Abstract

A pressurised fluid cylinder (1) having a shut off valve. The shut off valve comprises a valve body which is screwed into the cylinder about a main axis (x) and a linearly moveable valve element (6). A lever (30) is coupled to a rotatable shaft to rotate about a pivot axis to cause linear movement of the valve element. A first frangible element (40) retains the shaft in place and fails if a force above a first predetermined threshold, which is less than the force required to unscrew the body, is applied to the shaft about the main axis in a direction opposite to the direction in which the valve body is screwed into the cylinder, whereby failing of the first frangible element allows the shaft and lever to rotate about the main axis independently of the valve body.
