Description

DEVICE FOR CLEANING/DRYING ROPES
The present invention refers to a device for cleaning/drying ropes, in particular actuated by a winch of a plant for extracting kinetic energy from wind.
As known, a winch is used under different applications, to lift or move a load, pull a rope and transmit energy by means of a rope adapted to be wound.
Recently, the application of hoists and winches for transmitting energy has become important in the wind sector, wherein hoists and winches, connected to alternators and electronic power apparatuses, are used for extracting the kinetic energy of wind and for converting the produced mechanical energy into electric energy.
An important aspect in recovering the mechanical energy from the ropes connected to a moving load is given by the efficiency of the driving winch, for which small percentages of energy losses imply a high heating of the driving pulleys and of the rope.
A process for extracting energy from wind implies the use of high-resistance ropes tensioned by the lift of a flying kite with transverse wind. The drum on which the rope is wound rotates due to the unwinding force induced by the rope. The mechanical power is generated by the combination of the mechanical tension in the rope and the speed with which the rope is stretched, when being unwound from the drum.
The drum on which the rope is wound rotates due to the unwinding force induced by the rope. During this process, the kinetic energy of wind is first of all converted into mechanical energy due to the friction between the rope and the drum contact surface, and then into electric energy through alternators connected to the winch.
During the conversion, energy losses occur as heat which heats the drum contact surface and increases the internal temperature of the rope compromising the mechanical properties due to an overheating effect.
Conventional hoists and winches are not suitable for transmitting a great amount of energy due to their low efficiency. When there is a high- power winch equipped with high-resistance ropes, also a relatively small part of lost power could result critical. Together with losses generated by bearings of rotating elements, the heat flow is mainly generated by the friction forces between rope and drum.
Friction inside the rope is generated by relative movements and distortions of different threads and strands, composing the rope and geometrically arranged in order to mutually rub themselves. On the other hand, friction between rope and drum is the necessary ingredient for allowing the winch to extract energy from the rope, while friction depending on any relative movement between rope and drum must be reduced to a minimum.
The state of the art deals with devices used in the energy field for the maintenance of ropes and cables. Patent application WO2010059025 discloses a machine for cleaning/drying electric line cables comprising a device sliding along the rope of an electric line capable of removing moss, branches and elements which can short-circuit the electric line.
The state of the art also deals with devices used in general for cleaning/drying cables and ropes. Patent US5179830 discloses an apparatus for removing metallic particles deposited on a strand- type cable by means of a jet of compressed air addressed inside a cylinder. A source of vacuum connected to said air cylinder sucks air and metallic particles in a volumetric amount greater than the volumetric amount of pressurized air addressed to the cylinder, thereby preventing metallic particles from going out and being dispersed. Patent US4570285 discloses a device for cleaning/drying a rope comprising a multitude of tools equally angularly distributed as radially- oriented brushes and placed in contact with the rope to be cleaned.
Documents US-A-4 570 285, US-A-5 386 882, EP- Al-0 061 792, GB-A-2 441 230 and US-A-5 056 185 disclose devices or cleaning and/or drying ropes according to the preamble of claim 1.
Object of the present invention is solving the bove prior art problems, by providing a device for cleaning/drying sliding ropes capable of moving away particles of dust and grains of silica minerals deposited on the surface of the rope itself during its sliding.
Another object of the present invention is providing a device for cleaning/drying ropes capable of keeping the surface of the section of such rope wound on a drum of a winch dy and free from oily substances which could impair the optimum adherence conditions and interaction between rope and drum.
Moreover, an object of the present invention is providing a device for cleaning/drying ropes capable of operating during a sliding step in a direction corresponding with the recalling direction of the rope through rotation of a drum of the winch.
The above and other objects and advantages of the present invention, as will result from the following description, are obtained with a device as claimed in claim 1. Preferred embodiments and non-trivial variations of the present invention are the subject matter of the dependent claims.
