4 move it to the position when it points downwards and makes passing free.
Industrial applications
The present invention is designed for equipment to control entry into an area with admission free only for authorized persons.
