Definitions
- the present invention relates to the field of connectors for high voltage applications. It applies in particular, but not exclusively, to traction batteries for motor vehicles.
- a disadvantage of such a connector is that its pins may rotate unexpectedly during transport or during handling by an operator on an assembly line, so that it may become impossible to assemble the connector to the chain, causing at least a reduction in the efficiency of the assembly line, any retouching, or even defects.
- Another disadvantage of such a connector is that its pins are very close to each other: the fall of a tool or a clamping screw can bring the two pins into contact and cause a short circuit causing the destruction of the connector and putting the operator at risk.
- Yet another disadvantage of such a connector is the risk of unsafe connection, especially when they must be connected to lugs, as explained in detail later.
- the subject of the invention is a device for assembling a connector with a chain comprising at least two pivoting contact pins, each pin comprising a terminal whose end is flattened and pierced with a hole accommodating a suitable threaded insert. to receive a clamping screw, each threaded insert forming a shoulder on said flattened end.
- the device comprises a planar base of electrically insulating material supporting fixing means of each pin, these means being arranged such that the flattened end of the terminal of said pin bears on the flat base to prevent the rotation of said pin, the ends of the clamping screws and the shoulders formed by the threaded inserts being accommodated in holes drilled in the flat base.
- the device also comprises at least one partition of electrically insulating material arranged such that the pins can not be brought into contact via the clamping screw or by a clamping tool of said screw when the flattened ends of their terminals bear on the flat base.
- the partition comprises means for limiting the stacking height of the contactors to a predetermined height.
- the height of the partition may be greater than the cumulative thickness of the head of one of the clamping screws, of a contact element comprising an orifice through which said clamping screw is able to pass, and of the flattened end of one of the terminals in the threaded insert of which said clamping screw is screwable, out of the thickness of the shoulder formed by said threaded insert on said flattened end.
- the means for limiting the stacking height of the contactors may include an abutment projecting perpendicularly to the top of the partition, so that the predetermined height is substantially equal to the accumulation of the thickness of the flattened end of the terminal, excluding the thickness of the shoulder formed by the threaded insert on said flattened end, and the thickness of the contact element.
- the partition may extend at a substantially straight angle, the stop being able to project in the acute sector formed by said angle.
- the contact element may be a terminal comprising a connection insert.
- each terminal may further comprise a cylindrical portion
- the fixing means may include lyres in which can be clipped said cylindrical portions.
- the electrically insulating material may be a plastic material.
- the main advantage of the present invention is that it can be implemented by conventional and low cost of molding plastic materials.
- FIGS. 2a, 2b, 2c, 2d and 2e by different views in perspective and in profile, an example of a device according to the invention
- Figure 1a illustrates an example of connector 1 according to the prior art having two pins 1 1 and 12 free in rotation.
- This is a model marketed under the reference RCS800 by the company FCI.
- Each of the pins 1 1 and 12 comprises in particular a base 1 1 1 and 121 respectively of substantially cylindrical shape.
- Each of the pins 1 1 and 12 also comprises a terminal 1 12 and 122 respectively, each of the terminals 1 12 and 122 having a substantially cylindrical portion and a flattened end.
- Each of the terminals 1 12 and 122 further comprises an orifice 1 121 and 1221 respectively disposed substantially at the center of its flattened end, each of the two orifices hosting a threaded insert 1 122 and 1222 respectively, so as to allow the screwing of clamping screws not shown in Figure 1.
- the threaded inserts 122 and 1222 have been forcefully inserted into the orifices 121 and 1221 respectively by the faces of the flattened ends of the terminals 112 and 122 respectively, these faces being those of the bottom in FIG.
- the tapped inserts 122 and 1222 form a cylindrical shoulder on this face of the flattened ends of the terminals 1 12 and 122 respectively by which they were introduced.
- the screws must be screwed into the inserts 1 122 and 1222 by the opposite face of the flattened ends of the terminals 1 12 and 122 respectively, that is to say the top faces in Figure 1a where the threaded inserts form no shoulder.
- the pins 1 1 and 12 are arranged such that their respective axes A and Ai2 are substantially parallel. As illustrated in FIG.
- the pins 1 1 and 12 are able to pivot freely about their respective axes A and A 1 in the clockwise direction and in the counterclockwise direction, so that the flattened ends of the terminals 1 12 and 122 may substantially conform to interface planes with other connection elements not shown in Figure 1.
- the connector 1 can be used to connect the modules in series, each module comprising several electrochemical cells for storing electricity.
- the flattened ends of the terminals 1 12 and 122 may substantially conform to lug interface planes establishing the connection between the modules of a battery.
- Such lugs may be of the type of lug 3 illustrated in Figure 1b, having a flat end 31 forming the interface plane, in the center of which is disposed an orifice 32 and a metal insert 33 for connecting by crimping the lug 3 to a braided cable not shown in Figure 1b.
- each of the terminals 1 12 and 122 may be positioned in the "loose" contact of the flat ends 31 of two terminals of the type of the terminal 3 respectively.
- two clamping screws pass through the orifices 32 of the two terminals of the type of the terminal 3 to be screwed into the threaded inserts 1122 and 1222 respectively.
- the flattened ends of the terminals January 12 and 122 conform almost perfectly to the interface planes 31 of the two terminals of the type of the terminal 3 by clamping the screws, allowing the safe passage of a high voltage current and to high intensity by maximizing the contact contact surface between the terminals 1 12 and 122 and the pods.