It is intended that all enclosed claims are an integral part of the present description.
It will be immediately obvious that numerous variations and modifications (for example related to shape, sizes, arrangements and parts with equivalent functionalities) could be made to what is described, without departing from the scope of the invention as appears from the enclosed claims.
The present invention will be better described by some preferred embodiments thereof, provided as a non-limiting example, with reference to the enclosed drawings, in which:
- Figure 1 shows a diagram of a winch on whose rotary drum a rope is wound in contact with a device for cleaning/drying ropes according to the present invention;
- Figures 2 and 3 show a component of the device for cleaning/drying ropes of Figure 1 respectively configured in steps of active and passive operation.
With reference to Figure 1, it is possible to note that a rope 1, included between a first inlet section 11 and a second outlet section 12, is wound for a fraction of revolution onto a drum 21 centered on a rotary shaft (not shown) connected to a high-efficiency winch 2.
The sections 11 and 12 of the rope 1 are respectively connected to a working load (not shown) and to a storing device (not shown) or other resisting load, according to a tension gradient which establishes a maximum tension value for the first section 11 and a minimum or null tension value to the second section 12.
A device 3 according to the present invention for cleaning/drying the rope 1 is equipped with at least one cleaning/drying means of at least one portion of the first section 11 stretched during its sliding movement next to such cleaning/drying means. Preferably, the cleaning/drying means are adapted to perform a cleaning/drying action of the portion of the first section 11 of the rope 1 during its sliding movement along a first direction V corresponding to a recalling direction of the rope 1 itself through rotation of the drum 21 of the winch 2.
An articulate lever system 33, 34, connected to a carrier structure (not shown) supports the cleaning/drying means allowing to compensate possible transverse displacements of the rope 1 with respect to the drum 21.
In particular, in a preferred embodiment thereof, such cleaning/drying means of the device 3 according to the present invention comprise at least one first and at least one second casing, respectively 31, 32, both crossed at least by the first section 11 of the rope 1 and preferably arranged in series along the longitudinal axis (as shown, for example, in Figure 1) of the rope 1.
The first casing 31 can be equipped with one or more means for cleaning through touch 35, each one of which is composed, for example, of a brush, one or more rubber rings, or other functionally similar device, pressing against the surface of the first section 11 radially with respect to the longitudinal axis of the rope 1 by means of a system of levers and stoppers 36, 37 (as shown, for example, in Figures 2 and 3) . The system of levers and stoppers 36, 37 is adapted to press such one or more means for cleaning through touch 35 against the surface of the rope 1, and in particular of the first section 11, only when this latter one moves by sliding along the first direction V, namely in synchronism with a recalling step of the rope 1 along the first direction V by the winch 2.
In addition, the system of levers and stoppers 36, 37 can comprise at least one remote-controlled device (not shown) adapted to press the one or more means for cleaning through touch 35 against the surface of the rope 1, and in particular of the first section 11, only during its sliding movement along the first direction V, namely in synchronism with the recalling step of the rope 1 along the first direction V.
The second casing 32 is equipped with at least one internal recess (not shown) crossed by such rope 1, and in particular by the first section 11, and occupied by at least one regenerating substance supplied by means of at least one tube 46 (as shown, for example, in Figure 1) .
At least one mixer 43 connects the tube 46 to secondary tubes 44, 45, respectively connected to a compressed air tank 41 and a detergent tank 42.
The mixer 43 can cooperate with at least one solenoid valve (not shown) adapted to drive the supply of the air/detergent mixture in the recess during the sliding movement along the first direction V, namely in synchronism with the recalling step of the rope 1 along the first direction V.
The device 3 for cleaning/drying the rope 1 reaches the objectives of removing polluting particles and regenerating the surface of the rope 1 during the recalling step along direction V through rotation of the drum 21.
In particular, the first casing 31 removes the polluting particles through the one or more means for cleaning through touch 35 pressing on the surface of the rope 1 while this latter one slides along direction V.
