Abstract
본 발명은 압력지연식 막증류를 이용한 발전 겸용 정수화 장치에 관한 것으로서, 더욱 구체적으로는, 막 증류 분리막을 사이에 두고 배치된 온수 공급 탱크 및 냉수 공급 탱크를 포함하는 막 증류 분리막 모듈; 가압 펌프에 의한 압력 인가 방식에 의해서 상기 냉수 공급 탱크로 냉수를 공급하는 냉수 공급 라인; 상기 온수 공급 탱크로 온수를 공급하는 온수 공급 라인; 및 상기 냉수 공급 탱크로부터 유출된 처리수에 의해서 터빈을 회전시킴으로써 전기 에너지를 생산하는 발전기를 포함하는 압력지연식 막증류를 이용한 발전 겸용 정수화 장치에 관한 것이다. 본 발명에 따르면, 양질의 물을 공급함과 동시에 환경친화적 방식에 의해서 전기 에너지를 생산할 수 있으므로, 물 부족 및 에너지 부족 문제를 동시에 효과적으로 해결할 수 있는 차세대 기술을 제공할 수 있다.
Description
본 발명은 압력지연식 막증류법 방식을 이용하여 폐수를 처리하거나, 해수를 담수화하는 동시에, 공정 중 발생되는 증기압차에 의해서 전기에너지를 생산할 수 있는 압력지연식 막증류를 이용한 발전 겸용 정수화 장치에 관한 것이다.
최근 인구증가 및 산업발달에서 비롯된 물 부족 문제는 인류가 직면한 중대한 문제 중의 하나로 인식되기 시작하고 있으며, 이를 해결하기 위한 다각적인 연구가 진행되고 있다. 따라서, 폐수 정수를 통해서, 또는 해수 담수화를 통해서 깨끗한 물을 얻고자 많은 연구들이 진행되고 있으며, 이러한 기술들은 크게 증발법(distillation)과 역삼투법 (reverse osmosis)으로 분류될 수 있다. 그 중에서도 역삼투법은 증발법에 비해서 에너지 소비량이 적기 때문에 더욱 효율적인 기술로 인식되고 있다. 역삼투법은, 물은 투과하지만 물속에 용해된 다른 성분들은 투과시키지 못하는 반투막을 사이에 두고, 저농도 용액으로부터 고농도 용액으로 물이 이동할 때 발생하는 압력을 이용하여 정수 또는 담수화를 달성하는 방법이다.
특히, 역삼투법 중에서도 물속의 염농도 차이를 이용하여 전기 에너지를 생산하고자 하는 염도차 발전은 전 세계적으로 급증하는 에너지 수요 및 화석연료의 고갈과 맞물려서 최근에 더욱 많은 주목을 받고 있다. 염도차 발전은 기존의 태양력, 풍력 등을 이용한 발전이 변화되는 날씨에 많은 영향을 받는다는 단점을 극복할 수 있으면서도, 무한한 해수자원 등을 이용하므로 자원고갈의 염려가 없다는 장점을 갖는다. 이러한 염도차 발전에는 역전기투석 (Reversed electric dialysis: RED)과 압력지연삼투 (Pressure Retarded Osmosis: PRO)가 있는데, PRO 공정은 염분 농도가 상이한 두 용액의 삼투압 차이를 이용한 발전방식이다.
도 1에는 PRO 공정에 대한 개략적인 공정도를 도시하였다. 도 1을 참조하면, 저농도 용액으로서 담수를, 고농도 용액으로서 해수를 사용할 경우, 해수 라인과 담수 라인은 반투막을 사이에 두고 서로 접하게 되며, 전처리 과정을 거친 담수가 반투막을 통해서 해수 라인 쪽으로 투과되며, 따라서 해수 라인 쪽에는 담수 라인으로부터 투과되어온 유량만큼 유량증가가 발생된다. 결과적으로, 이와 같이 증가된 유량은 해수 라인 말단에 장착된 터빈을 회전시킴으로써 전기에너지를 발생시키게 된다. 따라서, PRO 공정은 고농도와 저농도 용액 사이의 농도차에 의해서 발생된 삼투압이 수압의 형태로 전환되어 터빈을 회전시킴으로써 전기에너지를 발생시키는 공정이라고 할 수 있다.
