Definitions
- the present invention relates to a pH indicating material and a health indicating cat litter capable of indicating whether a urine value of a mammalian pet (especially a cat) is within a normal range and a preparation method thereof.
- the normal urine of cats is weakly acidic, with a pH between 5.5 and 7.0.
- the pH of the urine of many cats with disease shifts from the normal range to acidic or alkaline.
- Cat urine The common cause of abnormal pH is cat urinary tract disease or cat urinary system syndrome.
- Urine with a high pH tends to cause the formation of magnesium crystals, and urine with a low pH tends to cause the formation of calcium crystals. Therefore, the cat's health can be predicted by examining the pH of the cat's urine so that the pet owner can anticipate certain diseases of the cat.
- U.S. Patent No. 6,162,646 provides a basic litter material (e.g., bentonite) to which a pH indicator material based on a polymer foam (especially polyurethane foam) is added for the detection of acidic or alkaline cat urine.
- a pH indicator material based on a polymer foam (especially polyurethane foam)
- European Patent EP0569232 discloses a cat litter having a pH indicating function, which is added to a bentonite material by a non-absorbent calcium carbonate marble piece, a granite piece or a water-insoluble polymer material (for example, high-crossing) Sodium polyacrylate)
- a pH indicating material in which a pH-indicating dye is bonded to a matrix material using a water-soluble polymer.
- the patent specifically states that the matrix material is preferably a non-absorbent, reflective inert carrier such that the pH indicator dye can be readily encapsulated by the water soluble polymer and retained in the inert carrier (matrix) material.
- the matrix material is preferably a non-absorbent, reflective inert carrier such that the pH indicator dye can be readily encapsulated by the water soluble polymer and retained in the inert carrier (matrix) material.
- the basic cat litter selected in the above two patents is bentonite, and the substrate of the pH indicating material is made of plastic foam, highly crosslinked sodium polyacrylate polymer material or marble or granite flakes. Swelling
- the disadvantage of soil is that the urine will stick to the cat after it is wet, and the bentonite will have ion exchange with the urine, which may affect the accuracy of the pH indication.
- the polymer material itself has the function of adsorbing cat urine, since it is opaque, the water-soluble polymer and/or the water-soluble pH indicating dye enters the inside of the matrix material and causes waste.
- the pH indicating materials disclosed in the above two patents differ from the basic litter materials in terms of density, which may result in uneven distribution of the pH indicating material in the litter, and also affect the color development and color change effect of the cat litter as a whole. - the time of the silica gel is not critical and can be carried out from a few minutes to a few hours by simply dipping the water soluble polymer into a portion of the silica gel.
- This preparation method has the effect of allowing the pH indicator to enter the internal pores of the carrier silica less, which can increase the sensitivity of the pH indicator material to color development when it encounters pet excrement.
- the health indicator silica gel litter of the present invention overcomes the deficiency of the existing pH indicating cat litter, and the carrier of the pH indicating material and the basic litter are all made of the same material, silica gel, to make the dispersion of the two more uniform. Moreover, because of the chemical stability of silica gel, it does not have the significant ion exchange properties like bentonite, so it does not interfere with the pH of cat urine and improves the test accuracy.
- the pH indicator material in the silica gel cat litter of the present invention is silica gel loaded with a water soluble polymer and two pH indicators.
- One of the indicators has a significant color change when detecting a solution having a pH of less than 5.0, and another indicator has a significant color change when detecting a solution having a pH greater than 7.0.
- it is used as a cat litter additive to indicate that cat urine is acidic pH (pH below approximately 5.6), or to indicate cat urinary system syndrome (cat urine pH 7.4 or above).
- the urine when the urine is brought into contact with the pH indicating silicone cat litter of the present invention, it is absorbed by the pH indicating material uniformly dispersed therein, and with the pH supported on the surface thereof and a small portion entering the inside thereof.
- the mixed indicator is contacted so that it indicates the pH of the cat's urine.
- Urine at different pH values will cause the pH indicator material to show a different color.
- the silica gel itself is transparent, even a pH mixing indicator that has entered the silica gel carrier of the pH indicator material does not waste, and It is a change in color that is reflected by the refraction of light.
- the water-soluble polymer in the present invention can uniformly disperse the pH mixing indicator (dye:) in the solution at the time of preparation, on the other hand, a barrier film can be formed after the pH indicating material is dried, which can prevent The pH mixing indicator (dye) diffuses and penetrates into the internal pores of the carrier silica gel, so that most of the pH indicator dyes are supported on the surface of the carrier silica gel, which increases the sensitivity of color development.
- the silica gel litchi containing the pH indicating material of the present invention has significant advantages over the prior art pH indicating cat litter. As described above, since it ensures the consistency of the pH indicating material carrier and the basic litter in the material, the pH indicating material in the litter product is uniformly distributed, and the pH of the cat urine can be sensitively and stably indicated; PH of the present invention
- the indicator material is more obvious in terms of coloration indication, PH ⁇ 5.0 color from light red to bright red, PH between 5.0-7.0 is orange to brownish yellow, PH ⁇ 7.0 is light green to blue-green; the product of the invention has low production cost Non-toxic, non-radioactive, simple and easy to prepare, and beautiful in appearance.
