Abstract

The invention relates to a method for producing a piston ring, comprising the following steps: providing a main body made of an iron-based alloy; depositing a coating on the running surface side of the main body; and producing a structure in the coating, wherein the structure comprises at least one first row of recesses, which are distributed in a periodic pattern in the circumferential direction, and at least one second row of recesses, which are distributed in a periodic pattern in the circumferential direction, wherein the pattern of the second recesses corresponds to the pattern of the first recesses shifted by a length between 0.25 and 0.75 periods.