- the pin 11 can have its terminal 12 stretching over a greater length than the terminal 122 of the pin 12, so that the terminal 1 12 and the terminal 122 can be connected to two terminals. pods identical to the terminal 3 disposed perpendicular to the axes A and Ai2 respectively, as shown in Figures 3a and 3b which follow.
- a first disadvantage of the connector 1 according to the prior art is that the pins 1 1 and 12 can rotate unexpectedly during transport or during manipulation by an assembly operator of the battery modules (or any other application home), so that it may become impossible to assemble the connector 1, resulting in at least a drop in the efficiency of the assembly line, any retouching, or even defects.
- Another disadvantage of the connector 1 according to the prior art is that the terminals 1 12 and 122 are very close to each other, spaced from about ten millimeters. Consequently, the fall of a tool or of a clamping screw that escapes from the hands of the operator can bring the two terminals 1 12 and 122 into contact with one another and cause a short circuit causing the destruction of the connector 1 and causing run risks to the operator.
- This again is a disadvantage that the present invention proposes to solve.
- FIGS. 2a, 2b, 2c, 2d, 2e, 3a and 3b illustrate an exemplary embodiment of a device 2 according to the present invention, the device 2 being more particularly adapted to the RCS800 model connector 1 marketed by FCI. It should be understood that this embodiment should not be interpreted in a limiting manner and that the invention can be implemented with any other model of connector with two substantially parallel pivot pins.
- the device 2 is entirely made of one or more electrically insulating materials, for example plastic type PA66 GF.
- the device 2 comprises a substantially flat base 21.
- the base 21 supports two lyres 22 and 23 arranged so as to be clipped around the cylindrical portions of the terminals 1 12 and 122 respectively, so that the flattened ends of the terminals 1 12 and 122 bear on the same face of the base 21 to prevent the rotation of the pins 1 1 and 12 respectively, this up to the establishment and assembly of the connector 1 with two terminals identical to the terminal 3 already illustrated in Figure 1b and which will be collectively referred to as "lugs 3" in the remainder of this application.
- the connector 1 is assembled to the lugs 3 by means of two substantially identical clamping screws 4 passing through the orifices 32 of the lugs 3, one of the screws 4 which are screwed into the tapped insert 1 122 in the flattened end of the terminal 1 12 the other screw 4 being screwed into the tapped insert 1222 in the flattened end of the terminal 122.
- Orifices 26 in the base 21 allow the passage not only of the threaded ends of the screws 4, but also of the cylindrical shoulders formed by the threaded inserts 122 and 1222. Therefore the diameter of the orifices 26 is slightly greater than the diameter of the cylindrical shoulders formed by the threaded inserts 1122 and 1222.
- the base 21 also supports, on its bearing face of the flattened ends of the terminals 1 12 and 122, at least one anti-short circuit partition 24 which extends from one edge to another of the base 21 so as to forming a partition between the terminals 1 12 and 122.
- the anti-short circuit partition 24 extends at a substantially straight angle and separates the base 21 into two parts whose surfaces are of the same order of size.
- the anti-short circuit partition 24 has a height greater than the cumulative thicknesses of a lug 3, the head of a clamping screw 4 and the flattened portion of a terminal 1 12 or 122.
- the anti-short circuit partition 24 has a height of the order of 10 millimeters for a thickness of the terminal 3 of the order of 2 millimeters, a thickness of the head of a clamping screw 4 of the order of 3 millimeters and the flattened portion of a terminal 1 12 or 122 of the order of 4 millimeters (excluding the height of the cylindrical shoulder formed by the threaded insert), an accumulation of 9 millimeters, which prevents well any contact between the two terminals 1 12 and 122 in the event of a fall of a tool or a screw 4 prior to its tightening.
- the base 21 supports a second anti-short circuit partition 25 extending along an edge of the base 21.
- the second anti-short circuit partition 25 is substantially identical to the first anti-short circuit partition 24 and disposed substantially parallel thereto.
- the second anti-circuit partition 25 limits the risk of contact with the terminal 1 12 in the event of a fall of a tool.
- the anti-short-circuit partitions 24 and 25 each comprise a limit stop of stacking height of the contactors, these stops being referenced 241 and 251 respectively, the operation of these stops being better illustrated by FIGS. and 2nd.
- the stack height limiting stops 241 and 251 are disposed at the top of the anti-short circuit partitions 24 and 25 respectively, where they protrude perpendicularly to the partitions in the acute sector formed by each of the right angles of said partitions 24 and 25.
- the plane 31 of the lugs 3 can not then be inserted between the terminal 1 12 or 122 and the stack height limiting stop 251 or 241 respectively, because the cylindrical shoulder constitutes an additional height which prevents the plane from sliding. 31 below the stack height limiting stop 251 or 241.
- the interface plane 31 of the terminal 3 can not be inserted under the stack height limiting stop and it becomes it is impossible to put the hole 32 of the terminal 3 opposite a threaded insert 1122 or 1222 for screwing.
- the operator notices this immediately and only has to turn the spindle 180 ° in order to present it correctly. There is therefore no risk of unsafe contact and therefore much less risk of fire.
- the device 2 according to the invention can be set up by the operator during the assembly of the battery modules and remain permanently in the battery pack.
- the invention described above still has the main advantage that, on a chain assembly, its additional cost is quickly offset by operational efficiency gains.