한편, 막 증류 (Membrane Distillation: MD) 공정이란, 기체와 증기만을 선택적으로 투과시키는 분리막을 사이에 두고, 서로 다른 증기압을 갖는 용액의 증기압차를 구동력으로 하여 물을 생산하는 공정이다. 막 증류 공정의 효율을 극대화하기 위해서는, 두 용액의 공급온도, 공급유량속도, 분리막의 재질 등을 적절히 선택하여야 한다. 일반적으로 막 증류 공정을 이용하여 투과량을 극대화하기 위해서는 고증기압 라인의 용액이 높은 증기압을 가져야 하는데, 이와 같이 증기압을 높이려면 고증기압 라인의 온도를 높게 유지하고 유속을 증가시켜야 하며, 저증기압 라인의 온도를 낮게 유지하여야 한다. 즉, 양 라인의 증기압차가 극대화되어야 많은 투과 유량을 확보할 수 있게 된다.
종래기술로서, 대한민국 등록특허공보 제0956765호는 막 증류용 분리막 모듈 장치 및 그를 이용한 고효율의 막증류 분리공정을 개시하고 있으며, 이는 분리막 모듈의 공급측 내에 삽입물을 장착하여 유로 폭을 조절함으로써, 분리막과 삽입물 사이의 좁은 유로를 통해서 빠른 유속을 유도하여, 낮은 공급 유량 및 공급온도에서도 우수한 투과유량을 확보하기 위한 발명이다.
따라서, 본 발명에서는 종래 압력지연삼투 및 막증류법이 갖는 장점들을 최대한 선별활용하여, 양질의 물을 공급함과 동시에 환경친화적 방식에 의해서 전기 에너지를 생산할 수 있는 압력지연식 막증류를 이용한 발전 겸용 정수화 장치를 제공하고자 한다.
본 발명은 상기 과제를 달성하기 위해서,
막 증류 분리막을 사이에 두고 배치된 온수 공급 탱크 및 냉수 공급 탱크를 포함하는 막 증류 분리막 모듈;
가압 펌프에 의한 압력 인가 방식에 의해서 상기 냉수 공급 탱크로 냉수를 공급하는 냉수 공급 라인;
상기 온수 공급 탱크로 온수를 공급하는 온수 공급 라인; 및
상기 냉수 공급 탱크로부터 유출된 처리수에 의해서 터빈을 회전시킴으로써 전기 에너지를 생산하는 발전기를 포함하는 압력지연식 막증류를 이용한 발전 겸용 정수화 장치를 제공한다.
본 발명의 일 구현예에 따르면, 상기 처리수 중 일부는 압력 교환기로 공급됨으로써 상기 가압 펌프에 의해 공급되는 압력을 보충할 수 있다.
본 발명의 다른 구현예에 따르면, 상기 처리수 중 일부는 열 교환기로 공급됨으로써 상기 온수 공급 라인에 공급되는 열을 보충할 수 있다.
본 발명의 또 다른 구현예에 따르면, 상기 가압 펌프에 의해서 인가될 수 있는 최대 압력은 하기 수학식 1에 의해서 결정될 수 있다:

이하, 도면을 참조하여 본 발명을 더욱 상세하게 설명하기로 한다.
본 발명에 따른 장치는, 막 증류 분리막을 사이에 두고 배치된 온수 공급 탱크 및 냉수 공급 탱크를 포함하는 막 증류 분리막 모듈; 가압 펌프에 의한 압력 인가 방식에 의해서 상기 냉수 공급 탱크로 냉수를 공급하는 냉수 공급 라인; 상기 온수 공급 탱크로 온수를 공급하는 온수 공급 라인; 및 상기 냉수 공급 탱크로부터 유출된 처리수에 의해서 터빈을 회전시킴으로써 전기 에너지를 생산하는 발전기를 포함한다.
도 2에는 본 발명의 일 구현예에 따른 장치에 대한 개략적인 구성도가 도시되어 있으며, 도 2를 참조하면, 각각 냉수 공급 라인 (100) 및 온수 공급 라인 (200)을 통하여 냉수 및 온수가 동시에 막 증류 분리막 모듈 (300)로 공급된다.
한편, 온수 공급 라인 (200)과는 달리, 냉수 공급 라인 (100)에는 연결된 가압 펌프 (400)에 의해서 별도의 추가적인 압력이 인가됨으로써 냉수가 모듈 (300) 내의 냉수 공급 탱크 (310)를 통과하여 터빈 (500)으로 공급될 수 있도록 한다.
한편, 상기 냉수 공급과는 별도로 온수 공급 라인 (200)을 통하여 모듈 (300) 내의 온수 공급 탱크 (320)로 온수가 공급되는데, 상기 냉수 공급 탱크 (310) 및 상기 온수 공급 탱크 (320)는 모듈 (300) 내에서 막 증류 분리막 (600)을 사이에 두고 분리 배치된다. 이때, 모듈 (300) 내에서는 상기 냉수와 온수의 온도 차이로 인해서 증기압의 차이가 발생 되고, 이로 인해서 온수 공급 탱크 (320)로부터 발생된 증기가 분리막 (600)을 투과하여 냉수 공급 탱크 (310)로 이동한다. 따라서, 냉수 공급 탱크 (310)로부터 유출되는 처리수는 투과된 증기에 의해서 증가된 유량만큼 부가적인 유압을 지니게 되며, 이러한 부가적인 유압이 터빈 (500)을 회전시킴으로써 전기 에너지를 생성하는 근원이 되는 것이다. 따라서, 상술한 과정에 의해서 발생되는 에너지는 냉수 공급 탱크 (310)에 부가된 냉수의 부피 변화량 (ΔV)에 가압 펌프 (400)에 의해서 가해진 압력 (P)을 곱한 값이 될 것이다.
도 3에는 본 발명의 다른 구현예에 따른 장치에 대한 개략적인 구성도가 도시되어 있으며, 도 3을 참조하면, 온수 공급 탱크 (320)로부터 발생된 증기에 의해서 냉수 공급 탱크 (310)에 더해진 압력을 효과적으로 회수하기 위해서 별도의 압력 교환기 (700)가 더 설치되어 있다. 즉, 냉수 공급 탱크 (310)로부터 유출되는 처리수 중 일부는 압력 교환기 (700)로 공급됨으로써 상기 가압 펌프 (400)에 의해 공급되는 압력을 보충하게 된다. 이러한 형태의 장치는 특히 발전소 또는 공장 등 에서 발생되는 폐열을 이용하여 전력을 생산할 때 유용할 수 있다.
도 4에는 본 발명의 또 다른 구현예에 따른 장치에 대한 개략적인 구성도가 도시되어 있으며, 도 4를 참조하면, 온수 공급 탱크 (320)로부터 유래된 열을 효과적으로 회수하기 위해서 별도의 열 교환기 (800)가 더 설치되어 있다. 즉, 냉수 공급 탱크 (310)로부터 유출되는 처리수 중 일부는 열 교환기 (800)를 거쳐서 다시 모듈 (300)로 재공급된다. 이러한 형태의 장치는 특히 해수를 이용하여 담수 생산 및 전기 에너지 생산을 동시에 수행하고자 하는 경우에 유용할 수 있다.
본 발명에 있어서, 상기 가압 펌프 (400)에 의해서 인가될 수 있는 최대 압력은 하기 수학식 1에 의해서 결정될 수 있는데:

상기 식에서, 각각 ΔP는 투과압력을, γ는 상기 분리막 (600)에 형성된 기공의 직경을, θ는 상기 분리막 (600)과 물과의 접촉각을, σ는 상기 분리막 (600)의 표면장력을, Θ는 상기 분리막 (600)에 형성된 기공에 대한 기하학적 인자를 나타내며, 실린더 형태일 경우 1의 값을 갖는다.
상기 수학식 1로부터 알 수 있는 바와 같이, 본 발명에 따른 장치에 있어서 액체가 분리막 (600)을 투과하는 압력 (P)과, 분리막 (600)의 물리적 특성, 예를 들어, 분리막 (600)에 형성된 기공의 직경 (γ), 분리막 (600)과 물과의 접촉각 (θ), 분리막 (600)의 표면장력 (σ) 및 분리막 (600)에 형성된 기공의 기하학적 형태 (Θ)는 서로 밀접한 관련을 갖는다. 또한 분리막 (600)을 투과하는 압력 (P)이 결정되면 상기 가압 펌프 (400)에 의해 인가할 수 있는 최대 압력이 결정된다.
따라서, 가압 펌프 (400)에 의해 인가되는 압력이 결정 되면 액체가 분리막(600)을 투과하는 압력 (P)이 결정되고, 이에 맞는 분리막 (600)의 물리적 특성이 결정되고, 반대로 분리막 (600)의 물리적 특성이 결정되면 이에 맞는 분리막 투과 압력을 결정할 수 있게 된다.
예를 들어, 도 5 및 도 6에는, 각각 분리막 (600)의 기공이 투과유량에 미치는 영향을 나타낸 그래프 및 분리막 (600)의 기공이 장치의 압력 제한 조건에 미치는 영향을 나타낸 그래프를 도시하였다. 도 5 및 도 6을 참조하면, 분리막 (600)의 기공이 커질수록 투과유량이 증가하지만, 제한 압력이 낮아지게 된다는 것을 알수 있다.
이하, 본 발명을 하기 실시예를 통하여 더욱 구체적으로 설명하기로 하되, 하기 실시예는 본 발명의 이해를 돕기 위한 것일 뿐, 본 발명의 범위를 제한하는 것으로 해석되어서는 아니될 것이다.
실시예
도 4에 도시된 바와 같은 발전 겸용 정수화 장치를 제작하였다. 폐수로는 65℃의 온도를 갖는 공장 폐수를 사용하였으며, 장치를 정상 상태에 도달하도록 10 시간 이상 가동시킨 경우, 도 7에 도시된 각 지점들에서 측정된 흐름 속도 (flow rate), 압력, 온도, 및 질량비 (mass ratio)를 하기 표 1에 나타내었다. 분리막 모듈 내에 배치되는 분리막으로는 기공도 0.75, 비틀림도 (totuosity) 1.5, 패킹 밀도 0.65, 기공 크기 0.08e-6 m, 두께 60e-6 m의 폴리테트라플루오로에틸렌 (PTFE) 재질의 분리막을 사용하였다. 운전 조건은 투과 속도 0.109 m/s, 투과 온도 25℃, 투과 압력 1,000 kPa, 유입수 속도 0.115 m/s, 유입수 온도 60℃였다.

상기 실시예와 동일한 장치 및 조건에서 가동하되, 터빈을 구비하지 않은 장치, 즉 전기 생산 없이 공정을 진행하였으며, 그 결과를 하기 표 2에 나타내었다.

상기 결과로부터 알 수 있는 바와 같이, 본 발명에 따른 장치는 양질의 물을 공급함과 동시에 전기 에너지 역시 생산가능하다.
Claims (5)
- 막 증류 분리막을 사이에 두고 배치된 온수 공급 탱크 및 냉수 공급 탱크를 포함하는 막 증류 분리막 모듈;가압 펌프에 의한 압력 인가 방식에 의해서 상기 냉수 공급 탱크로 냉수를 공급하는 냉수 공급 라인;상기 온수 공급 탱크로 온수를 공급하는 온수 공급 라인; 및상기 냉수 공급 탱크로부터 유출된 처리수에 의해서 터빈을 회전시킴으로써 전기 에너지를 생산하는 발전기를 포함하는 압력지연식 막증류를 이용한 발전 겸용 정수화 장치.
- 제1항에 있어서, 상기 처리수 중 일부는 압력 교환기로 공급됨으로써 상기 가압 펌프에 의해 공급되는 압력을 보충하는 것을 특징으로 하는 압력지연식 막증류를 이용한 발전 겸용 정수화 장치.
- 제1항에 있어서, 상기 처리수 중 일부는 열 교환기로 공급됨으로써 상기 온수 공급 라인에 공급되는 열을 보충하는 것을 특징으로 하는 압력지연식 막증류를 이용한 발전 겸용 정수화 장치.
- 제1항에 있어서, 상기 분리막은 소수성의 다공성 분리막인 것을 특징으로 하는 압력지연식 막증류를 이용한 발전 겸용 정수화 장치.
